For certain files (Sheep overlays, colorless foliage, etc.) The .tga format is used. This is really prominent in windows 10 edition.

Beefy_Tim posted a message on Minecraft PC Edition may become inferior to other versions.

Here's what I believe what will happen between the PC Bedrock Core versions vs Java editions

MacOS will be getting their own PE-derived version- this is confirmed.

Win10/MacOS App editions WILL take the spotlight after the big unification update. They will have the best Mojang + Microsoft support.

Java edition will most likely meet the fate that Windows XP did, it will still have a niche community, but no more official support and soon the updates will end. Not because of Microsoft, but because Mojang will prefer to develop for the PE-Derived editions due to them being more versatile and easier to program features for.

As for Linux users... They will probably be the ones that will keep the Java niche alive in the back corner, kinda like how raspberry pi keeps the pi edition alive in some form. Java edition will be the new "Testing bench" that Pi edition is now.

    Progression is an ever-changing process.

Beefy_Tim posted a message on When Did Minecraft Go Bad?

Minecraft itself didn't go bad. It was when the game became so available and saturated that utter garbage community content was spat out in return. The community went bad, the game just feels bad because of nostalgia.

EDIT: I'm making a video explaining this exact thing- stay tuned!

Beefy_Tim posted a message on Project: Planet - [SMP] [Factions] [PvP Toggle] A classic styled server in the modern world!

    Project: Planet...

Ever want that classic simple bukkit survival server feeling where you can just pick up and play?

Yes? Then this is the server for you!

Project: Planet strives to recreate that simple survival server feeling that died off around 2013, Meet players, throw a party at your place, find secrets littered around the server!

What do we have, you might ask?

    • A free range of terrain outside the survival spawn, run wild!
    • Looting is 100% allowed on unclaimed chests!
    • Lockette
    • A Creative plot world!
    • A simple spleef system, not very large scale and flashy. Just to break up some monotony.
    • Paintball, a very addictive minigame.
    • FACTIONS! But not in the way you might think! Before the uprising of anarchy faction servers, factions used to be a lot more like teams, instead of war parties!
    • JOBS! Project: Planet doesn't care about "Economic stability" like most survival servers do nowadays.
    • Survival shop to buy the simple things for houses and builds!
    • A staff that strives to make friends with every player.
    • A simple ranking system
    • A nostalgic undertone.
    • PvP toggle
    • Survival Games Arenas! Think of the normal survival games mechanic, but multiple levels and more confined. Like Quake!

No, it's not. Read the fine print. The 70/30 split is after Mojang/Microsoft take all of their profits first.

So all in all, everything is A-OK, players can still get free content from mediafire or wherever the user hosts their map/content pack downloads, the store is completely optional, there is a very heavy quality control system, honestly it takes NOTHING away from the end user. I love it! (I might even buy a thing or two when some stuff releases on there)

Unlocking dispenser recipe using only a bow is somewhat odd, as the dispenser has cobblestone and redstone. You should also need to know redstone and cobblestone, right?

Oh yeah, I did notice that- recipes should unlock when players get all materials of the item type

You're right. But the recipe book should still be tweaked more.

How? Its literally on an unlock-based system. No real way you can improve that.

Not really- it doesn't really give a technical advantage. Besides, consoles and pocket edition already have this feature.

Beefy_Tim posted a message on Add-Ons Revealed For Win10/MCPE at Minecon 2016; Boss Update Due October 18th

I have bad news for you...

The java version will not have addon support, even after the big unification update, BUT forge will not be discontinued, you will still be able to play with other versions but addons will not be compatible with the java versions.

Sounds to me like the java version will be used for testing and benchmarking for java coders and every other version (Win10, PE, and the fabled Mac App edition) will be for C++ and json content creation.

I honestly am fine with this.
