I'm a bit confused on your chunk loading thing. The idea is that you are moving/mining so fast that the chunks can't keep up with you? That really sounds more like a computer issue than an issue with the enchantment. Such as, what about when you aren't mining? Do the chuncks take a while to load when you are exploring, especially with Speed or using Elytra? Really, I don't get what mining fast has to do with travel. If you are going to a new chunk anyway, that's going to be laggy no matter what if it isn't loaded yet.

Aside from that, how often do people just dig straight on forever? I know a lot of people who, when mining, curve or turn the tunnel when they get too far from where they are going. Mining isn't about travel, unless you are exploring a cave system, or setting up a minecart tunnel from one place to another. Either way, its not an issue with the enchantment if you are lagging.

I like this, simply because you threw in the "takes tons more durability damage" thing, cause that balances it out, along with the fact that its not really for precision work. Full Support!

Silver watched from the roof, curious, as the Elf and the fox-thing-man-something-with-ears raced away from the burned-out building and after the guards. Something about the Elf was intriguing to him, so he followed, silent and swift, over the tile rooftops and stone chimneys.

When he caught up to them again, they were wandering around and talking to the people of a rather burned out section of a village, near one of the city gates. The entire place reminded Silver of the pub, that was now in ashes, and he couldn't help but wonder what exactly had caused it. Of course, the only way to find out would be to get closer.

He slid forward, and reached up into his cloak, gripping the dark orb that hung around his neck. There was enough smoke left over that he wouldn't need the darkness magic right now, but it still comforted him, knowing that he had it. Creeping around the burned-out buildings, using the ash and smoke as cover for his dark cloak, he worked his way closer to the Elf and the fox-man, until he was standing only a few meters away. He caught some words at the tail-end of a sentence, talking about "beasts", and maybe some sort of a dragon?

Elija was rather fascinated by all the stuff Dr. Style was going on about. What did it mean, if their compasses pointed to somewhere? Did those animals really exist? But what if it didn't do anything? What if it exploded?

He'd have to tell his sister all about this later.

Taking a compass, he drew a deep breath. He envisioned his dragon, without wings or horns, but a long, sleek body. Immediately, he felt the creature burst out, and he slithered out into the room, filling up considerably more room than he had a moment ago, coils of scales covering wires and wrapping around the table. A little self conscious about his size, he curled up as best as he could, shoving most of his tail underneath the table.

A flash of red light surprised him, as one of the girls- that one with the British sounding accent- vanished, and was replaced by a flaming, majestic bird. He couldn't help but wonder how far the mythical phoenix powers went for her.

Turning himself back to the compass, he looked at it expectantly... and it was pointing to his right! He could feel his eyes grow wide, and he glanced off in that direction, which of course was only a wall. But maybe it was out there, somewhere?

But glancing down at the compass again... he saw that the needle had shifted. He shook it, and the needle spun lazily around, not pointing at anything in particular. It didn't have a direction, it just happened to look like it had.

Elija felt a rush of disappointment, along with a little relief. It was too bad that there didn't seem to be any of these giant, snaky creatures out there, but maybe that was a good thing...

((About to get intense! This next part will be fun :) ))

Dr. Style grinned at the answers. "Very good!" He reached into the big box he had earlier and pulled something out. "For some reason, all of you have connected with something we didn't think existed. We want to find what it is! Luckily for us, there was a recent breakthrough in locator magic and tech that will let us find what you got your forms from!" He held the object up to the light. It was a compass, a small metal casing with a spinning needle in the center.

"Merady, can you pass those out?" He mumbled, then turned back to them. "When in your creature forms, holding this should point at the creature you got your ability from, wherever it is in the world. So if everyone could line up around the table and grab a compass, we get to try an experiment that has never before been available to us!" The doctor practically squealed with scientific glee. "Whenever you are ready, go ahead and transform when holding your compass."

I'm trying to stay active, but I'm in the middle of a college move. It's a busy time. Also, it'd be helpful if our posts were acknowledged by the NPCs. We had a couple people answer Styles' questions, but it was mostly ignored.

Well, I'm glad people are looking at it at least. Style answered the first one, though I was hoping for more on the second, maybe a second answer, but I suppose one is enough :P

But with a bow, Skullcandy, you have to get the flint and feathers and string as well, plus it takes a little longer to draw back enough. It takes way more materials, enough that no one really uses it for a trap unless its to knock someone in a hole or lava pit from a distance, or they've gotten the bow enchanted with things that make it useful, which requires both experience (and a lot of it, usually), iron for the anvil, and books or more bows so you can get all the enchantments on one bow.

And of course, arrows, enchanted or not, can be completely countered with a shield. Spears are like swords, which last I checked, shields only reduce the damage from them.

And the spears cut through 10% of armor, to boot, which arrows don't do.

There's a simple solution to being trapped at a range: Dig or build with blocks. Yes, the spearman will have a momentary advantage, but that's okay. The sword is generally superior when it comes to fair melee anyways. If a person's taken the time to arrange the arena appropriately, they should have the advantage.

Sorry, didn't see this when it was first made.

