If you have a suggestion for how to make this idea better, rather than being outright opposed to it, I am all ears. But you're acting as though you're speaking to Mojang and as if this is something that is officially being added to the game. I'm not Mojang and this is in the suggestion board.

If the core idea is something that doesn't work, it's not something that can be "fixed" or "made better". If thirst is something I outright don't want, then simply changing the mechanics isn't gonna accomplish anything. This isn't me trying to be rude, this is just a headache mechanic that digs into gameplay rather than help it.

People were BEGGING for horses, and once they were added everyone was really excited. But how often do we actually use horses to travel? Going through deserts is a death-trap, going through forests is nearly impossible, bringing them in water is super-slow and requires a lead IF you can find a swamp, can't go over mountains for fear of fall damage... etc. etc. etc. It's a feature that qualifies as annoying, and could be completely removed from the game and everyone would be able to survive without them.

Before horses were added, I always opposed the idea because we already had methods of travel. Though horses were made original enough to be considered unique to other passive mobs and are pretty helpful. But note that horses are much different than thirst because they have no way of hindering the game. They don't need to be monitored endlessly without hope of rest.

The 'pets' people want are from a lot of users here who just want "more more more" instead of understanding that adding the same thing but just as different animals are boring and unoriginal.

The difference between the horse mob and my suggestion is that the horse could be removed and have no effect on gameplay. But if you add in the thirst meter and all its features, play with it for a while, then completely remove it, you'll end up noticing a difference in gameplay, and definitely a negative one.

I'm sorry but this comparison doesn't work. I wouldn't care much personally if horses were removed, but they're more positive than negative. They can also be unused and just left to wander the world if you don't care for them. Thirst however is just... there. And it doesn't go away. Making it an option doesn't save the idea because it doesn't need to be added at all. I can't for the life of me see the negativity in adding thirst then removing it. Again, why even add it all? The only way thirst could work is if it had no drawbacks and only positives if it were filled. But even then, gameplay is just fine without it. People nowadays are still complaining about hunger.

posted a message on Stackable potion(With cooldown)

There's a reason why potions don't stack. It's not a programming accident. Just one potion can turn the tide of any situation you're in, so walking around with 16 Strength II potions in just one inventory slot turns you into an unbalanced blocky hulk.

    CON:
I can't think up anything for this list, let me know if you got idea for this list

Overpowered. Tweaking cooldowns and such doesn't really balance the idea that much.

That being said, I know there are many gamers who love having multiple meters to concentrate on across a variety of games, as well as enjoy farming and resource gathering. And some gamers don't like that at all, which is totally cool. Kind of like the auto-jump, I think if the thirst meter could be an optional feature with the player having the power to disable it, that would "please" everyone. I personally hate the auto-jump because I think it's an accident waiting to happen, but I know other players really love it.

Now you're falling back on the classic "it'll be an option so it'll be fine" line. Another line of thinking that just doesn't work. If something is balanced and not annoying, it doesn't need to be an option at all. A ton of people here use the option thing as an escape tunnel for people who don't like the idea. The optional thing isn't a "hotfix" for an idea, because it doesn't change if it's bad or not. If an idea is bad, it's just bad and it being an option will not save it.

Auto-jump and thirst don't compare very well. I don't how many players you know that have openly said that "thirst would be awesome" but every thirst thread I've seen here has gone unsupported and not well liked at all. And for good reason. Options should be left to control/graphic/etc settings, and not entire game mechanics.

A lot of people want Herobrine in the game. A lot of people want guns. A lot of people want 7 more types of pointless ore. Just because it's 'wanted' doesn't mean an idea is passable. I don't see thirst being very wanted.

This is more plausible than all the weird graphics stuff... Other things giving you the Wither effect is uncreative and cheap. It should just stick with the Wither itself rather than being copy-pasted to a bunch of other stuff.

I would have said living pigmen as opposed to villagers

The whole pigmen thing is so old that it's old. I'd want something more original. Maybe even something from this thread. I don't know if the Nether is suited for intelligent, well-behaved traders being in a boiling-hot hostile hell.

And, the sea monster would at least be as strong as the Ender Dragon. With health that would be half the dragon's full health. At least that's what I think, and I have no clue what it would drop.

    -___-

You should know what your own idea has for drops. You probably should have worked this all out before you posted it.

    Quote from pokmon987»

Bats currently do nothing really, they just fly around, mostly in caves, but elsewhere too.

That's the entire point. They're an atmosphere mob. They help you to find caves.

