Tentative interest. I like fantasy, but there are so many different ways it can go, that I don't want to commit 100% to this before I've seen the full details.
The plot sounds fine and intriguing enough, but what I'm really interested in knowing more about is how this would be run, the time-period this would be set in, what posting requirements would be, etc. The more mechanical stuff.
I've been looking at other forums too, for a few months now. This place had a great atmosphere for roleplaying, once, but with the loss of so many people, it's lost the ability to sustain that atmosphere.
That said, if there ever seems to be a revival, I suspect that I'll be back here fairly quickly.
We lost too many people over time without gaining enough committed new people to replace all of them. This has been coming for a long, long time. We've basically got 3, maybe 4 active roleplays left: Abandoned, Casandora, Ulti's, and I'm not sure about Eidikos. Ulti's just can't die, Abandoned and Casandora are both fantasy roleplays, which is what this community loves the most. This community is too small to really support anything else. Not enough people are interested in any of the science fiction, historical fiction, horror, or countless other roleplays that used to be suggested, and I think people have kind of given up on trying to get something started.
I think that one of the keys to the success of these three is the diversity allowed by those settings. Ulti's has almost no limits on anything, and Abandoned allows for a wide range of characters with a variety of backstories. Casandora, on the other hand, is fantasy fare, but again with an extreme variety in character options, and an even larger variety in character power. The worlds aren't too strictly defined that players can't impose whatever they want onto those templates. Since roleplayers here are typically very specific with what interests them enough to join, these roleplays which allow for more diversity can attract a wider range of interests. Casandora and Abandoned may have a more defined plot, but the basic principle exists between all three of them: attracting a wide range of roleplayers by allowing for a great diversity in characters.
Anything which is more specific and requires more consistency fails because it cannot attract enough people for long enough. The community is too small.
And the people who aren't interested in these roleplays of extreme diversity lie here, lurking, waiting for something that appeals to us. I get the impression there are a lot of people lurking here, waiting. And I fear we'll be waiting for a while longer.
Do you have any more details? Would this be open-world or is there a specific plot you have in mind? Sci-fi can entail a large variety of things; which 'sci-fi' setting are we looking at?
Western-suggester on the Index was yours truly, I believe. I'd definitely be down for a pure Western - never done one myself, but I think it could be quite enjoyable. I was worried at the time that no one else would be interested in a Western, but I guess not!
That's good advice; getting players invested is definitely key to encouraging longer posts.
Seems most of here are in consensus that post-length doesn't matter, which makes me wonder why there is such a discrepancy between here and other RP forums, where most creators enforce post-length requirements. Perhaps, since so many of us came here through video games rather than through a desire to write, we see the content as more important than the way in which it is delivered? Or perhaps we're simply not blinded by a belief that good writing ought to be deep and lengthy.
Upon further consideration, I'm no longer as interested as I was after the interest check. I was very enticed by two main factors: the open world, and the prospect playing interesting villains. Both of those are still present, but there are some things which diminish my interest.
Foremost is that all characters must be the same age. I feel as though this has the effect of limitng creativity, and could lead to a plethora of similar characters rather than a diverse cast. I have no problem with playing a twenty year old from time to time, but with this roleplay, I'm not coming up with many ideas.
Additionally, while the open-worldness is still present, I feel as though I misinterpreted it at the beginning for being more open than it was. The obligation of powers, the limitations on character diversity (age and race), and what seems to be a heavy focus on combat diminish what I originally foresaw.
Now, none if that is to say this isn't a roleplay woth great potential - it definitely is. However, it's not the roleplay I anticipated after the interest check, and it is no longer as interesting to me. That's no one's fault, I believe. Interest checks are easy to misinterpret, and I'm prone to anticipate what I really want.
So, good luck, and have fun. I hole this roleplay does well.
Interests: Science Fiction and Fantasy, as well as Dinosaurs and prehistory, generally. Social observations. Science and politics both interest me, as does the art of fiction (film, literature, etc.)
Roleplays: N/A
Preferred Genres/Themes: Open-world, character-focused roleplays. I really want to try a Western, and I haven't been part of a good science fiction for a while. High Fantasy is also good, but it must be of a very particular vein. Mostly open-world.
Preferred Post-Lengths: For others, enough that I have something to respond to. For myself, about two-four paragraphs, except in dialogue situations. Then, maybe a few sentences.
Preferred Activity Levels: Everyone posting about once a day.
I think Dinosaurs would have been a great idea for Minecraft, and probably still are. Congratulations to Jurassicraft for making it onto the main page!

So characters have to be 20 years old?
Also, how does HP work?

Definitely joining this, if all goes well. I love open-world roleplays!
