Sorry, I'll edit my post after this. I wasn't really clear when I read through it again. I want to be able to do this under the floor. I don't like to have wires showing. ;3
Also, rather than opening / closing a door, I'm actually looking to be able to have a light source be turned on / off from a distance. I have a small attic / monster spawning area that is pitch black further in the back, and I'd like to have some sort of switch that I can activate from my safe room that will allow me to see inside.
Well the principal is the same, I have, however, just recently done exactly that, having a light turn on when a touchpad is down and off otherwise, essentially what I had to do was this:
Except the torch on the far right is simply placed on the stone block underneith, and not on the side of a block, ill grab some pictures of my setup it might make things clearer
Edit: ^ oh god the blocks dont line up D:
Replaced with to be the redstone powder
Edit2: Still didn't help, ill just grab some screenshots
Edit3:
Had to rework the touchpad to work for a lever, here is my setup:
Reworked to use a toggle lever:
Just had to have the powder beside the block the lever is on, instead of below, since the lever wont toggle stuff below it
And here is the rest of the system:
With the red torch up top being the visible alert light
One thing though, as far as using the red torches as light goes, they dont emit anywhere near as much as the regular torches, but you could split the path in the last screenshot and have multiple torches underneith and above, like so:

Every time I go to my cave, which is across some water, there is a small group of sheep and pigs living out on the other side, and underneith is a cave full of zombies, since every time I pass by I can hear them below the sand
Gotten used to the sounds now though, but the problem is I have no monsters on the surface D: Cant wait for the update so I can have my monsters back
Pirates have kannonz, muskets, blunderbusses, swords and boats
Ninjas have........Chains with sticks? Can't swim. No protection. Wears barely anything......
Ninjas CAN RUN ON THE DAMN WATER!
They don't need no stinking boats.
And honestly, I hope the update isn't boats, just so everyone gets their hopes up, and then we get something cool to play around with(like redstone...)
It is kind of situational, but I generally follow the same pattern
Chop down a tree, collect a sapling to replace tree, build a workbench and make a pickaxe, pick up workbench and find surface coal, dig out the coal and some stone, then create some stone pickaxes, shovel and axe(usually build a sword at this point aswell), then I chop down trees, replacing them with saplings, until my axe breaks, then I move on to do whatever else.
I never mark the spawn, but if I travel from my spawn I usually create a series of lightposts, visible from the spawn, then visible to the next lightpost etc (I have a decent sense of direction on the surface so if I dont have any coal near the spawn I will go back to setup a lightpost)
for something that senses burrowing, couldnt you just make a wire on a wall, and when the burrow it would break the wire, which in turn sets something off?
Currently that would be the only way to do it, unless water still washes the powder away, either way its still powder being destroyed
I hit upon a huge cave when they first came in i thought it was going to be a common occurrence. Haven't found another one since, just crappy dead enders.
Yeah same, infact, ive dug out 3 massive shafts right to the bottom of the map(I have finally seen a hole in the world! yay! And no I did not fall through it as I dont dig below me, and I had to hunt to actually find a hole)
But as of yet ive not found any massive caves, even digging through the cave dirt/gravel hasnt given me more then another small dead end cave(with lava though!)
The upside though, I now have a 2x2 staircase directly from my base, and then a few blocks over I have a 5x5 staircase down to the same point, which I will use to mine sideways now in hopes of finding any caves.
Honestly, I have never really done farming until now, I really love the multiple level farms, I will have to try that sometime, however, this does me just fine, and creates more wheat then I can eat anyway, infact right now I have 40+ wheat in my chests, and every single block in there is ready to be harvested again, but I wont until I start using the wheat more.
Honestly, I did not mean, visually :tongue.gif:
I ment 2 sheep, over time, would spawn more sheep, since they are now persistant, it makes sense, and if you kill every single sheep in an area, leaving nothing living behind, something else will spawn there until thats also killed...granted, something else might spawn if I kill the sheep, but ive not tried it yet, im down to like 2 sheep left anyway, might do that soon, kill the last 2 and see what happens
It'd be great to be mining some iron and you hear some really strange sounds coming from the darkness. .you throw a torch up and you see a sheep banging a pig in the ass! Then you whip out your saddle and things get REALLY crazy! WOOOOO BABYYY yeaaaaa..
Hey, did you know pigs have a cork-screw shaped penis ? YOU DO NOW!! AMIRITE?! HAHAHHAHhhhh
Is everyones water monster traps still working? The ones that just suck monsters and sheep down into the water without relying on an overhang to prevent them from swimming up? Ive been trying to recreate one in my new game, doesnt work, so I remade it to exact dimensions as the original creator(the only version ive managed to get working), yet the sheep still just bob up and down on the surface until they manage to fight the current and jump out.
I had it working in a previous world but now I just cant get something that works :/
We really need a stronger down current or something more predictable anyway, unless someone has a secret of water science and wishes to share?
Honestly, sheep behave better in the new patch, they will stand there for a bit, just staring into your SOUL, not to mention they seem to be persistant now, ive spent dozens of nights and days now, my sheep numbers are dwindling(mainly because I keep killing them), and its still the same wooless sheep I punched when I first started the world.
Next comes grass eating and regrowing wool, maybe even repopulation
