    posted a message on Ars Magica 2 - Version 1.4.0.009 (Updated February 8, 2016)

    Hello there everybody,

I have some questions that can hopefully go answered, although my expectations are low due to the fact that I'm playing in a mod pack. I'm playing simply magic 2 (ftb) with AM2 1.4.0.009-Dev. And I'm having trouble tracking down answers, mostly because all the answers I find seem to be pre 1.4.x.

The first and major question I have is about dryad spawn conditions, namely: what are they? My friend and I have traveled all over through the overworld and mystcraft dimensions and we have seen a total of two dryads (just as I was giving up hope that they spawned at all). I personally didn't see them, but I am told they were found at night in a woodland biome 2000 blocks from spawn. I have since camped this spot for ~8 minecraft days (having killed all passive mobs in the area) and haven't seen one. So, what are their conditions for spawning, and how can I coerce them out of the trees? Do they only spawn below light level 8 like hostile mobs? Or should I be sleeping every night? Do they only spawn in certain biomes? Or is it likely that one of the mods is interfering with their normal spawn behavior?

The major question here is, are my mods completely hosing dryad spawning, or are they just causing an extremely small subset of spawnable locations to exist, in which case I could enhance their currently limited spawnable locations, and camp.

In the interest of saving time and answering the questions I foresee:

DryadSpawnRate is set to 5. and they are set to allow despawning, so I guess something to try is turning of despawning and see if that helps at all, probably should have done that before this post.

I have encountered (in the wild) plenty of darklings, plenty of fire elementals, two counts of flickers, plenty of hecates, eight mages, plent of mana creepers, and a decent number of mana elementals. I have only encountered earth elementals fighting the life guardian, and have yet to see a water elemental (but I don't spend much time in or near water).

Now, an additional question I have is regarding dark mages, they are, in this version, still suppose to drop affinity tomes when disarmed, correct? I have disarmed four and have yet to get a tome that way. Is it just a chance? Or am I missing something? Or is a mod messing this up. My guess is it's the latter, and there is not much to be done about it.

Finally, I've looked up spell creation everywhere I can, and can very rarely find non-outdated information about spell making. So, while I'm asking about ars magica in an ars magica thread, I figure ask about spells why not.

First of all, everyone everywhere says "Make a high experience giving spell by stacking all the things!". I, however, have yet to find a spell to give me more than 16 exp per cast, and buff power doesn't seem to change the exp gain at all. I won't ask for "What is your best exp spell?" I'm just curious about if there is something I should be doing if I'm looking for spells that increase my exp gains.

Secondly, can I get some clarification on spell grammar? It seems to me that the spell is read Brown box -> Gray box and for things that can go in both places, it doesn't matter. (Projectile) | (Feather Touch) | Dig is the same as (Projectile) | Dig | Feather Touch. So why limit myself to the brown boxes, when I can put the whole world in the gray box? And does this spell grammar apply everywhere? Do modifiers just modify the whole spell? Is Frost Damage, Damage, Lightning Damage the same as Frost Damage, Lightning Damage, Damage? Or is damage only added to the first thing? On top of that, short of going to a creative world and trying all the combinations, it seems hard to predict the outcome of some spells. Is there some proper way to read the spell grammar that I'm just missing?

Thanks in advance for all your help and time reading my wall of question!

Alright, thank you for the confirmation. I had heared that they were fairly common, so I was concerned when I hadn't seen one, I will go off and look harder!

    Hello,

I am currently haveing trouble finding an Ocean temple in chromaticraft. I'm using version 4c with the ftb infinity 1.2 pack. The only other changes I've made to the pack are the addition of DragonAPI (duh) and added Lycanites mobs, magical crops, and power converters. I don't think anything that I added would mess with the generation of Ocean temples, but is there something else in the infinity pack I'm using that might do it?

In researching this issue, I saw other people having issues finding them in 4c, but I never found if they were confirmed to spawn or confirmed to not be spawning in version 4c.

Overall, I'm just looking for confirmation that they should infact be there before I comb the ocean floor for another two hours.

Hmm, so that is not helping either. Is there more info I can provide you with so that we can narrow down what might be causing this crash?

Can you give me a link to possible settings and configurations to change? The wiki includes no other arguments.

Currently, this is the batch file I am using:
    java -Xmx2G -Xms2G -jar -d64 minecraft_server.jar -o true
    pause

Is there something you recommend I add?

Hello, so I recently started incurring a problem on my server in which it would crash every now and then when people were around nether portals. Always "ticking entity". My friend said it happened to him once when he was mining cobble behind his portal and it went in the portal, so I started with this for my trouble shooting. Any and all help would be appreciated.

    Trouble shooting:
I went to his portal and tried throwing in cobble, first cobble nothing, second cobble crash.
    Reproduced this.
Tried with raw beef (something I just had on me). Again, second one through crashed.
Tried at a different nether portal, crashed again (after the second one through).
Tried nether to overworld portal, did NOT crash.
Tried my friend at one portal and me at a different portal, threw cobble in at the same time at both sides, did not crash (until I threw a second cobble on my side).
Tried spawning chickens in the portal, crashed after the second chicken (mob).
Tried cobble -> raw beef -> cobble, crashed after the second cobble, not the raw beef.
Tried chicken -> cow, crashed after the cow.
Tried cow -> me -> cow, crashed after the second cow.
Tried cow -> ~20 seconds -> cow, did NOT crash.

Can work on narrowing down the time frame if people feel it's necessary.

All the crash reports look basically the same (to me), but here are two:

posted a message on Weird Port Forwarding Issues
Okay so first let me say that I have hosted a server before on a different network, successfully port forwarded and had no issues connecting. But something weird is going on this time, first I went ahead and port forwarded like normal (did my IPv4 address and port 25565), followed up with a check-up on yougetsignal.com (from both the computer I had port forwarded and another computer) and it said the port was open. Then I tried to connect to the server, but I could only connect through my local IP and not my external IP for some reason. Now, I removed the port forwarding rules previously added and have redone them and now yougetsignal.com says they ports aren't open at all, but I'm sure I did everything right.

    Information:
I have a Comtrend AR-5381u, and under advanced setup -> NAT is where I made the rule changes. I tried doing just a TCP rule, a TCP/UDP rule, and doing 2 rules (one for TCP and one for UDP).

    Any help?

posted a message on Minecraft Vanilla Models
I wasn't sure where to put this, so sorry if it's the wrong place, but I figured here is where I'd get people with the most experience in what I'm trying to do.

I would like to extract the models from minecraft, in the form of .obj files, now I've looked all over the internet and as far as I can tell everyone is trying to get NPC models into minecraft or map models out, but I want to be very clear here, I want to get NPC models out. I realize I could probably go through the process of generating my own models for this, but I would like them to be perfect to scale which seems tedious to me, then again, I'm guessing the steps to go from nothing to being able to find anything remotely usable is tedious as well. I've done my research and it seems the best way to go about what I'm trying to do (on a mac no less) is to install python and run MCP with it to extract the .java files for each NPC and then cast magic on these files to turn them into .obj (I have not yet found a program to do this however, but I have found programs that do the reverse so I figure there's a remote possibility of it.)

So, I guess my questions are: Is there actually a way to do this? Or am I going about my project all wrong? Or does anyone know a place where I can find all the vanilla models at the right scale? Thanks in advance.
