Grew tired of hunting for a server meeting these requirements, so I'll just leave this here until someone makes one.
Must Have (Not willing to compromise on these, if it doesn't have all of these I'll just leave the server.)
1. Vanilla (Mods for anti-cheat and anti-grief are fine.)
2. New world on 1.8 (Within a day or two of a new world at most.)
3. 100% legitimately built EVERYTHING, and I mean every single thing.
4. No handed out or spawned resources/tools for any reason. A truly legitimately played server.
5. 18+ community.
6. 24/7 dedicated server
Major bonuses, but not required.
1. Voice communications.
2. Community based.
3. Server located in the US/Canada and with good hardware.
Sorry for all the stringent requirements, but I keep find server after server after server that just doesn't cut it, and I want a permanent server to play on for years, not a weekend.

I'm John, I'm 27 years old, I've been playing minecraft since late alpha, I have a microphone, and am looking for a specific type of server/community to play minecraft with for the long haul. I've tried going on 50+ servers, but none have been any good, or have been shut down rather quickly.
Wow, never thought I'd ever see a server for just older players. Have to say it's about time someone made one. I may not fall into the retirement home category. But older certainly.

What you looking for to do in minecraft: Build well thought out structures, and being able to do it with others is an obvious plus. I don't mind spending weeks or more on a single massive and impressive project.
Likes/dislikes about a server: Love having mature players that I don't have to read, lol, rofl, gtfo, and all that stuff in every single typed message. And even worse in voice chat. And don't even get my started on listening to teens on vent/teamspeak. *Shudders*
Why this server: Only server I've ever seen for older players in minecraft. Little more need be said.
Why do you want to play here: Honestly, it was near the top of the server list. And fit my requirements for being a good looking server. (Mainly the mods used.)
What aspects of minecraft do you enjoy most (PvP,PvE,Building,etc): Building by far. It is after all the main concept of the game.
What methods/materials do you use to make your buildings aesthetically appealing: Since there are so many different texture packs, what is a work of art to one, looks horrible to another. But I find colored wool works best for the finer touches on a project. As for my art style, I find that lighting (windows) in a large interior makes for best effect.
What makes you more suited to this server then the other applicants (this is your chance to distinguish yourself):
Post/link (pics or video) a cool project you have done: (not required, but highly helpful) Sadly all my better works have been on other server that have been there one day, and were gone the next. So pictures are sadly not an option. As for what makes me stand out, nothing in particular, and I'm fine with that.
Where did you hear about OmniCraft: This very post. Just looking for yet another server, as all the ones I join are shut down in under a month.

The Problem:
In the older build (Halloween patch) I could play in long distance view with 40+ fps and average with 120+ fps and everything was wonderful.
Now with the new version I "STILL" get the same fps. But the game stutters horrendously on anything above the "near" view distance. Even though I have 140+ fps. It's basically I move forward 5 feet and the game pauses for a second and warps me forward another 2-3 feet. I have tried everything I can think of, reverting to older drivers (Since we all know ATI drivers "SUCK".) updating directx and java. Nothing works, so I can safely assume that the latest build of Minecraft is just buggy as hell. (As if the missing chunks in MP weren't a strong enough indicator.)
Basically this post is to show there is an issue currently. And also to see if anyone else in my boat has found any sort of short term solution to the issue. (Don't say buy a new card or pc, that's planned in a few months for DNF) As I find the game very unplayable in anything less than average view distance.
I rather enjoyed my time on the server. Made a strip mine with a friend, and was planning to make something massive with the 200 stacks of stone before the server went down.
Pros:
1. Vannila, only had admins handing out water (Which you can't acquire normally). Didn't see any gold/diamond brick palaces like on other crap cheat-enabled servers.
2. Friendly players, didn't run into any griefers in the few hours I played.
3. Not overbuilt.
Cons:
1. Some considerable lag spikes. But I suppose that what the server is down due to the VPN host. Hope it gets fixed soon.
2. Appeared to have been recently hit by some major griefing. Saw plenty of partially destroyed buildings, and perpetually burning wood.
I did find this server better than any others I've found, (And I've tried a LOT of servers.) will definitely return. And if the lag issue is resolved, I'll even donate regularly.
After trying around 40-50 servers. I'm just about at my wits end looking for one that doesn't have something terribly wrong with it in one way or another. So I figure I'd make this post and see any servers out there exist with a decent setup. Otherwise, I'll just have to host my own.

Specs that can at least be considered a modern pc. (Dual core+, 6+ GB of ram, etc.)
Hosts more than 12 players at a time.
Does NOT have a limited borders mod. (I like to explore as much as build.)
I don't have to wait 3 days to a month to get white listed, like 10 or so of the servers I tried took.
Does """"NOT"""" have admins handing out free stuff to "anyone". I'm tired of seeing palaces made of solid diamond/gold blocks that were obviously cheated for. I want a straight, legit server.
And most importantly of all, does not have an overbuilt map yet. (10+ miles of straight cityscape and floating island clusterf**k.) This has been the hardest of all to find.
As far as I can tell, no such servers exist anymore. Guess I arrived too late to enjoy a normal game of minecraft with a normal server. Anyway, as you may guess from my writing, I'm a little ticked off not being able to find a single good server. I just want to make sure I didn't somehow miss one before giving up completely.
