Can you change it to work with any valid vanilla jar file, and not depend on what versions the Mojang launcher thinks are installed? This is a major issue for those of us using Betacraft or PolyMC to avoid migrating to Microshaft accounts.

===FIVE YEARS LATER===
Well, I guess we're not getting that 1.9 update.
EDIT: I'm comparing the last version by Emperor Doom to the last version by Druha, and... what the hell, man? Every replaced texture has been a downgrade. Goofy, twisted animal faces are now boring, lifeless animal faces. Drumsticks, a traditionally cartoony way of representing meat, have been replaced with boring, "realistic" mutton.
Does anyone know where I can get Emperor Doom's last release in 128x resolution?

Only one person so far has voted for "other", so clearly, my poll isn't anywhere near as biased as you like to think.
The Master Caver and I have very different reasons for preferring 1.6.4 terrain over 1.7; personally, I think large landmasses with fractal coastlines separated by even larger oceans are vastly superior to the sort of uniform noise that came both before beta 1.8 and after release 1.6.4. There's a program called "AMIDST" that you should download and play with. It'll show you what I mean.
The uniform noise of beta 1.7.3:
The fractal coastlines of beta 1.8:
The fractal coastlines of release 1.0 through release 1.6.4:
The uniform noise of release 1.7 to the present:
That's easily disprovable by using AMIDST to generate ridiculously large maps (like 200k by 200k)

Well yes, when you take something originally written in Java and rewrite it in a real language like C++, you're going to get much more efficient use of CPU cycles.

I don't have an argument. I had an extremely simple question that everyone understood except you.
It got rid of "real" singleplayer, and replaced it with a system where the game would spin up a multiplayer server that nobody but you could join, and it called that "singleplayer". This was considered a big deal by some people because the multiplayer code had some bugs that "real" singleplayer didn't, and this change introduced those bugs into the singleplayer experience.
I personally don't care but the guys at r/GoldenAgeMinecraft think it's important enough to use it as their cutoff point.

It's a poll, obviously, asking people which version of the game is their favorite. What part of that don't you understand? Do you not know what a poll is? Do you not know that the game has different versions?
No, not even remotely. Specific changes to the game happened in specific versions, not subject to anyone's opinion or interpretation. Like you can't go around claiming that 1.9 was the patch that added pistons to the game. Well you can, but you'd be objectively wrong and an idiot.
Wow, really? Each version is just the previous version, except for all of the changes that make it a different version? That is totally news to me. I think you should write a scientific paper on that profound insight. You could win a Nobel prize for your discovery that differences exist between different versions of things.
Jesus Christ.
That is definitely NOT the question, which you could have figured out for yourself by looking at the poll options.

Which version of Minecraft do you consider to be the best without mods?

All right, I have another idea. Judging by the commit dates, it's quite likely that the plugin's author sent me the wrong commit. Try this one instead:

NVM, current versions of Chestshop all require Vault anyway so Vault is in. And you were right - Chestshop allows the creation of "Admin shops" that can dispense unlimited materials and currency not tied to any OP's inventory or accounts. That eliminates the need for EssentialsX.

I tried both the 1.8 version of this plugin with the 1.8 version of Craftbukkit, and the 1.16.4 version of the plugin with the 1.16.4 version of Craftbukkit; both yielded the same error:
Can you explain WTF is going on here?

Define "veteran". I've been playing since Beta.

What's so special about 1.2.5? "Old" minecraft was Beta 1.7.3 and earlier. Before the dark times. Before the Adventure Update.
