I'm not sure what the trouble is for you guys. Make sure
    1. You're in an area that's been generated sometime AFTER the last update
    2. You're looking more than 30 blocks below sea level
    3. Caves seem to be better at yielding cuprite than strip mines or tunnels

    This.

Creating a 15x15 hole wont help, just dig a spiral stair case like ive suggested, thats a staircase thats 2x2, if you reach a cave too high up and see no red ore, keep digging the stairs down, if you reach the bottom and no natural caves with red ore, climb back up the stairs and walk about 30 blocks in any direction and try again.

I was about 10 blocks from the spawn point and dug down in a spiral staircase and the first cave I came across(30+ blocks deep) had over 3 stacks worth of red ore, this was in a world generated after the patch however.

Oh and 2x2 staircase for reference:

Ah, thank you. I've only just recently read through the circuitry and gates articles on the Wiki, so I'm still getting used to the intricacies.

Yeah, due to limited icons on the forum, generally assume that a torch next to a block means the torch gets attached to the block, the minecraft screenshots in those threads should clarify things a little(especially check the awesome wiki page Samonite did: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Cuprite_circuits)

You have to invert one of the doors.
    Like this:

    :Red: [] [] [] [] :Red:
:Red: :Red: :stair: :stair: :Red: :Red:

What is the stone? Nothing? Will the circuit connect across a 1 block gap like that?

its a block that the torch is attached to, in order to invert the signal sent(an ON input would cause anything behind an inverter to be OFF, and vice versa)

Also, Notch did mention about restructuring things a little so things can be done in tighter space in a twitter post about his 7-bit...thing(I forget)

Edit: I made all the logic gates in the wiki. If you got any questions about them just ask :wink.gif:

Wont that just cause 1 door to open while the other is closed? Or is this another one of those things I will be proven wrong on again? :tongue.gif:

I did something similar (only less efficient, used three red torches). Why do the wires have to run

    :brick: [] [] [] [] :brick:
:brick: :brick: :stair: :stair: :brick: :brick:

    Instead of:
    :brick: [] [] :brick:
    :brick: :stair: :stair: :brick:

The main reason I made it like that is because quite often if you run parallel the door, it wont trigger it, you have to lead into the door/most things.
I could have just lead it straight to the door instead of to the side, but I designed it more so you can build it underground and completely hidden(though an upright torch can transmit up through 1 block aswell)

I guess you could use And gates and switches to be able to change the combo, but I still have to work out how to make a combo with buttons while allowing button repeats. I'll try some designs and see what I come up with.

The best I came up with was a 2 button on/off for a red torch, using a "NOR Gate SR Flip-flop"
    http://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/seq ... seq_1.html

Essentially the set/reset button turns a single torch on/off, the other output doesn't lead anywhere, though before I "Finalized" the current setup I used the flip-flop to have 1 button activate a light and turn the other light off, and the other button to turn that light off and turn the other one on.
Would be neat to use in multiple rooms, you enter the room, press the button, room lights up, go to another room, press the button, room lights up etc.
But all I wanted to do is create a single toggle button, without using a lever, but I could not find a way to do it with less then 2 buttons, oh well :SSSS:

Sorry there is some part hidden, but its just a straight wire coming from the bottom switch, and comes up to the flip-flop through the visible hole, so the main mechanics are all visible

If any of you people who cannot find the red stuff is still digging out their own tunnels near the surface(or in a pre-update chunk) rather then finding a nice deep(30+) natural cave, I swear to Notch I will....do....something....something

Do this: choose a location on the surface, any location inside of a new chunk, dig out a spiral staircase straight down until you find a natural cave at least 30 blocks below the surface, if you dont immediately find red ore within the first 3 "rooms", try another location and start over again, and if you are in an old world, keep walking further as you might not have got to a new chunk yet.

As for what it looks like, it looks like iron/coal/gold, except its red and glows when you strike it, also, dont forget you need at least an iron pickaxe.

I think I covered every possible thing to getting the red powder?

The middle switch gets blocked no matter what the side inputs do, its just the toggling the side levers just cause that side to turn on/off(NOT/inverter)

I don't know what you did wrong, but my model worked perfectly.

I...don't know what I did wrong either, I had to rebuild the middle part since I left it the other way that I posted when I finished, but now it does seem to behave the same way as in your screenshots...yet I swear before it wasnt lighting up the far powder, and am fairly certain I connected it properly.....I think its sleepy times now

I think it's really hard to find. I've found roughly 30 samples in a week of gameplay. I'd say iron is about 10 times as common.

You have been playing with a couple day old update for a week?
Also, I found 3 stacks within 30 minutes after digging a spiral staircase down to a fairly deep cave, thats over 190 of the red powder

Decided I would quickly jump in and try this anyway
    [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []
    [] [] :Green: [] [] :Green: [] [] :Green: [] []
    [] [] :Red: [] [] :Red: [] [] :Red: [] []
[] :Red: :Red: [] :Red: :Red: :Red: [] :Red: :Red: []
    [] :Red: [] [] :Red: [] :Red: [] [] :Red: []
    [] :Red: :Red: :cobblestone: :--+: [] :--+: :cobblestone: :Red: :Red: []
    [] [] [] [] :Red: [] :Red: [] [] [] []
    [] [] [] [] :Black: [] :Black: [] [] [] []
    [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []

The middle switch gets blocked no matter what the side inputs do, its just the toggling the side levers just cause that side to turn on/off(NOT/inverter)

So I tried changing it to this:
    [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []
    [] :Green: [] [] [] :Green: [] [] [] :Green: []
    [] :Red: [] [] :Red: :Red: :Red: [] [] :Red: []
    [] :Red: [] [] :Red: [] :Red: [] [] :Red: []
[] :Red: :Red: :Red: :cobblestone: [] :cobblestone: :Red: :Red: :Red: []
    [] [] [] [] :--+: [] :--+: [] [] [] []
    [] [] [] [] :Red: [] :Red: [] [] [] []
    [] [] [] [] :Black: [] :Black: [] [] [] []
    [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []

But all it really did was make it let the sides toggle their torch on and off, and the middle one toggled both on and off, if both sides are on, toggling the middle does nothing, with one side on, toggling the middle simply turns the other side on/off, and both off lets the middle toggle them both on/off, not quite sure if thats what you were after or not, but thats what seems to happen

I predict the middle part will cause the torches to burn out, or remain forever on, since they connect to eachother through the top part of the middle

The torches wont burn out because its not a loop.

2 torches can touch each other without any problems. Watch this gate:
    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Cupri ... #NAND_gate

Oh right, why do I keep forgetting torches need to transmit through a block to be able to do that? Oh well, they might not burn out, though im still not sure that will work as is, still the more people sciencing the better :biggrin.gif:

posted a message on Minecart Ladders
Well actually, ladders = wood only, 1 harvested wood = 4 planks which in turn = 16 sticks which is enough for 2 ladders
Wood is infinite since you can just replant trees, and very easy to chop down, also, trees are everywhere in a much higher density then any ore.
In short: ladders are dirt cheap