Aaanyway, I suppose that will fix it most of the time, I just know a lot of games where you can't break or place blocks because its a map, and there are other games where the mods are contstantly trying to fix broken traps and situations where people stick another player and then hit them from where they can't retaliate. This just seems to enable that.

Maybe its not actually such a huge issue, I just don't like moving in that direction. Even in Singleplayer, this would let you farm more things from a distance without getting close than a sword could, which just seems like one of those things that are just abusing the system. While farming Iron Golems is cool, it just seems wrong.

Dr. Style smiled a little when Merady popped up out of nowhere, scaring half the people in the room. "Thank you, Merady. Here, hold this." He picked up a large box and shoved it in her direction, then turned to everyone else. "This is my new assistant, Merady. As you can see, she likes to use her artifact that she has received for mundane things like traveling from one room to another and surprising people." His smile had sort of a weary look to it.

After a moment, though, he perked back up. "No one knows? Well, why don't I tell you!" He grinned, and clapped his hands together. "You all have a semi-common ability to transform at will into another animal. Man people have this ability, and can transform into bears and snakes and birds and all matter of other creatures."

"But," he said, pressing a button on one of the desks, "There is a little known fact about every one of those people. The animal they can turn into, whether it be bird or bear, fox or hound, originally was connected to an individual, living animal near them. That is why people tend to be an animal that lives in that region. You'll never find someone who can become a polar bear living in the Amazon." He chuckled at that little joke.

"In fact, using some recent locator magic, combined with modern technology, we have been able to seek out these individual animals wherever they might be." He looked around at them again. "Now, with this new information, can any of you tell me just why we are so interesting in what you can turn into?"

It's also worth considering this numbers relative to your opponent. Level 10 dexterity would be good for a marksman archer, but their shots would have less of an effect against a light elemental who could zoom around at a dexterity of 9.

Of course, if you've got two big brutes in an arm wrestle, it'll be a close outcome. It looks like you can go PAST level 10 though, since it seems like you need 25 magic or something to raise the dead...

posted a message on Symphony of Battle! Power in Harmony! [OOC

    Name: Sil

    Age: 17

    Gender: Male

Appearance: Very tall, seven skinny feet high, with long, brown hair that flows a bit past his shoulders and down his back, thin face and skinny fingers. Generally wears a long black coat that flows down to his knees, with lots and lots of pockets. The coat is large enough to mostly conceal his violin, of which he has a special case sewn in the side to protect it.

    Personality: Toooo be RP'd!

Skills: Loves to create models and sculptures. He can walk as he plays his music, and always carries a ball of modeling clay, which always seem to be colder than it should be. (True story, the clay that I work with is generally too cold and stiff for other people to work with well, and when they give it back it’s always warm and extra mushy. I have cold hands.) His constant practice has enabled him to move around fluidly as he plays. He loves to skate and ice-skate, and his custom made shoes actually have small ice-skate blades on the bottom that he can flip out with the touch of a button on his heels... for some reason.

    Preferred Musical Instrument: Violin

Preferred Musical Genre: Epic classical style, music with violins in today's world, music with no words.

Music Persona's Appearance and Name: Sil's Energy creation is a small, bluish ferret, named Silence. Its very sleek, and moves quickly and silently.

Special Music Persona Powers: Silence always emits an aura of cold. Wherever he steps, a layer of very slippery ice forms over the floor. Everything it touches is chilled or frozen, except for Sil himself. Silence can breathe out a mist of ice, which hangs in the air after him and stays, a misty barrier. Anything touching the mist is frozen or deeply chilled.

The ice is non lethal as a freezing agent, so people can thaw from it with no ill effects to their cells. But chunks of ice can still be used as weapons, and staying too cold for too long can still get people sick.

Bio: I always tell it here, I think I’ll tell it in the RP this time instead.

Other: Can't wait to get to the big Staaage!

At the sound of the bell, Dr Style hurried back out through the small door, as if he had just been waiting, waiting there for the magical ding of that bell. He grinned around. "Everyone ready?" His eyes fell on Beatrice, and his already wide smile grew another could inches. "Oh, looks like one more managed to make it! How stupendous!"

He gestured to everyone to follow. "This way, this way." Spinning on one heel, he charged right back through the door.

Elija was the closest, and found himself going through first.

As soon as he walked in, he was almost overwhelmed with the sheer amount of tech in the room. Beeps and whistles and flashing lights came from every corner, and the floor was strewn with cords. The Doctor stepped over the larger bunches, and raised a hand to his mouth. "Merady! Where are you?"

Dr. Style led them to the middle of the room, which was mostly clear, aside from a single table with a number of small devices on it. He halted there, and whirled around to make sure they had all followed. "OK!" He called out. "Who here knows what special abilities you all posses, which is why you were brought here, and," he asked another question, his eye twinkling in a "trick question" kind of way, "Why exactly those abilities are so intriguing to us?"

Looks like we have everyone but Ninty in the lobby. Someone can ring the bell if they want, (probably someone with an outgoing or rebellious personality IC, but you never know.) Hopefully Ninty will hurry.

The doctor will call for his lab assistant in a bit, so she can show up then, ok Naam?
