TheMasterCaver posted a message on 1.13 update uselessPosted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsRespiration and Water Breathing are supposed to reduce underwater fog (example); if they are no longer working it has to be a bug (a quick look at the bug tracker shows no relevant issues). What is your render distance? That directly affects the closeness of fog, including underwater. Also, if you used Optifine in 1.12.2 it has a Clear Water setting which reduces underwater fog and well as reduces the light opacity of water (I've played with this for so long it is "normal" for me and vanilla water looks way too opaque and dark).

fishg posted a message on Why did people vote for the Phantom? It's a useless addition to the game most players won't even encounter.Posted in: Recent Updates and SnapshotsPhantoms clearly resemble birds, and they have a striking similarity to manta rays. Both these perfect species are being hunted down by poachers. We can't teach kids that killing creatures is ok. As a matter of fact adding Phantoms to the game would be animal cruelty.

Notch had it right!
Want to stand toe to toe and beat the snot out of someone/something, there are tons of games that allow or are based on that philosophy.
If you really want to see combat join the Army... You can try to save the life of your friend who just triggered an IED.
Join the Air Force and mourn the loss of a neighbor/friend that just created a huge smoking hole.
Become a member of the Navy sleeping below decks when some errant ship runs into yours and you drown.
Talk to a family displaying a gold star due to death of a family member... I'll wager they aren't keen on combat either!
Combat is not a game... lives are wasted because some Commander (or President) wants to make a name for himself.
I played this reality for 20 plus years. I don't want to replay/relive it in a game named MineCraft. I would not have purchased the game had it been named CombatCraft. I'll wager there are a ton of veterans that feel as I do too.
I do not want to force you to not play at combat no matter how foolish I think it is... Please do try to force me to play your game; use a Mod and we can both play our game as we feel it should be!
Still no support!
I don't like being rude to people online- it's good to carry yourself as if you're face to face- but I have to pose the question: what are you talking about?
So you're a veteran. I presume from your words you saw things that soured you to combat. Okay. Thank you for your service and what you gave, but that has nothing to do with late medieval/renaissance weapons in Minecraft plus a few new mobs and cool fantasy places to fight in.
I'd totally understand your point if I suggested crafting AK-47s and pipe bombs, blowing limbs off of Illagers, and bleeding mechanics... but there's absolutely none of that.
The farthest this suggestion travels technologically is matchlock firearms and cannons; basically, nothing past the early days of the Age of Discovery. I for one abhor suggestions that cover things like flintlock muskets or Gatling guns; if Christopher Columbus or the Conquistadors couldn't have taken it along, it's not fit for Minecraft combat in my book, unless you have a special reason (e.g. AMPPL50's Guardian's Gaze, because lasers already exist in natural animals in Minecraft).
Violence-wise, I have put out nothing that's any farther than what Minecraft already possesses; it doesn't matter if you're bracing with a Spear or swinging a Hammer, your enemy flashes red, falls sideways, and vanishes in a puff of smoke. That's exactly the same for every single weapon. Your strange spiel about how highly stylized fantasy combat is bad because real combat is traumatic and deadly makes absolutely no sense. It's a little like saying "all liquid drinking is bad because if you drink acid you die".
That, and Notch added survival mode and combat for a reason. If he wanted no combat Minecraft would have never had Survival Test or SMP.
/rant. I'm sorry if you take this as flaming- you can have your own opinion if you want- but some of the things you've said are patently false. If you wish to reply further to this, please do so in messaging, because I wish to keep this thread related to the suggestion itself and not the underlying moral values and intents of Minecraft. -

Gamebuster posted a message on A alternative for vegetarians/vegans playersPosted in: Suggestions
Come on guys, just because he wants to follow his beliefs in the game doesn't mean you have to attack him. You wouldn't harass someone for wearing a skin that reflects their religion.
That being said, the real problem with this is everyone else would be affected. Some things would become pointless because there's an easier way to craft that item you want. It's fine to follow your beliefs, but once it starts interfering with the mainstream it becomes a balancing issue.
But fear not. If I'm not mistaken, 1.13 is adding custom recipes for reasource packs. So you can customize recipes without needing mods or cheats. I bet someone will make a vegetarian pack, or you could make one yourself with the help of YouTube.
It's not attacking, or the posts would have been deleted. It's critique. Just because someone believes something and it may hurt their feelings if a flaw is pointed out doesn't make them immune to critique. Nobody's beliefs are immune to critique. I would provide reasons why, but the topic would stray into PPN&S which is a banned subject here on the forums.
OP has made it clear that the reason for the suggestion was not made as a challenge, but was instead made as a political correctness gesture. Other players have beaten the game in under 10 minutes while only killing one animal. His point is moot. -

