but if you use rapid pulsers then there has to be burnout. how do you do that then? I use a 4-clock and have a vertical repeater chain to go up to the top with a repeater on every other level.
That's the one thing I can't make work. If I use any torches after the pulsar, it just burns out. I've also found even if I hook it up directly to the dispenser with no torches, it still only fires once in a while, the pulsar seems to be too fast.
Check my REDSTONE WORKINGS post on page two, in the 4th image you can see that there is a torch which I have seen is necessary when using rapid pulsars. Also you cannot use any torches with the rapid pulsar cause, as you stated, burn out, that is why i have a rapid pulsar on every level.
I will try to create a rapid fire dispenser using a 5 clock pulse generator with a decent rate of fire. But it most likely will not match the rapid pulsars rate but will be much more reliable.

I have had some requests to post the save and show how the redstone works, so I will show you my discoveries and the designs behind it.
1.This is a rapid pulsar
2.This torch activated and deactivates the pulsar
3.This goes of to the dispensers
3.It sends power to the upper row and lower row
4.These horizontal lines activate the dispensers
4.One of the things I have learnt through testing is that the dispensers can be activated with a row of redstone one block behind it, it has to be on the same level as the dispenser
5.Lastly, for the pulsar to activate the dispenser every time it ticks each dispenser has to be activated, either by redstone torch or an 'ON' redstone wire
This redstone torch activates the 6 dispensers
This is the basics of how it works, hopefully it helps you. I would be happy to answer any other questions you may have!
As for the arrows part, they are soo old, flaming eggs on the other hand is awesome to the ninth degree!

Wow all these great responses thank you all, know I HAD good news and I HAVE bad news, the good news was that I got some video capturing software so that I could make a video of it in action!, I closed minecraft and got all the software ready and when I opened minecraft it was updating so I thought 'Awesome another update'.
But here comes the bad news as I was setting up my creation for what was going to be an amazing video I accidentally activated it!, I had some minor lag, but then it suddenly stopped shooting.
I checked everything and nothing had changed, only the rapid pulsar had stopped working! I have tried it multiple times but I cant get it to work.
It does still shoot for a little while but, we will not be fighting in the shade, again =(
Hopefully I will find a work around and get it back up and working! I shall keep you updated on my progress.

Playing around with these new dispensers I have discovered how fun large volleys of arrows can be, especially when directed towards an enemy or mobs. Using single player survival mode and INVedit (No I did not have the time to cut down approx. 324 trees, kill 12960 zombies [or same number of chickens/combination of both] or destroy 129600 gravel blocks!)
I have created a modular design for a rapid fire multiple barrel arrow launcher.
90 Barrels of arrow firing goodness!
Each two rows of dispensers is modular so i can add more layers above and below without any issues with wiring or movement. Dehind every two rows there is an area where you can enter to reload each dispeser

Rapid pulsars on every second layer
Each module is exactly the same as the next
As we know each dispenser has nine slots, and each slot can hold 64 arrows so 576 arrows per dispenser. Every cycle shoots 90 arrows, the lag was unbelievable but i did manage to get some nice screenshots.
Our arrows will blot out the sun!
Then we will fight in the shade
And this is the aftermath no I did not fire off all 51840 arrows, but you get the idea!.

Yeah this also happened to me when I rode my cart off a cliff then hit land and when I destroyed it I also got two minecarts. I tried to replicate it but I couldn't, but i don't think the water effects it cause mine was onto land!
