I usually, on my first night gather a bunch of wood and start building my home in a good environment. Then i dig a little hole underground near my home, and build my tools overnight. If I don't have a bed, I just keep the workbench menu open and browse the forums until day. I then use my little hole as a memorial of "My First Night".
The most familiar mistake I made was that I tried to make a very big wood home on the first night. I didn't know about craft benches yet or tools, so I had not a clue what I was doing. Night snuck up on me, and bit me in the butt. My first Minecraft night was hell. I died atleast 7 times, most from cuddly creepers...
I made a free account about 4 weeks before Beta. Just screwed around. And then I heard Beta was coming, and lifetime updates were dissapearing. I bought it on the last day of Alpha, kind of skeptical. Turned out to be the best 15 bucks (10 Euros, w/e) I've spent in a while.
I like beds. Sometimes I just don't want to stick out 7 minutes in my little house... I think it's a great idea that mobs should... be mobs while we sleep. That way it's balanced.
Hello everyone. On all the server softwares I have tried for SMP, the monsters are always not working well. When i attempt to attack one, I get hurt for some reason. For example, I tried to hit a zombie at a fair distance away (the same i use in SP) and I got damaged one heart using a Diamond Sword. The server I use isn't the best, so would it have to do with that?
If you need any info feel free to ask. And thanks.
zombies and mobs in general are more powerful in SMP.
Zombies have double your melee range for instance.

The monsters also have more health.
