So, I've seen both sides of the argument where people say that mob/iron grinders/farms are exploits and should be removed from the game. The other argument is that mob farms are balanced in that they require a large sum of resources and some technical expertise to build
Now, I've done my share of grinder-building and obtaining resources the hard way, and I've form the idea that, mob grinders in minecraft are simply minecraft's form of technology.
How? Well, if it isn't obvious, think about real life, with something you're using right now: Your computer. All the materials in nature that were used to build it, were those materials ever intended to be used they way they are? Probably not.
Same way the iron golems and mob spawning was never intended to be controlled so they'd be concentrated to an area where they're killed efficiently and automatically for resources.
A little project I've been working on. It's a particle simulator based on the classic 2D falling sand games, complete with moddability. (if you download it)
As far as I get this, you want to make something like Sensor blocks?
Yes, that looks like a good representation of the idea. If implemented into vanilla MC, there should probably be fewer version though, for simplicity's sake.
So, there isn't any reason you'd ever need to make a wooden sword. Unless...
What if you placed Flint-n-Steel in the crafting table with your wooden sword, and that lit your sword on fire? The durability of the Flint-n-Steel would drop by one, and the now-flaming sword's durability will be constantly lowering. However, if you strike a mob or block with the sword, it will light them on fire.
This gives you an easier way to fight with fire in a battle, since you can't directly light a mob with Flint and Steel.
To balance out the sprinting a bit more. Players wearing heavy armor (such as diamond, gold, and iron) should sprint slower than players wearing no armor at all.
So, with 1.8, you can now view world seeds with the debug view (F3). The problem with this on SMP servers is that you can view SMP world seeds, paste those seeds into an SP world, and now you have an exact copy of that map on your hard-drive.
The exploit? You can now easily use any mapping program to map out diamonds and terrain features, giving you an edge over other players.
How to fix? I suggest Notch add an option for SMP servers to disable seed viewing through the debug view.
Anyways, Build 25 has just been released, and with it, the alpha of the Metagame. Lua-scripted AI has also been implemented, and enemies are pretty damn smart now (the AI can properly snipe, navigate bunkers, etc.)
If any of you are interested in CC mods, there's been an explosion in activity and a lot of top-modders are coming back and preparing to cook up some awesome stuff.