TheMasterCaver posted a message on add compressed blocksPosted in: SuggestionsA couple storage blocks that I think would be nice to have are rail blocks and cobweb blocks; my own mods add these and rail blocks are crafted with 9 rails while cobweb blocks are crafted with 4 cobwebs. Rail blocks are simply used as storage blocks (they really help when you can collect 1,000+ rails from mineshafts in a single sitting, and are also useful when laying rail) while I made cobweb blocks "sticky"; that is, if you walk on or into one you'll sink in a bit and behave as if in a cobweb but not sink all the way through, they also negate fall damage. Both of these can be turned back into their respective items (both require Silk Touch to harvest and cobweb blocks also break in water; I did not add a reverse crafting recipe to avoid "contaminating" statistics (mainly rails crafted, as uncrafting an e.g. coal block counts as crafting 9 coal):

Badprenup posted a message on Biome Specific Music.Posted in: Suggestions
I think the song should be allowed to play all the way to the end before another song starts. Otherwise it'd be really jarring. For example if you're listening to a nice song while mining only for it to be cut off by a different song when you unknowingly cross into a desert. Then it'd change again when you turn around a moment later.
Support.
What would be a really cool alternative to this would be to have one really long music track and each biome has a different variation of that track. The tracks are all on the same loop but only one has any audio at any time. Then when you transition to a different biome that track fades out and the appropriate track for that biome fades in. -

ScotsMiser posted a message on A alternative for vegetarians/vegans playersPosted in: Suggestions@ OP: it would be better if you made an actual suggestion for a 'non-animal-leather-equivalent' rather than just wishing for one…
Collect shed snakeskins, maybe?
Also, if you worry about killing animals (including spiders, silverfish, and endermites?), do you extend the same 'courtesy' to hostile mobs like blazes, slimes, ghasts, and magma cubes? These produce blaze rods/slime balls/ghast tears/magma cream which cannot be otherwise obtained.
[One can trade for Ender Pearls… and skeletons, zombies, wither skeletons may not be considered alive to be killed. Also only the wither skull drop is critical.]
It also seems curious that you object to there being no alternative to the slaughter of electronic simula of some animals (cows/horses/donkeys/llamas and rabbits) for leather largely because this makes it difficult to kill another animal (the Ender Dragon).
Come up with an idea for a 'non-animal-leather-equivalent' of sufficient interest/coolness and you'll likely receive support… (The internal logical conflict in your motivation won't matter if you propose something sufficiently fun for people to play with….)

Badprenup posted a message on Water combat improvement - combat shipsPosted in: SuggestionsHow... How big are these? Any of the ships described are usually pretty big but these are made from less material than a normal boat, minus the extra bits. They also seem overly complex in how they work.
I think a simple Boat with Dispenser would be better, or if they wanted longer range combat some kind of Boat with Cannon.

Huh, I actually just used the word "feed" because I couldn't really think of an alternative word for liquids, but I'm okay with feeding animals solid foods too.

Well Fed Buff: I like the idea that both soups and cake get more practical uses. I do think it's a bit odd that a cake, which is pretty unhealthy, would give you this very filling buff, but hey, it's a video game and Gameplay > Realism.
Auto Stacking Bowls: Yes. Not much else to say but yes.
Cauldron Crafting: A use for the cauldron is a yes all the way. Sure, it might require a tile entity, but only as long as the player is cooking, which might only take a few minutes at most. So I'm fine with this as long as the original non-tile entity cauldron block is still kept in the game.
Placeable Bowls: I'm not sure about this one. I don't really feel like it's necessary to allow the player to put their solid food in bowls and then eat it, although on the other hand it might make a good decoration. I do like the idea of using bowls to feed animals, though.
Support.

