So what about waterslides then? Everyone is talking about these as a means of travel. I built a pretty big waterslide on my home world, and now my boat either sinks or breaks in the middle of the water when I try to go up the water, when I climb up to the top and start from there, my boat falls so far it either breaks and kills me or sinks when it hits the water below.
Another thing, I never thought of boats rising in water as a glitch. There are woods that are less dense than water, and would float even when submerged in water. Yes it is unrealistic that boats float up a waterfall. But they do it in Minecraft, Glitch or reliable behavior? You can stack sand in a 1x1 tower 128 meters into the sky and it doesn't fall into a cone shape. Glitch or reliable behavior? Falling over 100 meters into 3 meters deep of water and not getting hurt, glitch or reliable behavior? Any glitch so far that had a use besides making the game easier was at least replaced before or when they removed it such as minecart boosters or putting a ladder every other block.
If you're going for realism, I would suggest that Notch should bring boat elevators back until we have an alternative such as inflatable boats, or maybe even a submarine? (Empty the ballast and you would shoot to the surface. Happens in real life too. Maybe isn't too good for the passengers if you do it too far below the surface, but it works.)