A bat wing, which when put into a brewing stand with a simple water bottle, made something like the awkward potions and mundane potions, let's just name it, light potion, as in weight, which wouldn't do anything. Shulkers would drop a new item called levitation dust, or something else, and when paired with the light potion would make a Potion of Flight. The duration of the potion is suggestive, you guys can see how long you would like it to be, but it would allow you to fly like you would in creative mode.

You suggested two usually-always rejected ideas here. Giving bats drops and having flight in survival. Flying in survival is just bursting with non-balance. It makes travel too easy and it makes the elytra near useless. No flying in survival please.

Nopety nope. Wither Skulls are not meant to be easy to get in the slightest. Would make summoning the Wither stupid easy...

posted a message on Minecraft 2, Part 2: The Graphics
    Quote from jdc997»

Look, as this game doesn't exist, we don't know how an endeavor will end up. It might bomb, or it might completely supersede the original. However, we don't have any solid evidence, so could we please move on from the theoretical and just focus on the content of the suggestions?

The content of the suggestion is still some new sequel, so there's not much to move on from.

Well, it's a good thing that I'm planning on suggesting more than just a few new things. Besides, like I said before, they'd hire a new team for this, so it's not like it would be doubling the workload. Yeah, there would be resources spent, but it's not that hard to make a game like Minecraft.

Do you happen to know the amount of work a game like this takes? Especially one that's meant to be better? New team or not, is it actually worth the time? I'm just really having trouble with how you would want me to support this. You think I'm just not liking this because I see "Minecraft 2" and decided to 'be a hater' but a new engine and graphics with a bit of steroid injections won't sell me on a sequel to a sandbox game with no lore or story.

You made those comparisons? Have you secretly been Theriasis this whole time? That would explain a few things...

Didn't I make both these comparisons in your first thread? Both accounts would be banned years ago if either of us pulled that sockpuppet crap. I do dress like a woman in front of my mirror and pretend to be her though. Don't tell her I said that.

Regardless, there have been many times where I compare two things where I'm comparing the same type of thing, and you dismissed them for being too different. However, not all sequels have to be made to continue something. Take Unreal 4, the only thing it's continuing is new features, but it is technically a sequel to Unreal 3. Minecraft 2 would be in the same boat.

Unreal 3 and 4 might look better, but UT2004 is still the greatest UT out there because they removed a lot of things that made UT2004 one of the funnest games out there. Examples of sequels that could have been equal or better, but weren't. I still think Minecraft is different enough from Unreal for one series to benefit from sequels more than the other...

Well, if you want an idea of what I imagine the graphics to look like, check out Vintage Story. However, if you want more reasons for such a game:

That game doesn't look that far off from Minecraft. In fact, I can't see much of a difference.

It will (hopefully) be fun to play
    It will make Mojang money
It will prove that Mojang can actually make a good game if they put their mind to it

These are some rather generic reasons. Mojang would probably be better off making a game that had a different thing going for it - something original than sequeling what's already one of the most popular games of all time.

I was thinking about the same thing, and, I agree that it would be a huge overhaul. But I feel like MC vanilla really needs that overhaul.

No, no it doesn't. I'm not even understanding why you threw the word "need" into something like that. The game is perfectly fine without something like this. It's a second bar I have to keep thinking about, making me carry more stuff in my inventory I probably don't want to.

Fresh water is collected from ponds and rivers. Fresh water consumed from a bucket replenishes the entire thirst meter. Fresh water consumed from a glass bottle replenishes 5 thirst icons. A bucket of fresh water causes a poison effect, since in real life, drinking too much water causes water poisoning.

I honestly squinted my eyes in confusion at this part. So I can eat 10 baked potatoes and 3 cooked chicken just fine, but one bucket of water and my stomach is done for.

As il_Vassilon suggested, dehydration reduces regeneration, strength, endurance and speed by 20%.

So worrying about this new headache bar isn't enough. Now it's trolling our abilities and even further punching gameplay in the face. This isn't fun.

The Nether and the climates of overworld biomes will have an effect on thirst: The Nether causes thirst 5% faster than it's regular drain speed when the player is moving around normally (not jumping or sprinting). Temperate climates (forests and taiga) will have no additional effect on thirst. Snow biomes will make the thirst bar drain slower. Desert biomes will make thirst drain 5% faster, and savanna biomes 2% faster.

This dampens the ability to live in biomes we want to live in. Just because it's 5% doesn't mean it doesn't have the potential to be annoying.