You monster! Think of the nostalgia!(I'm kidding...)Well... There you go.
Woah! Nice!
Hey, I played the game with KeepInventory on for a long time... You seem to have done a lot better than I do.
I wouldn't say it's that cheaty... I mean, I'm not using the part of the game that people actually refer to as cheats?
Rockets are a lot more temporary though. You can play music discs over and over again once you have them, and banners are decorative blocks just like any other. When you shoot up a rocket, it lasts much shorter than either a music disc or a banner and it's semi-expensive to make.
Gladly. (Well... I suppose the banners are a bit more permanent so I might consider using them if I'm not fond of keeping a chopped-off head around my house for decoration. But there is no way I'm going to even consider using a head in my fireworks...)

Thrilling is a bizarre choice of word here. I wouldn't describe the names on items as being "thrilling" no matter what you put on there.
I would barely notice this change in the game, except for the fact that when I search "block" in the creative inventory, I won't find magma. (A block I rarely use in construction anyway.)
First "thrilling", now "ironic"? Also, how is this "fun"?
I don't know why I'd care about this change in the slightest, except that now I'm eating brains instead of flesh.
Wouldn't it be better to just leave it as "Stone" rather than pointlessly smacking the prefix "Lime-" to it?
If we're going to add different types of stone, we should commit to it. I.E. Biomes that spawn with different kinds of stone underneath rather than the same generic stone with some spots of Granite, Diorite and Andesite. But that's another topic for another suggestion.
(See above)
Because when searching the name of the fish in the creative inventory, I'd much rather type "Halibut", "Cod", "Trout" or "Tuna" rather than just "Fish".
Is there a point to this?
Again, I'd much rather type "Boot" in the creative inventory than "Footguard" (which is also harder to say).
Nope.
No Support.
None of these seem necessary, much less "thrilling". In some cases, this just means I have to type more characters when using the creative inventory searchbar.

I'm a Creationist, do we need to remove the ability for life to spontaneously appear in evolution simulators?
I don't like it when people go around randomly murdering other people, do we need to add a peaceful mode to shooters?
Even in a much less extreme scenario, Rabbits were my favorite animal for the longest time. Should we add an alternative brewing ingredient for the Potion of Luck because I don't want to kill them?
No, no, and no. Considering how ridiculous people can get with their demands, every game, movie, story is going to have something that offends someone. But not only that, when I wrote down my first two examples, I ridiculously asked for the games to have their main focus removed for me. This is (sortof) a similar case.
Even ignoring that, in some cases adding alternatives to killing animals would just remove the balance of the items in general. (Although I suppose this depends on how the alternative is implemented.) Heck, some animals (Pigs) just shouldn't exist in the game if they're not going to be killed, because getting killed is the only purpose they serve in the game.
But on top of all this, is the fact that whilst the validity of evolution is controversial, and the effect of video games on behavior is still brought up for debate*, everyone agrees that we've killed animals for thousands of years. And since that's known history, that's just a fact that people have to live with. Putting butchering animals in a game when it doesn't offend/effect the general majority and when it's a historical truth of life shouldn't be something that's up for philosophical debate.
*Granted, not as much as it used to be, considering that somewhere along the line somebody has said that video games have no effect on human behavior, but I've never actually seen a citation to even an unreliable source somewhere that says this.
Besides the fact that it's easy to pretend that the animals are walking food robots, or just go even further and remember that these sequences of data rendered as models and textures that slightly resemble real life animals animals most definitely do not have souls, consciousness or intelligence (or central nervous systems) any more than a paper drawing that you drew when you were in Kindergarten.

I feel like I'd rather be able to build ships out of blocks, although we don't really have entities like this in Minecraft.
Depending on the size of these things, I might be willing to support, but those crafting recipes are pretty cheap. Maybe there should be a drydock (multi-)block that you can use to craft ships with?
If we add a drydock or ships at all, there needs to be enough customization available to warrant an entire new crafting system. Some ideas that come to mind are:
- Sails that can have Banner patterns on them.
- Multiple types of weapons. (Rams, Dispenser Cannons, possibly TNT Cannons?)
- Different numbers of oars or other forms of propulsion (Firework-based engines?)
- Some amount of mob or item storage for long trips over the ocean. (This would be useful for when you want to transport Villagers and such.)
And just to make the weapons more useful in non-multiplayer situations, zombie or skeleton pirates might be nice...
I think the ideal size of one of these ships is 2x3 blocks at the smallest, and 3x5 at the largest.

