So, I'm building a small bridge to connect these floating islands I've made, but I can't seem to think of any ways to make it look more interesting. I would love some help in making it look nicer. Keep in mind that I'm not able to use creative-only blocks.
Yes, I know I'm in Creative mode in the picture, but that was just for the purpose of flying up and taking a picture.
Recently, I have come to realization that it may be time to retire my laptop. It's old and it can't manage to keep up with what I love doing most: Minecraft. Even with FPS enhancing mods like Optifine, I can only get about 20 FPS on Tiny render distance. Aside from Minecraft, the battery life is decreasing more and more; it can barely stay on for more than an hour. So, fellow Minecrafters, I ask: What would be a good laptop to purchase to replace this old one? I'd prefer something under $1,000 as I can't be spending too much at the moment.

and another issue is , I am not very computer savvy .reading you guys doing all that mod stuff etc, will take me awhile to get there. but did want to ask you folks. I have the 1.2.5 . the worlds on here are either all jungle no coal, iron. or lots of sand m=no wood, plenty of food. one of them almost all cobble and gravel no food. or all jungle and trees.. I tried to plant a seed from one iof the tutorials . those worlds were different from the tutorials. I have a lot to learn but it is fun anyway.. one of them either the terrain did not load or it is just all water and one tiny little island surrounded by water no foliage or treess at all, I think it just did not load, but I got that one twice.
how do you fix the render setting? and what is that? the weather here is either fog or some snow at night. don't see the sun, the sky just gets dark all at once, have no clue where the sun is.
The render setting can be found by pressing Esc>Options>Video Settings>Render Distance. Your render distance is basically how far you'll be able to see before your view is obscured by fog. Fog isn't weather in Minecraft.
I tend to switch my pick since I never have a slot open to switch to my hands. I feel like most people try to avoid items that would have right-clicking functions.
Well, it's difficult to try to explain. You and I should both know that the only sense that we can use in the design of things in Minecraft is sight. However, air isn't exactly a very visual thing, so the main sense people use to feel air is usually touch. Creating a visual representation of something you mostly feel involves a degree abstractness and should try invoke the "touch" of air.
Now, I didn't put much time into it, but I tried to make a decent model for you to go off of. The fence posts kind of give a feeling of still air; unmoving. Honestly, it's hard for me to explain. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I actually think sand is a very "airy" block. Like the feel of a desert stretching for miles.
Or you could go with the other ideas and create a background similar or symbolizing the sky and add some blocks in. I think fence posts could create an interesting look.

I was indeed planning an arch actually! Either out of more stone bricks or maybe fences along with some glowstone.
Do you have any comments on the bridge itself though? I feel like too much of it is made of stone bricks.
I'm a little confused at what you're trying to say. Could you elaborate?

That one looks pretty good! Unless someone finds a better option, I think I'll be going for that.

I kinda' agree with him on the water actually. Maybe some lily pads and accents with the lighter woods could help give it some substance.

You're welcome.
Mind posting a pic of how your hub looks when you're done? I''d love to see it.

I'd also love to see deserts and plains get more content.
