posted a message on Dressers and other household items for vanilla Minecraft!

Uh wow, we just had a suggestion exactly like this... It's official, nobody ever searches.

Even if it's just for decoration, I can't see a need for any of that stuff. And come on man, "Texas Toast" in Minecraft? Really..? Those food ideas are goofy and not very fitting.

what if you get an idea and think "hmmmm that wouldn't look bad if there were a tv here, a mailbox there, if it had a shower, then we've got stairs, etc." It's not taking away from the game at all. It's just adding to it

This is pretty much "projecting suggesting". You're talking about this stuff like we're some hive-mind and you're the center of it. I would honestly slap Mojang in the face if they added TV's and Computers. That's like making a successful midieval-themed RPG game, and then adding eBay and guns to it 3 years later. You're ruining what the game's about. Just because you like something doesn't mean it should be farted into the game.

Literally the entire reason I made the post was so it could be used for redstoning, not for cheating your way through the game. It'removing blocks that are placed by machines to activate something else, harvesting in farms, traps, etc. Use your imagination.

Yes, yes, I'll totally use my imagination. Promise. But yeah, can you give me like a specific direct example? All you gave me was a general list.

I think that we shouldn't be so harsh on vague threads. I don't think we should use the "ignore" tactic on them either.

We can't use the ignore tactic because... it never works. You can't convince an entire forum to do that, and ignoring just adds strange confusion, not solutions.

My favorite way to deal with a vague thread is asking questions that prompt the author to answer with thought out, detailed responses. It's always better to help and nurture new users than to just use negative reinforcement.

This is true, but it's still the author's job to give us enough to go on from the start. If we have to keep asking for details, the thread becomes derailed into a hot, tangled mess.

Besides, if there's enough information for me to ask some decent questions, I think that counts as discussion for me. And as for mods dealing with it, I don't think there should be any rules or specific criteria that would make a thread "vague", because we have competent mods and it's best to just leave it to their judgement. We don't want to become restricted and held down by petty things like making legitimate attempts at suggestions shot down.

People have different versions of vague, but if a thread has no discussion value, what's the point of the thread. I mean, I've seen some undetailed/short threads that turned out to be excellent ones. Sometimes you're able to get the info in a small number of lines, but sadly people think that ANY idea can have that.

"um hi this is my first idea don't hate so I suggest some new cats?"
Okay, cool. Cats. Awesome. What about them? What kind? Do they attack? Are they still ocelots? Us readers are just sucked into a nonsense thread that the OP either runs away from or gets all fussy and blames the forum.

And I don't think much needs to be said about it in the guide; it says everything that should go into a suggestion, it doesn't need to say that it's mandatory to follow any of the suggestions. Just saying something like, "When in doubt, the more information in a suggestion, the better" would suffice in my opinion.

It would be pretty dumb to not mention that in the guide? What's the point of not having it there? It tells people the truth about detail, what we want to read while keeping it interesting.

The game shouldn't turn into some weird modern sims game. In a game about, as the previous posters have mentioned, imagination and building, why do we need toilets and TV's so bad? Please split up that first part into some paragraphs.

posted a message on New Food! Cheese, Grilled Cheese, Tomatoes, and Lettuce! Salad too! Sandwich also!

If no-supports is something you're afraid of, do some searching... I can't say there's anything wrong with the simple foods such as cheese, tomatoes and lettuce since it's just a few sprites (though they're not needed). But the other stuff like grilled cheese and sandwiches are pointless and little childish, sorry to say.

And how do you know it's a "boring texture alteration" I have not posted a picture yet. And I do not want your extremely minimal support.

Here's a small lesson about these forums: You don't get to choose what kind of support you get. It doesn't matter if you posted a picture or not, any kind of texture change to glass wouldn't be worth a vanilla change.

I appreciate the effort, and I'll say it's pretty elaborate on how to get to this dimension. Though the mobs seem a little cheap as they sound like copies of existing mobs.

posted a message on Redstone Activated Block: Breaker
    Quote from laxbroben94»

The whole point of making the Breaker not be able to break blocks farther than five blocks away is to make self-mining machines un-makable without having to move it every five blocks. At that rate, it would just be faster to mine yourself, and use less resources. This could easily make new things (can't think of any off the top of my head, but I had a few, I'll edit this when I remember them)

If we can mine stuff ourselves faster, why do we need this? I really would like to see some example where this breaker is needed.

posted a message on Windows (with the wooden frames)

It'd be interesting to see a 3D version of a window with frames rather than a boring texture alteration. Though even then, it's a very small detail that probably doesn't warrant that much of a new add. Extremely minimal support.
