posted a message on Are Sorting Systems really worth the effort?

I love my sorting systems. I choose items based on the source. One sorts items that come up from my mine. My iron farm only sorts for iron and poppies. The XP/ mob grinder sorts for stackable drops and has a large overflow for non-stackable items.

I haven’t tried the sorting system in the video, but it looks interesting.

Yep, they all lead to the same End world. If you use ChunkBase, you can see where the strongholds are.

posted a message on Hosting a server for my kids?

After opening a Single Player game, you can access the Game Menu and Open to LAN. This will allow anyone on your WiFi to play together.

Many of the Mods, DataPacks, Resource Packs, and Recipes will work in this mode.

When they're ready to go beyond LAN, there are some good YouTube videos about setting up your own. by "The Breakdown" is one I recommend as a starting place.

posted a message on Minecraft handbook or Guide to redstone

Check the copyright date. If it's 2 or more years old, it'll be almost worthless.

Better than books are YouTube videos. Check out Wattles, Avromance, MumboJumbo, and Grian. There are quite a few more, but these are the folks I'm following now. You can also search based on what you're trying to build. Check the posted date and stick with the newer videos.

One friend of mine names all his villagers based on what they trade. The librarian that has Mending books is called Mendersen.

posted a message on How long do you keep your files, and what happens once a new version comes out?

Areas you've explored should stay the way you left them. For instance, if you explored a Tundra in 1.13, that tundra won't have berries in 1.14. The plains north of my island won't have bees when I move to 1.15, but the plains west of my ocean will, since I won't be going there until after rollout.

The main exception is where the seed management engine has had significant changes. This happened between 1.12 and 1.13, causing some worlds to generate strange borders between previously loaded chunks and new chunks.

Use it as a learning experience. Make sure you have automatic backups set up, switch to Spigot or Bukkit, and add CoreProtect.

There are also some great YouTube videos on all aspects of MineCraft, including server management.

posted a message on How do I be OP on ANY minecraft server?

Speaking as a Server and Game Admin, if you want OP, you have to convince a majority of our admins that you deserve the privilege. You do this by actively participating in the world, helping others, and demonstrating proficiency in a skill we need. It takes time, talent, and trust.

Villagers now need a bed and workstation to breed and to trade. There are several good YouTube videos on the new mechanics.

Maybe Mojang can add a “Suicide” difficulty level for you.
