I really like this idea, I'm just afraid it could easily become broken. Maybe make some of the more broken options for worlds only accessible in single-player? That way we could play online in our "giant mountains with deep caves" worlds, and have our "diamond fields and creeper volcanoes and rainbows" worlds for our personal amusement.

posted a message on Some more variety? Rivers, submerged caverns, etc.
I make this topic mostly for rivers. It seems like an obvious idea; bodies of water like ponds and oceans are great and all, but there's no real difference between any of them except for size. Rivers would make for a great way for travel (and make boats a lot more useful), and they could even be their own biome, with things like mob villages and more plant life along the banks. Even if they didn't have all this fancy trim, a stream of water cutting through the landscape (with obligatory waterfalls and rapids, or course) would be delightful.

And another thought occurred to me; underwater caves. They could be implemented later, with things like fish mobs and sea monsters common. It'd be impossible to illuminate them with torches, and players would have to dig air pockets to breathe and place torches, but they could yield greater amounts of rare ore as a reward. Now, craftable submarines, that's for another suggestion thread.

Make an infinite use obsidian pickaxe with the abilities of a wood pickaxe, and you've got a winner, I think. Perfect for mining through a ton of stone, but not replacing any other tools in terms of usefulness.