What you think of when you hear the word Hydra: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_(genus)
What the rest of us think when we hear the word Hydra: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lernaean_Hydra
(No, I don't speak for most of the community. But I'm sure if I ask some person on the street to describe a Hydra, this is what they'll think of.)
As for the suggestion itself, do each of those duplicate nine hydras spawn hydras when they're hurt, or just the first hydra? Also, why do you have to hit it 10 times with Fire Aspect in order to burn it? And where or how does this thing spawn? This seems like it has to be a boss mob, because I would lock the game on Peaceful if I had to fight this thing constantly just by being in a specific biome.

If Mojang is going to give good reasons why not to add sharks, the least they could do is come up with gameplay reasons why they shouldn't be added. The Parrots and Cookies thing is reasonable, considering if my friend has a parrot and I don't know how to take care of one, and my friend is serving cookies at their house, I might apply Minecraft's logic to that situation.
The shark thing is dumb, because it's unlikely that I'll ever see a shark anywhere in my life except an aquarium. Heck, it's likely that the people with the equipment to go find sharks in the ocean have been trained on how to deal with sharks. Will this game encourage people to kill sharks? Not likely, but even if it does, it's only going to encourage people that already had the intention of killing them anyway.
This game hasn't encouraged me to kill rabbits in real life, a very common animal that I'm likely to find nearby my house. And if I was ever faced with an unowned cow and I had a suitable weapon, unless I'm desperate for food, it's not likely that I'm going to kill and butcher an animal just because a game told me how meat works...
I can think of a few gameplay reasons why I might not want sharks, which are reasons likely to be actual problems. First off, unless they despawn, they add to the hostile mob count, so less Zombies and Skeletons can spawn. (There are some solutions to this, though. They could be made neutral, but unless they have a good use when tamed, I feel like this would make them a bit pointless. Alternatively, they could spawn in only certain locations, like Deep Ocean biomes, but then they'll effect mob spawns when caving.)
The second, less important reason that I can think of is that I kinda want to build underwater without hostile-mob intervention. The ocean isn't really a place where a threat is needed, because if I'm trying to do work underwater, I'm probably going to be too busy to worry about sharks. (Although the new sunken ships might change this...)

I've seen this idea before, but I don't think I've ever seen a less descriptive post title before. It's almost click-baity...
As with other suggestions of this type, this is often shunned for letting players sleep in places that they don't intend to visit again, but I personally think that it wouldn't really be an adventure without a little bit of mob fighting to spice things up...

True, but iron or diamond armor isn't often painted, if only because the paint just wears off when hit with a sword. Whereas with Leather or Cloth, I think the paint or dye can soak into the fabric a lot better than it can soak into metal. And diamond armor isn't often painted... for obvious reasons.
I'll just assume you know what your saying for this sentence.
I kinda feel like this is what Leather Armor is supposed to be, though. Wouldn't it be better to just remove the parts of leather armor that don't get dyed, or better yet, allow them to be dyed a different color?
Wearing a banner over your armor might be an interesting idea...
Sounds a little bit useful. Would this feather be attached to the ear, Indian style, or as a Mohawk, like Roman helmets?
Here's the thing though: If we're trying to suggest ideas for cool clothing items to add to the game, I'd like to see pieces that deviate from the default armor model, similar to the Elytra. Top Hats, Gowns, Caps, Santa Hats, Robes and other pieces of clothing which we can't really properly simulate. Arguably, though, I'd like all of those armor items to have some kind of use. (Although if it's gender-specific clothing like the gown, I'd feel reluctant to take use of it's ability.)
(Also, rather than crafting those items, it might be cool to buy them from Villagers. Maybe a "Seamstress" Villager that you can buy these clothes from? Speaking of Villagers, they should also be able to wear all these items.)
Alternatively, in the past I found a suggestion about changing the model of armor based on the enchantments it has. It might be cool if you could use that for some of these. Either that, or hammer things like Santa Hats or Caps onto your armor. (No, it makes plenty of sense!)
