Captain, what about adding a feature to your awesome program to overlay an image on the map (bmp or png) with controllable transparency. Something like this would make it significantly easier to recreate an existing map or create a new one based on a sketch of the world.

It wouldn't change how the world was generated, but is merely a tool to assist the creation of maps.

I relentlessly explore until I find a suitable spot (it has to be perfect) and then I build a simple 7x7 house and play it for like two weeks and then get bored of Minecraft and quit for a month.

Well, the Forest Ostard is a passive ridable animal that is both bird-like and lizard-like. Its colors range from light blue to dark blue, light red to dark red, gold to dark brown, or light green to dark green. Its favorite food is fruit and they made semi-adorable sounds that resembles a large chirping type of noise. You can read more about them here (Note that I always use the 2D sprites from UO and not their horrible 3D.):

    Here's the colors:

It is Minecraft fanart in a way, because it's a Minecraft model. I'd feel wrong putting this in some random Art & Creativity forum because this is far more relevant. But hey, mods will move it if they feel it's necessary. :iapprove:

Not really, because you don't break down a fetus to craft a fully functioning adult.

Honestly, life forms have nothing to do with this.

It's like...what would you rather have...a single fish, or a fishing pole?

The fish is more useful to you, technically, because you can eat it or use it as bait, but you can't eat a fishing pole. However, the fishing pole grants you access to significantly more fish.

Logs give you 4x as much Planks, that makes them entirely more useful, valuable, and through "reverse-inheritance" gives them a higher "rank."

By the way, I am aware that I keep adding things to my posts. It's just to avoid double posting.

If you are mindlessly mining with no specific ore or amount of ore in mind, how are you measuring value? Because any measurment you care to take on it, the diamond pick wins. And if you are not measuring value, then how can you say the stone pick is more valauble? The most you could say in that case is that it is irrelevant, and hence they are equal.

This is entirely relevant. If we can;'t even settle that diamond is better than stone, which is practically a truism in the game, how can we settle anyhting?

The flaw in every one of your arguments is that you're representing opinion as fact. Also, you seem to think that everyone plays the same way you do with the same exact goals in mind, which is entirely false.

Saying that diamond is better than stone is also an opinion, as an item's value, like I stated, is entirely determined by the person using that item.

The only way you could state, as fact, that diamond was better than stone is by disregarding every opinion and playstyle and going by the absolute technicalities that are the game's code. TECHNICALLY a diamond pickaxe is better than a stone pickaxe. However, each person's playstyle and particular goals completely change an item's value to that person. That's why it could be said, as an opinion, that stone is better than diamond.

Again, that time argument is invalid because not everyone desires the same thing from their game, even when they do the same tasks such as mining. When you mine, your goal could be to get as much blocks as possible in the shortest amount of time. However, my goal when mining could be to mindlessly mine with no specific ore or amount of ore in mind. That makes a stone pickaxe entirely more valuable, to me, than a diamond. Let's stop arguing about this because it's irrelevant to the topic.

The rank. That's what's being disputed. You say the rank of the planks is higher because you can create more things with it. However, if you can craft planks out of logs, then the logs reverse-inherit (That was honest the best way I could phrase that.) the value of the planks, therefore giving logs more value and a higher (non-existent) rank.

If you are mining, you have use for a diamond pick. You save time. Real time. Diamonds picks have a value that transcends the game. Regardless of how you measure the in-game usefulness, you cannot dispute that real-world time has value. You will either finish what you are doing sooner, giving you more time to do other things, and hence gaining the value of those other things, or you will get more done in the same time span, and hence gaining the value of that extra progress.

But using a diamond pickaxe won't determine the amount of time I spend playing the game. That makes your "real time" argument invalid, because regardless of which pickaxe I use I'm still wasting real time on a game. Having a diamond pickaxe simply means I could get more stone in a shorter amount of time, but how much stone I can get is irrelevant because I don't NEED 1,000 stone.

You're basing your argument on how you play your game. That's not a valid argument because we all play differently.

However, saying that a log is more useful than a plank is based on the fact that 1 log is equal to 4 planks. Of course, the definition of "useful" is what's really being argue over.

Is a block's usefulness determined by what it can make? Or is it determined by what you can do with it? Or are both questions essentially the same?

That's all fine and dandy...if you're on a time limit or want to compare the times or do it as fast as possible. However, arguing with you about the value of a stone pickaxe is utterly pointless because the value of a stone pickaxe is entirely determined by the person using it. I have no use whatsoever for a diamond pickaxe, therefore it's useless to me. I have no real use for an iron one, either.

Which means I could say the same thing:

    If that's what you think...
    You're doing it wrong.

Know why? Because that's entirely an opinion. :iapprove:

If Logs were actually better than planks, then there would be no reason to have planks.

That doesn't make sense. Logs are better than planks because, like previously stated, 1 log is equal to 4 planks. Therefore, logs hold at least four times the value of planks. That's not even figuring in building with logs or the ability to make charcoal.

Just because something is better than another thing doesn't mean both can't exist together.

In addition to that, an iron pickaxe is entirely more useful than a diamond one. A stone pickaxe is more useful than an iron one because of its availability and the fact that diamond pickaxes aren't worth the diamonds they're made of and gold is useless to anyone who doesn't use minecart tracks.

Now I'm just straying from the topic.

Logs are more useful than planks entirely, all for the reasons previously mentioned.
