Lightning doesn't catch fire to things. Rain puts it out.
That's how it works, usually. Unless the rain inconveniently stopped the moment the fire started, I don't see where the problem came from. Unless the original poster is hiding something from us...
Also, Mr. O.P., I'd correct the title, getting rid of lighting would ruin the game.
Actually, there are two other possibilities. One, the rain could quickly spread to a sheltered block before the rain can put it out. Two, the lightning hits netherrack, which isn't put out by rain, and will spread fire as usual.
Wood houses? Who in the hell would make a house made out of wood? That's so beta. It's also a waste of wood.
Make your houses out of bricks, cobblestone or dirt. Like a true builder.
Maybe you misunderstand the term "builder" as it applies to Minecraft. In this game, a builder usually wants his stuff to look nice, and the best building blocks (wood, logs and wool) happen to be flammable. Have you even read the thread?
Actually, I think lightning rods should be made out of gold, which is a great conductor of electricity, and attract all lighting it its chunk. Why's that? All you people are pushing reality. In reality, we don't need lightning rods very five meters.
I think that having only 1 per chunk would make them OP.
Also, I guess removing the bottom iron bar and putting in a stone/cobble block would work.
Why's that? Keep in mind that gold is rarer than iron, starting to balance it already. And a chunk isn't really that big, when you think about it. And besides. I'm sure the builders don't want ugly lightning rods littering their structures.

I agree entirely, it adds a new level of difficulty and strategy.
I disagree with this post, and instead agree with this one.

Creepers add challenge to the game. Lightning doesn't. As long as you are smart enough keep your distance from the creeper, or have enough skill to take it down, then your creations are completely safe. However, no matter how skilled or experienced you are at the game, you can't do **** about lightning. So there should either be lightning rods to keep lightning away from your creations, or an option to turn lightning off.
Also, how come you guys were so quick to shoot down meteor and earthwquake suggestions, but whenever someone says anything negative about your OH SO PRECIOUS LIGHTNING, you call them wimpy ***** dumbasses? How are we pussies for not wanting our creations destroyed for no reason?
Lightning adds no strategy or challenge. It just forces us to not build out of wood.
My proposed solution is this.
Rain will now only put mobs and netherrack on fire (and charge creepers), lightning will detonate TNT, and lightning will destroy dropped items.
And to all of you saying that wood looks horrible, or other stuff about aesthetics which involve replacing our beautiful wood and wool, I say to you:
Stuff it. What you think looks bad, another person might like. And vice-versa.
Keep in mind that we can use logs in combination with planks. It looks great!
I wasnt actually serious that he should leave the forums, but it was probably unneeded and only adding fuel to the fire. I didnt intend any meanieness. That is, if by "quite aggressive for you", you were referring to what I said. If not...disregard that :smile.gif:. But yeah, I know what you mean. I dont mind people who disagree with me either as long as their "argument" isnt something like "thats stoopid gtfo!". I should probably ignore those people more often.
I figured you weren't being serious. And I was talking about the post I made being aggressive for me. I'm usually a quite peaceful person.
Thanks :smile.gif:. Yeah I dont understand how people are so opposed to criticism. If nothing were criticized, nothing would improve. Hey Pie, I have a super easy solution for you. Dont like opinions besides your own? Get off the forums.
Agreed. That was actually quite aggressive for me. The one thing I hate the most is a person who is too blind to even recognize that they might just have one flaw, or that just once, they might be wrong. I can stand stubbornness, as long a person will at least listen to arguments.
I have a super easy solution for you, Don't play Minecraft. Accept it for what it is or Don't play it if you dont like it.
Did you even read his post? He brought up several relevant points. You're not even commenting on what he said. You're just assuming that he dislikes lightning, and therefore shouldn't play Minecraft. If everyone who didn't like any specific aspect of the game had to leave, the game would have no players whatsoever. The actual "super easy solution" would be to listen to and address the problems stated. I'm sure if we acted civilized rather than randomly flaming, we could come to a solution that works for everybody. Unfortunately, given the state of this forum, I doubt that will ever happen.

