posted a message on Physics Gamemode
Well, the addition of a physics gamemode doesn't mean that the normal survival mode of Minecraft no longer exists, so the community won't have any reason to rage that the new gamemode 'ruined Minecraft! Fix your game, Jeb!' or something.

The only problem with the gamemode is that it would be painstakingly hard to code. Well-known mechanics of blocks would have to be changed, and some aspects of the world generation would have to be changed as well, because the game currently generates insane overhangs in Extreme Hill Biomes that defy physics, and would collapse if the physics was applied. Even the Nether would turn into a disaster, considering that the whole Nether is an empty space under a hardly supported bedrock ceiling. And how about the End? The End Island is a floating biome. It's not supported at all, and what would happen to it in the physics gamemode? Would it collapse into the void?

While these problems with the world generation can be avoided, coding it for the sake of a gamemode that the community might not approve of seems like a bad idea. The coding would require a titanic scale of effort, and is bound to be buggy. It would be an unprecedented coding challenge for the developers of Minecraft, so this idea really isn't all that feasible as it seems.

posted a message on new decoration item: block overlay or block cover
    Quote from 0_Zippy

Sometimes, when a thread goes hours with no replies, it means that people don't share any interest or concern for the idea. This isn't always the case. I personally think your idea is right in the middle. Not horrible but not that great either. I'm not much of a builder/decorator in Minecraft, but I'm sure others might like your idea.

I guess the reason no one is posting here is because the thread is kinda hard to comprehend. I understand and enjoy the idea, but I think that if you made your suggestion a little bit clearer, people would enjoy the idea of block overlays a lot more.

I don't think I'll comment much on the idea itself, however I should probably mention that the string in the crafting recipe should be replaced with leather (so the leather surrounds the dye in an 'O' shape. That way, the crafting recipe says true to the existing crafting recipe for item frames.

posted a message on Taming bats: silverfish as food to tame bats
Good filler use for bats and silverfish. I don't like the feeling of knowing that 'useless' (not contributing to gameplay whatsoever) mobs exist in Minecraft.

I suggest that silverfish drops can be made edible both by players and bats alike. Say silverfish drop their tails which are then fed to the bats to tame them, perhaps players can eat the tails too? Of course, eating silverfish tails isn't an enticing prospect, so perhaps 1 silverfish tail would give you the poison potion effect (similar to what happens when you eat spider eyes)? Of course, the tails wouldn't have any negative effects on the bats. Silverfish tails can also be used for healing tamed bats in the same way that rotten flesh heals wolves.

posted a message on Chests, not being able to place another chest beside them.
Now that we're all so used to having large chests separate from one another, I don't think we all like the idea of being able to place large chests adjacent to each other.

Besides, it would take forever to code the chests such that large chests don't connect to one another. If the community is used to not having adjacent chests, I see no need for this change.

I'd probably write an epic story about my misadventures during the 6 months over which I've played Minecraft :D

posted a message on Iron Golems Glitching Through Enclosure
Personally, I've had the most trouble with mobs glitching through fences, but doubling the layer always seems to prevent mobs from escaping out of both fence and block enclosures alike. So you should double the block layer.

Also, doubling the layer is safer than replacing the glass with iron bars. Besides, if the golems can glitch through whole glass blocks, surely they can glitch through thin iron bars as well. Who knows?

posted a message on Your Preferred Survival Bases
I like to build small bases in the sides of mountains or small hills in forests when I first start my world, but I always build myself a huge and sprawling underground base afterwards. I find underground bases cozier than above-ground bases, for that awesome protective feeling and whatnot :D

posted a message on I have yet to encounter a village.
Definitely, plains and deserts have the greatest odds of spawning villages. Perhaps you should have some sort of conscience towards these biomes, but it's a pity that some worlds spawn you in huge snow biomes without any villages for several Minecraft days in any direction. In fact, I had to start my Survival world once because there simply wasn't a village within a 5000-block radius of my spawn.

Given a decent world, however, villages shouldn't be hard to find. :)

posted a message on Endermen and Ender Pearls
Flat biomes tend to spawn the most endermen (not to mention other hostile mobs, so be careful!)

2-block high shelters can be used for fighting endermen, ensuring that you can attack them without them attacking you. Once you do manage to kill the Ender Dragon, the End becomes a good source of pearls, if you build 2-block high ceilings and start staring down endermen. However, the pearls aren't nearly as useful once you kill the dragon :/

posted a message on Getting Rid Of Snow?
I don't think snow is much of a hindrance to building. I mean, you can still place blocks on snowy ground, right?

If you do want to get rid of snowfall for a prolonged period of time, though, then yes, you would have to pretty much torch/glowstone the heck out of that area. Buckets of water won't stop snow from falling on the ground when it rains.

posted a message on How rare are Nether Fortresses?
There is no limit to the number of Nether Fortresses available in a given world. If you wander in a given direction for 10-15 minutes or so in the Nether, chances are you will stumble upon one sooner or later, though it's not uncommon to get unlucky to the point where you don't find any at all and end up ragejumping in lava.

posted a message on Why is there no crafting recipe for Cobwebs?
    Quote from doctorcweed

Some people are against this complaint because it's not realistic enough, in Minecraft?

I'm honestly not sure whether to accept 'it's not realistic enough' as a valid argument. Sure, there are crafting recipes for a lot of unrealistic blocks / items out there, but cobwebs seem to be a strange exception.

While I do feel that they should keep it such that cobwebs cannot be crafted (Rather silly, isn't it?), I do agree that it should be able to be harvested with Silk Touch. It being available on Survival Mode will mean that it can be used for aesthetic purposes in building projects. :D

    Quote from tidus4eva

Wow, how did I miss AntVenom playing this? Did he have a second channel? It's not in my subscription box >_<

Ant is filling in for CavemanFilms, who's having a hard time getting over the passing of his mother.

Anyway, great map! I especially love the way you exploited the 1.4 technology. One of the most well-organised pure mob fighting maps I've ever played.

posted a message on weird noise
Minecraft's sound system is really bugged, so sounds occasionally don't play where they're supposed to. My assumption is that what you heard was the angry wolf roaring sound. I think there's a bug where if you hit your pet wolf accidentally, it will still obey you but it will, for some reason, play the angry wolf sounds. By any chance, did you have any pet (tamed) wolves on that creative world?

posted a message on Is there any way to contain the Wither Boss?
If you contain the Wither in an underground room, it should make it much easier to attack. The only drawback is that the Wither's blue skulls are able to break the walls of your shelter regardless of the block you built it out of, and as a result you might only be able to get a one-time use out of each underground room you create to fight a Wither. Also, expect there to be significant destruction surrounding your underground room.
