I suggest making all pistons around the arena, that are activated by throwing something on it. Kudos if you get the reference to a certain incident that happened before the events of the series.

Glowstone Wire
Aesthetic Glowing Wires

Obtain the ability to place glowstone dust! Not only they're great for trails, they actually give out light!

You can configure the color of Glowstone Wire through the Forge interface starting on version 1.0.2.113 via Mods > Glowstone Wire > Config.
Alternatively the configuration file is located at /config/GrygrFlzr_GlowstoneWire.cfg
For 1.6.4 and below, you can also use it to change the block ID. 1.7 no longer requires block ID configurations and will automagically register the block.

Had this world since Alpha, around the original Halloween update. When I found this mountain in Alpha it was had a huge hollow area in the front (Where the bay window/living room is) and a lava fall coming out the top of the mountain next to another big hole before the top of the mountain. (This other hole becoming the bedroom) Round the back, a single block width of water came out the side of the mountain. I had an idea to build a level floor round the front half-way up in the hollow, behind the lava fall, and round the back wanted to build a room directly below the waterfall (Widened over time of course) so that there was no glass needed, a water-window you could see through. And those were my two premises for building there.

Currently I am doing a "Re-generation" improving areas inside and outside my mountain home, open plan living new ideas all the time to improve things. I have had this world just over two years now and never tire of it.

Texture pack = painterly.


So that's my home, there are many, many more pictures but if that seems like a lot, I took a hell of a lot more recently, those are the highlights. Any questions, comments, thoughts or opinions welcome.

Well, those are some of the things we could be saying if colored glass and colored light were added to MC!

[NOTE]Colored light and glass is something I believe all minecrafters should be able to enjoy with each other without the midleman or knowledge of mod installing. So for that reason, this suggestion is directed towards vanilla. We do however welcome mods here since it's said that "Colored light isn't possible." -_^

Color Glass Blocks & Changing The Color of Light


Colored Glass and Colored Light are features I have wanted to see in Minecraft for some time. I wanted to see these features implemented so bad that I have come up with some ways it could be used in the game; it would greatly increase building potential and the ability for a player to customize an atmosphere by modifying the color of light. Based on my knowledge working in the game industry as an indiegame digital artist, I know that the impact something like colored glass and light would have on minecraft would be more important than most people know. In fact, it may even be safe to say that even Mojang underestimates the aesthetic importance of colored light and being able to manipulate it.

Originally, this topic was named as a heavy hearted suggested to Mojang. However, it was innacurate, as was made apparent to me by a poster in here, so I decided to change it.

Right now, Mojang hasn't done a whole lot with Survival mode. Added trading, another mob or two, path finding, sometimes armored mobs? Yeah, but that's about it. The rest are potions, enchantments, redstone uses, etc and those generally aren't used too much for practical use. Potions and enchantments yes, but they don't add to survival itself.

Survival is just too easy. Even on hard mode it's just way too easy to survive, even without an actual house. Mobs are just thrown around like sacks and walking item deposits, and hopefully Mojang will listen to the suggestions in this topic and make survival something worth playing again to try and survive in the harsh and unpredictable world of Minecraft.

I intend to make more topics in order to add different things to Minecraft, but for now I will be focusing on the mobs, since they do need some serious work.

One of the main things would be the Elite difficulty. The current difficulties, Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard would all still be there. Elite would be for the much more talented and skilled of Minecrafters. Those who just can't stand not having a large challenge while they go about their business.



Elaborations/optionals:

Zombies
Easy: Will spawn in packs of 2 to 3 and will move as groups(With path variations as well as timing, so they're not all symmetrical) and swarm the player. Can dig through dirt slowly to get to the player.

Normal: Will spawn in packs of 3 to 5 and will move as a group and swarm the player. Can dig through dirt at half the speed of the player.

Hard: Will spawn in packs of 3 to 7 and will move as a group and attempt to surround the player. Can dig through dirt at three quarters the speed of the player, and break through wooden planks at half the speed of the player.

