Wow. I really like this idea. But maybe you should reduce the maximum number of leeches being on Steve at any time to four, just to keep with powers of two, which minecraft seems to be fond of.
Minecraft has a variety of ways to fight a battle. You could run in swinging a sword. You could pick your enemies off from a distance with bows. You could use a fishing rod to bring your opponent closer, or toss him off a cliff. Potions offer even more strategies. But one of the big disappointments recently was with the enchantable bows. The enchantments themselves aren't bad, but people seemed disappointed that flaming arrows don't light TNT. It got me thinking. This is what I came up with.
The ender bomb is a tentative name, but I couldn't think of anything else at the moment. You craft it by surrounding an ender pearl (possibly an ender eye?) with gunpowder. You can throw it, and it travels through the air somewhat slowly, at the speed of an ender pearl, and when it hits, it explodes. The explosion is equal to that of a creeper explosion, which is less than TNT. Additionally, this may be used to detonate TNT from a distance, as explosions detonate TNT.
You may say, "well what about griefing?" Well, it doesn't seem to me that the average griefer would be devoted enough to have enough ender pearls for this to be a viable griefing tactic. Endermen aren't that common to find, and when you attack them, they may very well teleport away to where you won't find them. Not to mention that they don't always drop pearls. It would probably be easier to lure a creeper into someone's house, or just to use TNT.
I'd like to question, and forgive me if I'm being incredibly ignorant here, but is there a command which allows you to set mob spawners to spawn whatever mob you'd like? I only ask because I've become interested in making an adventure map, and I want to do it with as few mods/editors as possible.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found what I was looking for. Have a nice day.
I see Notch as a George Washington sort of character. Or maybe like King Saul. He can get it off the ground, but won't do in the long term. I'm glad he's stepping down, as it's been shown time and time again that Jeb is the better developer at this stage in Minecraft. I'm sure Notch will still contribute, and obviously he'll still start new projects, and I'm happy about that. But I think that Minecraft will be better run under the reign of Jeb.
Under Jeb's reign, I hope to see more content built upon, and less content added at random.
About the ghasts, making them render, but not the terrain wouldn't be feasible with the way the game works right now, but if Mojang would actually change the program to fit the features, rather than the other way around, it might. It'd be pretty simple to make mobs mobile even when the terrain they're on isn't rendered. Of course, it would result in just about every mob outside the rendered terrain falling into the void, but ghasts can fly. And it would look lousy, but that's beside the point.
As the game works now, I'm pretty sure mobs can't move if they're in unloaded chunks. So if a ghast is firing at you from outside the rendered area, then you can use their fireball as a sort of sonar to locate them. I may be wrong though.
I think that the rotten flesh is fine, but I wouldn't say no to some extra features.
Perhaps the rotten flesh should be brewable into a hunger potion which you could then turn into a splash potion. Useful for PVP to prevent your opponent from healing themselves.
Additionally, I think the hunger effect rotten flesh gives you should nullify poison effects. Because, when you think about it, the reason it makes you hungry would most likely be because it either... passes through your system very quickly, or... comes back up. Either way, it would expel the poison from you.
I don't care if you can make giant mushrooms. I just want the old mushroom spreading back! First off, it's hardly overpowered, especially when compared to these new mushrooms. Secondly, it was cool seeing giant patches of mushrooms in caves on rare occasion.
Dream endings are overused, and I consider them a sort of cop-out. I like the idea of bosses in minecraft. I'm hoping that the mysterious square rooms in abandoned mineshafts will become home to some sort of spider mini-boss. But I don't want minecraft to have a set story. Especially if that story is only revealed very late in the game. If minecraft should have a story, it should only be in adventure mode. Creative is for the builders. Survival is for the survivors. Adventure is for the people who like to have a story to their games. Come to think of it, adventure could be like a "tutorial" for survival mode, since it would be basically the same, but have a story to get you through.
Please do not jump to conclusions. I did use the search bar, and found nothing anything like what I just suggested in ten pages. Keep in mind, just about everything on this forum will have been suggested at least once before, and if you are going to tell me to use search, I would like at least one reference to another topic, and the more recent it was, the better.
Also, even if you do tell me to use search without showing any of the aforementioned courtesies, I would appreciate feedback on the idea.
I can understand the removal of silk touch on mob spawners. In survival mode, the acquisition of mob spawners is overpowered. However, in creative mode, there is nothing which is overpowered (well, perhaps large scale world edit features might be bad for a creative server). I therefore propose that mob spawners be placeable, and editable, in creative mode.
This change would greatly assist the makers of custom maps who won't or can't to use mods or external editors. Notch has given support to texture map makers, I don't see why he shouldn't support mapmakers. Mod support might be a different story, but Notch has shown interest in doing that as well. The allowance of mob spawners in creative would also help mob scientists and engineers such as myself. I enjoy building odd contraptions using mobs, but find it difficult to corral many mobs into one area.
You may ask "well what about multiplayer?" To which I respond, if the admin of a server does not want mob spawners on his server, he may impose rules regarding this. It is not the job of Mojang to adhere to a small portion of server admins. I also here, though I won't stand by this, that it is quite easy for server admins to ban certain blocks.
As of yet, I am merely putting the idea out to see what people think. If the idea becomes popular, I may take this further. Please give your honest criticism.

Well, yes, but made more minecraft-y.

Um. It's the Greek alphabet.
I also disagree with the OP, and I also agree with everyone else.

It might have mysterious and unknown powers, allowing me to stop time and escape, but probably not.
