yup, completely random. The process works in 3 stages:
1. Every comment on the Facebook status is loaded into a database:
2. A process runs that parses the comments and finds the usernames in each comment. Then it checks with minecraftforum.net if that account exists and if it does it stores the usernames and the account ID:
As you can see the columns on the far right are the MCF Username and MCF ID, for the first 2 people (Jonathon La, Tyler Christianson) the names they provided aren't valid (they are minecraft.net names, not minecraftforum.net names) so they get "0" and "0" set, which means they don't get entered.
3. A process runs that loads all the legitimate accounts into memory (everyone that has provided a valid MCF name), it then removes anyone from that list that has already won and removes duplicates (everyone only gets 1 entry) and it then picks 20 random names from that list, assigns them each a code from my database of valid codes and then it sends a private message to each one and outputs to me who they are.
So as long as you meet the following criteria:
1. Your username was posted on the Facebook post in the required fashion (just your username)
2. You have not won already
You are entered to win every time we randomly pick 20 winners.
If you comment again it won't hurt you, but no advantage unless you think the first time you posted your name might not have been valid etc.
We don't pick the people ourselves, we don't look at their profile, there is no possible way for bias. You entered a contest, with the possibility of winning something, you shouldn't have had the expectation of winning.
There are 100 total codes. There were 32 thousand comments on the Facebook page and 9 thousand likes. If only the likes were unique people, that means you had a 1.11% chance to win.
We know pretty is banned. She should have still received an email for her code, we also know "hi" hasn't been active, but they'd receive an email as well.

Edit: Just looking at the section, I don't see why it needs to be split even more. Maybe at best enforce tagging, but right now there is a 30 hour gap between last posts on the first and last post of the front page of Computers & Technology. Why does that need to be made even slower? General support is by far slower, having a multi-day last post range. What benefit would be gained by making mods have 5 sections instead of 2 to look at when it already takes more than a day to remove something from the front page?

Actually, inactivity is harmful, especially for content that only needs to be viewed to be helpful. I could easily split M&M into a dozen of extra topics for organization, but it'd only make threads receive less views because X didn't happen to be browsing that section and see a topic name that interested them.
If you want a specific example: I made a section for reviewers in the M&M section. It was almost universally wanted, requested, and after a few weeks of watching threads related to reviews get traffic I decided it might be a good idea. Threads barely got any views except for by people requesting their content be reviewed. Those threads struggled in the normal sections, but basically died in a section made for them.
Someone may not be specifically looking for a thread, but happen to see one titled similar to an interest of theirs and decide to read more, or see a similar issue and find out how someone else fixed it.

Right now, I think it's set up like
which means even if you put it in a word, it'll still censor the swear. If you did
then just pluralizing the would would allow it to bypass the swear filter, and make the filter pretty much useless.
If you mean to put it at the front of the word ("* word*") then it's bypassed by putting the swear after any letter or symbol. Then, people would just #swear to circumvent the filter.
Personally, I feel the word could just be removed from the filter since, at least in my opinion, it's one of the less offensive ones. Unless they can tell it to ignore "Lapis Size" and "Lapis Spread" from the filter, but then they'd have issues of people typing it in and misspelling it, which would then make the filter remove it anyways.

Post it there with some information about the game and maybe any images/videos that they have.

Because it has a bit of NSFW, the TLDR version is he doesn't really have an issue with adblock users, but it causes issues for the content you like. Destructoid reported 40% of their users blocked their ads, that means the other 60% need to cover the costs of those 40%, which doesn't necessarily mean 60% more ads because those people who adblock might be on the site more, which means even more ads. Advertisements also get made worse and more intrusive to get the people who do view ads, and then more people adblock because the ads are intrusive and they blame the site, not the advertisers.
More people that adblock, the more ads that are needed to cover their costs. Personally, I feel people who adblock sites yet regularly use the site are simply leaching off the site and should either disable adblock or not use the site at all. There are other ways to get rid of the ads while still supporting the site in some way. You can buy Curse Premium and have no ads on any curse site, or upload a good texture pack or mod and if it gets 1000 downloads you get it for free.
The one thing I agree with Jimquisition most though, if you adblock and tell someone to change/cater to you while you support them in no way, the person creating the content shouldn't give you a moment of attention.
That's my personal opinion though.

Overall it's a very nice and way better system than we used to have (every post in 1 section), but it still takes time.
If I remember correctly, those buttons do absolutely nothing. I'm not sure what they were originally supposed to do, but they're unused in our current system.

Most of the time when a rule is broken it isn't because they don't know the rules, but because they didn't remember or didn't care. A quiz wont change that.
Herobrine
Herobr1ne
Her0brine
Her0br1ne
Hero Brine
Typos of the word "Herobrine"
etc.
And then, even if that did happen and we filtered every variation of the word, they just call it "him" half the time anyways. The filter wouldn't resolve this.
It is already very strict and already gets numerous false positives on actual members with less than 10 posts. If you see spam, report it. No automatic system will catch everything without making the forums unusable.
Nope.
I doubt that percent is correct, since I don't use any adblock/script blockers and have never received anything malicious, or at least nothing that got past my antivirus or malwarebytes. Besides, a little compensation for their work from the numerous people that would never donate I don't see a problem with. Sure, they may only get a few bucks total from their created content, but I doubt they're looking to pay their bills with it.
And if you're using the internet without an antivirus and malware protection, it isn't just adfly that's going to infect your system.
Lolwat. If something blocks the site, of course it isn't going to permit you to bypass it. As for blocking the button if an anti virus is on, I've never heard of that and I don't disable mine to get through adfly.
And most people don't donate.
Yeah, they're so good at deleting criticism of curse that threads criticizing curse still exist.
Ohwait, no they leave actual criticism around, they just delete threads that are nothing but attacks. Cuz you know, insulting and attacking = criticism.
For example: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2243413-is-mcf-turning-not-good/#entry27406336
Finally ended with a response from citric explaining things a day later and being locked not deleted.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/2256043-grievances-from-ppns-forum
Or this thread, containing responses from citric and went on for a few days before being locked.
There are other threads too, and people are free to criticize, but as long as it is criticism. Insults and attacks are not criticism. If things are done in at least a polite manner, citric for as long as I've known him has never had an issue seeing it. When it devolves to insults and attacks, that's when it gets locked, or when the conversation is just going in circles.

If this were the case, it'd be easily exploited by whoever is ddosing. Use the forum once normally, suddenly no more protection.