Elite: Will spawn in packs of 4 to 9 and will move as a group and will surround and pin in the player if possible. Can dig through dirt at half the speed of the player, and break through cobblestone and wooden planks at half the speed of the player. Being bitten has a chance of infecting the player. Upon death while infected, the player will die and their corpse will become a zombie, wearing/using all of their current equipment. New zombie will not despawn.


Zombies will only dig through if they see the player go into a structure or hole, and will only dig for as long as the player is in a certain distance to the zombie. Doors will, of course, always be targeted if a player is seen going through it, but normal blocks will not be targeted once the player is out of range.

Zombies will also be able to break trap doors on all difficulties, as well as be able to pathfind to ladders whether or not they're tracking the player.

Creepers
Easy: Will stalk the player openly and charge them head on. Will stop to charge detonation.

Normal: Will stalk the player and try to find cover whenever the player is looking at them if possible. Will stop charge detonation.

Hard: Will stalk the player and actively go from cover to cover to avoid being seen. Will not stop to charge detonation. Successful detonation will temporarily attract all other mobs to the spot for 30 seconds.

Skeletons
Easy: Will stop to shoot the player from 10 blocks.

Normal: Will stop to shoot the player from 20.

Hard: Will attempt to find high ground to shoot the player from. Will stop to shoot from 30 blocks.

Elite: Will always go for the high ground, whether or not player is within sight. Will attempt to gain the upper hand by alerting all zombies within a 25 block radius to the skeleton and send them towards the player.

Note: Due to the increased range of skeletons and the high accuracy, skeletons will have an "aim sway", which will make them aim slightly farther from the player's center then normal on a specific range. As in, a skeleton firing from 30 blocks on Elite mode won't hit nearly as often as one firing from 10.


Spiders
Easy: Will charge the player and generally stick to the ground unless the player is higher or lower. Will take minor fall damage.

Normal: Will climb along walls to get to the player if possible and leap small gaps. Will not take fall damage.

Hard: Will prioritize moving on walls and ceilings to surprise the player and get the first strike. Will leap decent gaps to get to the player. Will not take fall damage.

Elite: will always prioritize moving on walls and ceilings to surprise the player and get the first strike. Will leap large gaps to get tot he player. Will not take fall damage. Will periodically drop webbing on the ground to slow down the player and little caves with traps while the player is away/not seen by the spider.

Enderman

These are fine for now I think. Suggestions are open!


Slime
Easy: Will hop towards the player and do minor damage

Normal: Will hop towards the player and stick to them for five seconds, slowing them down. Shaking the mouse or rapidly pressing the movement keys will shake them off.

Hard: Will hop towards the player and stick to them for ten seconds, slowing them down and doing minor damage over time. Shaking the mouse or rapidly pressing the movement keys will shake them off.

Elite: will hop towards the player and stick to them for twenty seconds, slowing them down and doing minor damage over time. Shaking the mouse or rapidly pressing the movement keys will shake them off. Max size slimes will stop the player entirely by sticking the player to the side of the slime.

Note: On Normal and Hard difficulties, slimes can only stick to you once every three seconds, letting you get some distance so you're not instantly jumped as soon as you get free. Larger slimes will stick for longer and do more damage. Giant slimes will do medium damage and knock you back five blocks when they hit.



Ghast
Easy: Has 10 hearts of health. Will launch normal fireballs that do moderate damage.

Normal: Has 15 hearts of health. Will launch normal fireballs that do moderate damage.

Hard: Has 20 hearts of health. Will launch fireballs that do high damage and splash damage, as well as creating a flame that can only be put out by the player and water. The flame will not dissipate on it's own.

Elite: Has 30 hearts of health. Will launch fireballs that do high damage and splash damage, as well as create a flame that can only be put out by water. The flame will not dissipate on it's own. Will spread moderately quickly.