I think that the game forcing you to build only with non-flammable materials is stupid. This game isn't a survival game. It's a sandbox game with some survival aspects to it. And the main point of a sandbox game is to do whatever you'd like. If you're a miner or a fighter, or someone who only wants the survival, that's fine. But, among the builders like myself, flammable blocks, such as wool and wood, are rather nice looking. Are you saying that the builders shouldn't play? I think that lightning should only light netherrack and mobs on fire, and also detonate TNT.
I like these very much. Making string have more uses would make the spinning wheel more balanced, as the more uses it has, the more you need it. And seeing as you need string to make the spinning wheel, you still need to kill a spider for all you people who think peaceful is lame and only for cowards and sissies.
And the wheelbarrow does not make the storage minecart obsolete. I'd assume the wheelbarrow slows you down, or at the very least obstructs your view. The storage minecart is for quickly sending materials to a predetermined location. The wheelbarrow is to slowly move materials to a place that is either nearby, or otherwise not worthy of having a minecart track go by it.
Zombies - Been suggested
Skeletons - Never been caught off guard by one? They can hurt you rather nicely
Creeper - Not sure how spreading them out makes them more stealthy... They are annoying enough already anyway
Spider - If you want the challenge of fighting spiders in mountainy areas, probably best to hang around mountains
Slime - Oddly enough, this is the one mob I think should be made tougher. It's pretty rare and only found deep underground. I think it could stand to be rather tough (after it's drop is made worthwhile, tho)
Ghasts - How do you propose the fireballs are made easier to aim? Do the gravitate towards the Ghasts? That seems too easy, all you have to do now is look towards them, they're big enough.
My goal is to make combat more interesting. Not to make mobs harder. Of course, in one happening, the other will also invariably happen for at least one mob. So let me rephrase.
Zombies: I'm aware that it has been suggested, but as I'm offering improvements for the rest, I figured I might as well.
Skeletons: Skeletons may be able to hurt you quite nicely, but what strategy do you use to fight them that makes them so different from other mobs? They are an uninteresting enemy that offers little to combat.
Creeper: If many creepers spawn in one place, it's easier to see them. If they're more spread out, it's harder. And as I've said, I want to make enemies more interesting, not more annoying. Exactly what makes the creeper so annoying to you?
Spider: I could certainly choose to "hang around" mountainous areas, but I'm trying to improve enemies in general. Not trying to satisfy my own personal needs.
Slime: Yes, but since it currently offers no reward, I see no need for it to be harder.
Ghast: Perhaps I wasn't to clear. What I meant was to make the ghast hitbox slightly bigger. Currently you could hit a ghast dead on, but still cause it no damage. A bigger target would be easier to aim for. Because while ghasts are big, they have a surprisingly small area (relatively to their size) in which you can hurt them.
I think minecraft combat needs to be much better developed. Right now, it's either repetitive hitting and dodging, or repetitive shooting. Now, I won't go into combat mechanics or weapons or anything like that. I'm just going to work on the hostile mobs, and making sure each mob has its own unique fighting style, that will require some thinking, rather than mindless bashing of the keys.
Zombie
This is the most simple enemy. Something of a training battle. And, in my opinion, not a whole lot has to be changed about this. One thing I would like to see is armoured zombies. Zombies would sometimes wear an article leather or iron armour. This could possible contribute to their defense, as you'd expect armour to do so. When killed, they would drop that armour, with slightly depleted durability.
Skeleton
Skeletons are where strategy starts to come into play. The current skeleton is pretty easy to beat. Either get a wall between you and it, or get a change in elevation. Both of these allow you to kill it with a sword pretty easily. So, I'd like to see skeletons spawn more in flat areas. This will make them harder to beat with changes in elevation, and pressure you use a bow. As they can be seen at long distances in flat area, they are easy to dispatch, but they can also see you easier. I'm considering giving skeletons better eyesight. What do you think?
Creeper
I know exactly what I want done for the creeper. The creeper forces you to stay alert. I'd like to improve their stealthiness. First, I'd like to see them spawn only one or two at a time in one place. Packs make them easier to spot, and (with the exception of caves) I always seem to see creepers in packs. But I don't want to lower their spawning rate. Just have them spawn over a greater area, thus spreading them out more.
Spider
The spider is already a very good enemy. But it makes for bland battle in flatish areas. I'd like to see spiders spawn more in mountainous areas, as the terrain makes the fight much more interesting. Both you and the spider use the terrain to your advantage, the spider being able to jump and climb, but also being limited by size.
Slime
Oddly enough, I see nothing wrong with the slime.
Ghast
I'd like to see more strategy involved in fighting ghasts. My proposal is that ghasts will now attempt to stay rather elevated above you, as well as keeping 32 meters away from you. The ghast is already incredibly hard to kill (I don't mean it's a hard enemy. I just mean that they're usually difficult to kill), My changes will make it harder to kill directly. I also would like ghast fireballs to be easier to aim when reflected. This would make the ghast easily killable in two ways. If you have a proper base with very good defenses, or if you reflect fireballs at it, since fireballs travel in a straight line.

Now I'm wondering what Muncher would think.

What about a thirty nine and a half foot pole?
