Aaand gone for far too long again.

    Endstone, testing something new:

And pistons, the noteblock, and the jukebox. Also, a sort of modern DJ station.

And I made this massive image for my desktop, based on the theme of the endstone texture I made above!

The endstone is actually almost a year old by now, I made it as a private texture for SMP's Revival.

You should probably buff some of these a bit; they don't seem very noticeable.

And some of them are straight buffs to stats, instead of extra behaviors.

posted a message on How Do You Make yourself OP on your Minecraft LAN Multiplayer Server

If you mean the server is run by your school via another computer, you would have to access that computer, go to the console program, and /op yourself from the console, while /deopping everybody else.

This would have the consequences of blatantly giving away who had gone and done that, since your username is unique and it would obviously be whoever had been opped.

The solution to that issue is to randomly op 5-6 other people as well, to throw off anybody looking for the person who had done it.

This is morally wrong, though. :3

If you mean the server is run by way of the Start LAN Server button in the main menu, then everybody either is or is not an OP.

The goal should to be to not just be better than Trove, but also to be a good texture pack for Minecraft. This kind of style may look nice in a game like that, but here it looks bland and flat.

If you want to make a good-looking simple pack, shading, patterns, and good colors are your best, and some of your only friends. Virtually every simple pack out there (including OcD, practically the original simple pack, and that has it's own style that's harder to describe) has a unique or colorful palette that compliments the patterns, which in turn require good use of shading in order to look good. There's a lot more to this than it may appear.

Also, you should really only have one or two shader images in your pack and only if you have photos of ordinary Minecraft. Most people don't use custom shaders, and it's something of a form of lying about how good your pack actually looks.

Here, I took the above 'flat' grass block, chose some colors, and made it look better:

    And here it is tiled:

Obviously, it's not the best, and could use a lot of work, but it's much better to look at than the flat colors alone.

And finally: Good enough for Planet Minecraft ≠ Excuse for laziness. Planet Minecraft does not have very high standards in my experience, and just because you met the lowest common denominator does not mean you should stop pushing higher. If you really want to make a good Minecraft texture pack, then you don't stop pushing until it's at least better than the default textures.

hrmm.. me thinks villagers should be hobbits!

But hobbits are generally shorter than humans, and villagers are just as tall as humans...

posted a message on What would you rate as the most useful potion in Non-PVP survival

I don't actually usually use potions; blazes are very easy to kill if you have a good weapon and armor, though I have a lot of combat experience from CTM maps. The only ones I use with any sort of frequency are health potions, and even then not commonly.

I'd carry around several resistance potions if they were in a vanilla potion, though.

Tall grass, gravel, and the large chest!

Also, a custom skin I made for myself!

I might redo the gravel later on.

So, I just played through the map five times over. I'm pretty sure I can speedrun it while only making three or four errors, now. Upon examination of the shadows and the way the blocks work, I'm doubly impressed at the effort you put into it. WTG man.

I also discovered quite a few unused areas hiding behind some doors, especially in the earlier buildings. Levels that didn't quite make it into the flow, perhaps?

posted a message on Backing up newer worlds

Minecraft should back up worlds if you load them with a version earlier than that world was created in. For example, if you load a 1.8 map in 1.7 or 1.6, it would produce a .zip file with the world before loading in it, called [worldname]_[number of backup].

If you've ever loaded a WIP map in an earlier version, or damaged a world by opening it without the right mods enabled, this would help a lot.

posted a message on What are three of the most redundant suggestion topics you've seen? (Very good for critics)

This thread actually gave me a brilliant idea. Have Minecraft back up worlds when you load them with a version earlier than what the last used version for the world was, or if five or more blocks that don't exist in vanilla exist in the world.

If you've ever loaded a WIP map in an earlier version, or damaged a world by opening it without the right mods enabled, this would help a lot.