All enemy view distances would be increased depending on the player's view distance setting. If you are able to see the Mob, then the Mob can see you. There will be a chance that the mob will not see you, and the "see player chance yes/no" will be re-rolled every few seconds that you're within the Mob's view. Meaning that every 3 seconds you're within a Mob's view, is another chance that you're going to be spotted and it will come after you. To help counter-act this, spawn rates will be drastically dropped in order to keep 284 out of 300 mobs seeing you every time you go on top of a hill. But still, watch your step!

Whenever an arrow is fired at a mob and it hits, the mob will stop all movement and begin to look around for the player who shot it. If the player is seen, the mob will attempt to charge the player, return fire, or go for cover, depending on the mob type. If it is not seen after a full 360 degree turn, the mob will attempt to run away in a random direction.


Door tiers would be added in order to combat Zombies better and make it a little more interactive.

Standard wooden doors would be the starting point for all doors.

Tier one: Wooden door. The base for all doors. Made with wooden planks.

Tier two: Stone door. The upgrade of the wooden door. Create a wooden door, then mix it with smooth stone. Zombies will have a harder time to get through it. Standard door use.

Tier three: Iron door. The upgrade of the stone door. Mix a stone door with iron in order to create it. Impenetrable to zombies. Behaves like the normal iron door.

Tier four: Obsidian door. The upgrade of the iron door. Mix an iron door with obisidian to create it. Impervious to zombies, as well as being blast proof, making it a good creeper defense. Behaves like the iron door.


All creatures and monsters classified as undead will lose the ability to drown. They're undead.



Obviously I would like to suggest more over time. New block types to help combat these new upgrades and keep mobs from your home. Reinforced planks, spikes to be placed on surfaces against spiders? All suggestions welcome. I have tried to make this as fair as possible to players while still adding challenge on higher difficulties and nothing too hard on lower ones, but it's never perfect, and another perspective is another step in getting it as good as it can get! helpful criticism is appreciated.


Pros

Better difficulty variation
Interesting Mobs
Suggests that players use skill instead of click speed
Makes survival useful/challenging
Easy difficulty allows most mobs to be largely unchanged from the current system

Cons

Less simple mobs
More mob difficulty whining (This is gonna happen anyway, as always)
Might break some mods (But this happens every time Minecraft updates as is)

Without the air block, you'd suffocate. Unless you managed to somehow constantly drink fire resist potions and fill your house with lava.

I think it will take a long time to turn survival into something that people really love (I personally love it, but I know alot of people think it's getting dull). In my opinion they need to really diversify mobs, and create new mobs (I mean we only have what, 3 monsters that you commonly see?). I also believe the terrain generator needs a HUGE overhaul. Caves are too clustered and oversaturated, you find an abandoned mineshaft every time you find a cave system, mountains are a little bit too crazy and unrealistic (they just look like giant sponges now), and the game can be buggy as hell sometimes (theyre working on it, which is great)

Basically what I am saying is that terrain generation is way too predictable and there aren't enough enemy mobs. All of this will take alot of time to work on, so I hope in the future the survival aspect of this game will be amazing

Oh yes! You are totally right about that, especially the caves. In 1.7.3 (when I first started, ah the memories) caves were semi-rare. It was an achievement and an exciting thing to find a cave. Now I dread digging anywhere because I'm half-expecting to dig into just another cave or mineshaft or ravine. The things are everywhere, and it's a lot like if you spawn in diamonds- they don't mean as much if there are too many of them (plus making it annoying to mine. It IS MINEcraft, after all).

All I need is a water bucket, some seeds, some dirt, 4 torches, and a 9x3x9 room in the ground and I'll get more wheat than I ever even wanted, literally! It's almost cheap how much you can do with just one water block for irrigation! Bread is too plain though so as soon as I can I start making cookies, pumpkin pies, and finally cakes!

I know cakes aren't the best food source really and the whole placing them down thing is a pain, but c'mon, it's cake! Who wouldn't want to live on cake if they could? The only thing better would be cupcakes and those are basically cake in a better shape anyway!
