posted a message on The Risk of Dieing By Digging Directly Down.
A couple things that are probably obvious, but no one has mentioned yet:

    1) digging straight down is completely safe if you stand on an edge that borders two different columns. You have to do twice as much digging, but it's still more efficient than building a stairstep descent.

    2) These tests would be easier if you generated the world in minecraft, then exited, and then opened in mcEdit. You could delete large blocks of the world in such a way as to leave 1x1xN pillars, and then inspect them. Actually, to be completely accurate, leave a 3x3xN pillar, then clone the 1x1xN core, so you can inspect the core and the stuff around the core separately.

posted a message on SLIMES ARE BACK! YAY!
As the person 3 posts above me said, the spawn rate of them is no higher than before. In fact, I saw more posts about finding slimes in the world during the week between Christmas and New Years than I have now.

I know that they are supposed to be somewhat rare, but I'm pretty sure that their current spawn rate is so low due to a bug that Notch still has not found.

Sounds cool! Your avatar hurts my eyes. :sad.gif:

If you have firefox+adblock_plus, then just right click on the image, and choose "block image". If you don't have firefox + adblock_plus, then .... well.... why am I even talking to you?

I do this with a lot of animated avatars. Sure, they can be neat to see once. After that... BLOCKED!

posted a message on Can you make a lava pool thats unlimited?
Yes, infinite lava generators can be made, but only with certain mods installed. Most multiplayer servers have llamacraft bucket fix and hey0 running, and with the correct options selected, that combination can allow infinite lava springs.

The usual water spring method does not work, though. Usually, the method I've used is to make the following design (view is from the top down):

    :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:
    :stone: :stone: [] :stone: :stone:
    :stone: [] :soil: [] :stone:
    :stone: :stone: [] :stone: :stone:
    :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone: :stone:

Then, I place lava on top of the soil, and then remove the soil.

Now, you can pick up the lava again in the bucket, and it will regenerate an infinite number of times.

There are lots of other designs that can work too. Just search for infinite lava spring, and you can find them.

Small stuff for you to add/correct:

Eggs: they now have a purpose: cake. The FAQ says the only purpose is throwing them.

Screenshots: Mention that F1 hides the UI, which is pretty useful when taking a SS using F2.

Getting Lost: Mention that F3 gives current coordinates, unless that is considered cheating

posted a message on Note Block Challenge
    Quote from darklink441 »

I need a third room that determines the song itself. This third room would contain circuitry that wires together the signals from beat and measure indicators in AND gates for every time a certain note is played in the song. Each instance of a note would be triggered by a gate like this:

    play note = (beat == x) AND (measure == y)

So, for every note, you are going to build that logic? If the beat is 2 bits, and the measure number is 4, then that means you have a 6-bit bus running to every single note, and a wire out from each note to note block. That sounds crazy big. You'll be lucky to get 10 notes to play per minute, given the delays.

If it were me, I would use the standard method of one enormous chain of delay circuits, but at each one, it would have access to write to a 5 bit bus, which would go back to the sound room. From there, I would decode which note to play.

I'm not really sure my method is any better. Both sound pretty hard, and probably would not be scalable for a large song.

I'm interested to see who can complete this challenge. I'm hoping someone comes up with even a better solution.

posted a message on The creative thread needs to die.
This forum was completely filled with posts about cheap medications earlier today also.

I'm guessing that either the mods are taking a day off (celebrating MLK Jr.?), or some spam bot finally found a way past the entrance captcha.

Anyway, instead of posting about the lack of moderators, just report the posts. They'll be handled eventually.

p.s. your title says "thread". I think you mean "forum"

p.p.s. judging by the quality of posts everywhere today, I'm leaning towards the moderator holiday theory. There's an unusually high concentration of idiots in here today.

    They are?! :ohmy.gif:

By what it says here:http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Slime but i have not seen any yet. ):

I followed your link. It clearly says:
In the Coequest livestream, Notch confirmed that slimes are back in the game. However, they are extremely rare. He will make them more common in a future update.

I've seen a number of threads saying that slimes are back. That number of threads is roughly the same number that there always is after an update (ie. there is always a few people who post wrong information, either because they are trolling for replies or they are genuinely confused.)

The sentence in minecraftwiki is worded gingerly. Instead of saying flat out that "Notch is wrong", they gave him a bit of leeway.

I've read many threads on slimes, and no one has ever given a explanation on how to find them, at least not one that is repeatable. It's kind of like assuming that E.T. life is the cause of all UFOs. There isn't any proof that aliens aren't visiting our planet, and there are plenty of people who claim to have evidence, but no one who argues for extra terrestrial life has ever been able to produce a reliable way to prove their existence (ie. a radio frequency that is broadcasting from space, etc.)

p.s. please mention slimes in your thread title, so that people can know right away that they can ignore this thread.

Been up the whole night just to make this, .

Wow, really nice? How did you get the 32nd notes? Did you do the east-west / north-south trick to get delays of an odd number of ticks?

I was trying to do that, but it didn't seem to work.

    EDIT:

My original post said that he shouldn't have made a new thread for this, and that the title just caused confusion. There's no reason to repeat this any more. "Gmer_freak" already knows this, and has confirmed that he was trying to cause trouble (see below) when he made this thread.

Yes, I'm being a rager/retard/asshole but I'm really just lashing out today about all of this today and today only.

I don't really care that you are committing reportable offenses today only. Reportable offenses are always bad, no matter whether they are habitual or one-time-type-things.

To everyone else who keeps feeding this troll, stop. Instead of posting again, just report the original post. It will be better for all of us.

Sheep of all colors will now spawn (I have seen gray, black, and white so far)

I've also seen light gray. I don't think any other colors spawn though (never seen lime or orange, unless I made them that way)

I'm currently carving out a marine research center on my world, i'm going to be finding out the conditions for squid spawns, and then whatever else i feel like researching lol.

Once I find out, I'll let you know :wink.gif:

Edit: How do I scale the picture without reuploading it?

    Change img to simg.

Nice find with the ladder. It's more expensive than a full block, but may be aesthetically better for some buildings.
