All i have been saying is that the game is not even in beta yet, we can expect things to change much during beta and even before that.

It's crazy people completely ignore issues just because it works for them.

So if you have a problem with minecraft, that has never or will never affect me, i should complain to notch for you?

    Yea Elmac,

I know that nobody listen. They see the game as an inner world completely separated from wour world, and so, are only thinking of solutions IN the game, as if nothing but Minecraft is existing.

They think that if a brightness bar is added to the game, that their own brightness will be "corrupted", I dont know how.

This is only a detail that will change nothing to those with fine brightness and help those who can't ajust the brightness to fit the specs of the game.

Please do not add a brightness or gamma adjustment, my eyes are very sensitive to brightness! Please dont make my eyes hurt!

    /sarcasm.

Of course there can be a gamma adjustment, and there most likely will be.. minecraft is not even in beta yet, be patient.
Most of those who say "There must be a way to adjust the brightness or i will stop paying for games like this" talk as if they believe this is a complete game, and that everything is as it will ever be.

I have to agree. It this to hard work in dark. I don't mind having night, monsters or torches. But it be nice be able see where I'm going. I personal think if notch could tip down a bit. It be nice. Or releases more light items. like lap post. that would cover big area.

He is working on lanterns, it would have been released with the halloween update, but was postponed.

    Why not use both suggestions?

    - A parachute that is easy to make (say cloth and wire), deploys automatically as long as it's in your hotkey bar and you fall for more than say 4 blocks. Will move you vertically down at a safe pace. Player has no 'flying' controls. The item will wear out with use.

    - A glider that is hard to make (say cloth, wire, gold, diamond or redstone). This you will have to deploy like a minecart and allows you to glide down from a cliff (or any other height). Player has control over the direction of flight, but the glider will slowly go down automatically (catch updrafts over lava?). It will also wear out with use.

    silly idea?

I dont think a glider would be made with gold, diamond and redstone. And if diamond is used, i would prefer that it would never wear out with use.

I know :biggrin.gif:, if you don't like night time, and you cant figure out how to pause the game. GO OUTSIDE. You know, that place with the sun? Where it's bright? Outside your room? Yeah, that place. :smile.gif:

I can name several things to do in the outside world.. like sitting on a chair, and thinking if you should build a fence around your house, or mabye if you should get some kind of house animal.

    - Brightness bar
    - Portable torch
    - Own gamma adjustment

    The race is started! lololol

I vote for portable torch, the way i mentioned it as in building it into a helmet or hat.

Yeah, it's too dark, can't see more than 4 or 5 blocks from me in a cave, so I have to continuously put torches. I've been seeing videos, and they can see a creeper coming their way from 20+ blocks D:

That doesnt make any sense... you still view the video on your own monitor. So unless they have hacked the client or something, you should be able to see just as much when you play the game yourself.
Try downloading the exe, and running it in full screen.
Or try resetting your monitors every setting, back to fabric settings.
You could also try lowering the red and blue colors to about 85%, while leaving the green at 100%, might work with red as well.

Yes, same as Norway, where i am from.
I believe Minecraft is based more or less on Sweden, witch will be about the same as Norway and Finland.

Some areas on the world may have better light from the moon at night time, but usually it is rather dark up here in the cold countries in the north of Europe.

    I have an idea..
    :Portabella: = Leather.

    [] :--+: []
    :Portabella: :Portabella: :Portabella:
    :Portabella: [] :Portabella:

    Get it?
Its a leather cap with a top-mounted torch. So you wouldnt have to switch to the torch in your hand every time you need to see.

Of course, the other materials could be used too.. but i feel a leather cap would be enough. In caves, you should just spend your torches.

i too thought the game was too dark, way too dark. But after calibrating my monitor, i feel that night time is just perfect. I am able to collect records and have fun with the quickest form of excavation, and thats enough for me.

Just a bit off topic: What does web developement have to do with monitor optimization?
Not being sarcastic here, i really want to know.

    And back on topic:
Even if you have some expert calibrate your monitor "correctly" you may still have different eyes than him.
No matter how dark or light you make a image, someone will always believe that it is too dark or too bright, even if the colors are "correct".
The eyes are quick to adapt to brightness, but very slow to adapt to darkness, very few games use this, HL2 started using it with the lost coast HDR demo. If we want realistic night time light, we may as well ask for the transition as well. just adding a short delay at night time or when you walk into dark rooms before you can see things in the dark will be enough for that. The eyes adapt to brightness in 20 seconds, and darkness in 20 minutes i am told. This may or may not be correct, but i believe a delay at 2 seconds for brightness, and mabye 10 seconds for darkness would be enough. You can hunt in the night or in caves without light sources, but you also risk them spawning behind you, and you cant stop them spawning unless you place torches or lanterns, witch will in turn ruin your night sight temporarily.

The limited torch lifetime will not destroy the torch, you can reignite them with the flint and steel, so how should it work when you reach the end of the torch lifetime when holding it in your hand?
