Alex was awakened for the second time by the sound of a loud thump. He jumped so badly that he fell out of his bunk onto the concrete floor. Pain flashed through his leg, and he barely kept from saying "Ow" and waking the others.
Sunlight was beginning to stream through the windows. Alex guessed that it was probably eight or so in the morning. Clutching his leg, he stood up and began to search for the source of the thump that had wakened him.
Walking out of the sleeping quarters, Alex found himself in the main room. A cursery glance around told him that Xander had not yet returned. His eyes fell what appeared to be a bundle of cloth that had not been there last night.
On closer inspection, Alex discovered it was a young boy, who appeared to be asleep. That is, were it not for the blood pooling around his head.
Alex checked for a pulse, and found it beating strongly. Having no idea what to do now, he decided to see if anyone else knew some medicine. Returning to the sleeping quarters, he decided Nathan would be his best bet. Shaking his shoulder, Alex said, "Wake up, we have a problem!"
Alex realized suddenly how tired he was. Nathan had gone to bed a couple of minutes ago, and Kristen seemed to have fallen asleep on the couch again.
Alex made his way to the sleeping quarters, and sat down on one of the beds. He wanted to think through everything that had happened, but before he knew it, he was waking up in the middle of the night.
Alex sat up, wondering what had wakened him. Looking around the dark room, he saw nothing unusual, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched.
Shrugging it off, Alex lay back down, and soon slipped back into peaceful slumber.
