Hey. I love this map, but I just have one question.
Regarding the command blocks, I understand the /say command, but how do you color the words? For example, when Ben's talking in the boss battle, the text is green.

Overall, pretty nice map, although with a little bit of effort, it did turn out relatively easy. I think after a while, some people might get bored of it and quit, but on the other hand it might keep some people entertained. I think you should consider adding a mega build or two or a bigger island with dungeons at which you can keep one of the blocks. I'm sure with a little bit of improvement this map could be pretty good. Keep up the good work.

    The Survival Thing
Hey. I just got bored one day and started making a story. I'm actually in need of a better name, so I'm taking suggestions. Tell me if you liked it in the poll, or in a comment. I'll be adding more chapters pretty soon. Thanks for reading it in advance :)

    …Chapter One…The Awakening…

So uh… I suppose I should start from the beginning. So… I woke up on an island… I know. Original, isn’t it? Well this wasn’t just some normal island… The first thing that I noticed was that the only two trees that were there… There was something odd about them. The leaves… They weren’t necessarily… swaying. The wind was blowing, but still no motion from the leaves. The second thing that I noticed was that the ocean stood perfectly still. No waves or obstructions of any kind. I decided to ignore the ocean and go and inspect the trees. As I walked toward the first tree, sounds of grass appeared in my ear. They seemed… Louder than usual. As I approached the tree on the left, I noticed something was wrong immediately.

As I looked closer, everything began to pixelate. Everything was turning from normal… To this weird, virtual world. The bark from the tree looked pixelated. The grass, the ocean, the sand, the leaves… EVERYTHING! I began to feel light headed so I sat down for a few seconds, and leaned on the base of the tree. I honestly don’t know if it was just me or if it was actually happening, but the tree felt... Soft; like it was able to be broken easily. I actually have no idea why, but I started trying to break it. I was chipping the bark off piece by piece, and below the chipped off bark were little indentations that I was making in the block. Interesting. It was taking a while, but I put my mind to it and eventually got to the point at which it was going to fall over any second, so I moved over to the other side of the tree. Oddly enough, the tree didn’t fall, and I even broke a chunk of the wood off, but the tree just stood there, floating in mid-air. I was never so amazed in my life. I had to break the others and see what other secrets might lay inside of the remaining chunks. I slowly began to break the other chunks, but I got faster and faster at it as time went on. I honestly didn’t know what to expect what would happen when I removed the last chunk of wood. But, I did and nothing really happened, as of what I could see.

For some reason… I don’t quite understand why, but I had an instinct to… Make something. I had to. I started fiddling with the chunks of wood on the ground. I figured that the chunks of wood that I had then were a little too big to use in any project… Assuming that I actually wanted to live in this weird world. I started chipping the bark off around the chunks and eventually – by grinding them together – made them into cubes. I didn’t really like the word chunk… So I decided to call them blocks. Yes. Block sounds much better than chunk. In the end I ended up with twenty wooden planks. They were the perfect size for making anything that I needed to. Soon after, I realized that I just… Made something. I crafted it! I had the sudden urge to make a place where I could make bigger projects; things that would be useful later. I combined four of the wooden planks and added some designs to them to make myself a crafting center. A… A work bench!

So I guess you could say that I got a little caught up in making things. I just got so excited that I could actually survive! Like Man Vs Wild! I was beginning to think of myself as Bear Grylls: A survival expert. At that very moment I began to wonder what exactly that place was… And why I was there. I thought about how there was absolutely no waves, everything was pixelated, everything was out of the ordinary. If the floating wood was possible, I didn’t want to know what was possible at night time. As a matter of fact, the pixelated sun was beginning to set in the west. I began to freak out. I was going crazy. I needed to protect myself. I had to make a sword! I tried many combinations. There was no counting how many things I tried with that work bench. But finally, after many, many, many failed attempts, I made myself a wooden sword and all I needed was to make sticks and make, well… A sword! I was all set, but I didn’t think that I could survive on the surface. I needed to dig. Dig myself a hole and stay there until finally, I could surface again. I needed to survive.

Thanks! Also if you ever make another mod or a map or anything just ask me and I'll make a mod showcase or a playthrough of the map with my friend! (Or by myself)

    Will do.

Thanks! I put it up in the topic. Yes, I am currently working on all of the combinations.

also, i believe modloader lets you have infinite textures (at least, i remember it doing that), and you could also probably set up the mod to actually have 2 blocks with different damages for the different types, vastly reducing the blocks used.

I think you're thinking of Forge. ModLoader simply overrides the default terrain.png's purple (empty) slots with your custom textures. If you run out of purple slots, it gives you an error. Also, I might try using the damage values a little while later.

What do you mean by slots? Block IDs?

No. The terrain.png, in your minecraft.jar. It has 'purple blocks'. These are places where Mojang - when they make more blocks for the game, will put their textures. Using the override method pretty much places my textures in those slots, without editing the actual terrain.png file, allowing multiple mods to have textures.

Also, thanks, everybody for the feedback :)

In the FAQ, first error report, you state an exception will occur if a mod uses a slot you have used. Instead of doing this, use ModLoader and add an override:

    myBlock.blockIndexInTexture = ModLoader.addOverride("/terrain.png", "/yourfolder/picture.png");

ModLoader has this method for a reason.

The mod does use that method. It overrides the terrain.png, placing them in empty slots. There's only so many open slots.
