Playing this game "vanilla" isn't even fun, and the replay value isn't there.

Speak for yourself, hundreds of hours in without any mods and I still have tons more to do.

posted a message on Got lost in the caves.
When I am exploring caves I wall off sections I've explored and don't need to return to with cobblestone or something else that obviously doesn't belong there. Eventually, the only way to go is back out.

Just what I wanted! I have extended my map fairly far in all directions and didn't feel like making a new camp far away to find lapiz.

posted a message on why do so many servers have whitelists...
One of the things preventing me from trying out multiplayer is whitelists. If I could find a great server that is to my tastes, that would be great, but the prospect of applying for a server (which sometimes includes registering to another site or forum), waiting for a response, and trying out the server (which could take hours to determine how much I like it) over and over until I finally find the perfect one just seems too tedious.

I am going to agree with the OP on this one
With the amount of money dude has made he should hire a few programmers for this game to move it along.

SO far the modders are blowing notch out of the water as far as good content goes.

We paid money for this game now lets get behind the OP and start demanding some major changes additions and bug fixes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean like the major changes and bug fixes that happened yesterday? Adding programmers is not a good way to develop something more quickly. Especially in a game like Minecraft where things can be added pretty quickly, and design is more important.

Modders (I'm including built-in level makers here) will always be able to make more content than game developers, that is not a situation unique to Minecraft in any way. I didn't see anyone make this complaint about Spore, Little Big Planet, Starcraft, City of Heroes, or any other game where players can create content.

posted a message on It's too dark at night
Hello. I started playing Minecraft yesterday. I was quite dismayed when it became night, as literally the only things that I could see at night were the stars and moon. Otherwise, everything was an indistinguishable black. I know I have a cheap LCD monitor with poor black discrimination, so I turned the brightness all the way up. There was no difference.

I usually turn the gamma up a bit on games to compensate for this, but there was no such option. I googled for a solution, and this was one of the results, so I thought I would weigh in here too.

So far I'm enjoying the game, but this is definitely my biggest complaint. I don't know if there's something I'm missing, but I have a lot of trouble finding coal, too. Yes, I'm using a wood pick on the gray blocks, but it still seems very rare.
