As many of you know, today is Notch's birthday. For whatever reason, the log-in servers that your MC client uses to connect to are down. If you are having problems logging in ("Can't connect to minecraft.net" or "Taking too long to connect") then take a break from Minecraft, the log-in servers will be back up and running momentarily.
EDIT:
In-browser minecraft should still work! If you are having issues, message me.
But before you message me, try to fix the problem with beasteast's method:

To get to your .minecraft folder, open the run or search dialog and enter %appdata%
Your .minecraft folder should be in the app data directory.

Spawns you in a huge ice/pine forest biome. It's almost completely ice with other biomes on the sides, not in the middle of it.
