EDIT: Format tags aren't working, I don'[t know why and I really don't want to spend the effort on working it out :/

As useful and huge as MCForums is, I have to say that they have one of the worst post-editing code I've seen...

EDIT2: Does the name Diamond Sword Online have anything to do with SAO?

    Name?: ShaoLinAstantos

    Age?: 21

    Skype?: ShaoLinAstantos

The position you're applying for?: Gameplay Designer (but I can help with lorewriting)

    Timezone?: GMT+10 (Sydney)

Talk about your past experiences as a (Role you're applying for):
I've worked on designing servers before, both RPG servers and minigame servers. In fact I was part of a Skype Group for a server (a work in progress) only a few days ago until the project was cancelled (apparently some argument between the owner and co-owner :/ ).

Tell us about yourself and your capabilities as a (Role you're applying for):
I'm actually studying Game Design in University right now, and am a huge fan of lore-driven RPGs. I've designed my own games, naturally, as part of my course (nothing published, of course). Having played, looked at, and helped design a wide variety of games and mechanics for multiple game types and purposes, I'd be well suited to adapt what resources are available for a specific game type. My obsession with lore-driven RPGs (Skyrim, Fallout 4 <3) also mean that not only am I familiar with both the good and bad sides of those types of games - and those games especially - but I'm also quite familiar with their style of lore. I've also written stories and lore in the past, as well as a tutor in Creative Writing, so I'd be very much interested in doing some lore writing for a server as well.

    [LORE WRITER]

Portfolio: Sorry, I don't really have anything saved atm. I'd be happy to write you something on request, if you want to see my style.

Types of writing style that you excel in (Narrative, Persuasive, Descriptive etc.):
I am best at writing narratives (especially ones with a bit of a historical point of view) and am well versed in writing up various descriptions for pretty much everything that might be needed in an RPG.
    [LORE WRITER]

    [GAMEPLAY DESIGNER]

How long have you been a Gameplay Designer?: I'm nearing the end of my course, so about 3 years studying Game Design properly, but I've pretty much always designed games. I've only designed a few Minecraft specific mini-games thought.

What have you accomplished as a Gameplay Designer?:
Not entirely certain what type of response you're expecting here. I've designed a fully functional resource-based card game. I've worked on a variety of games using Stealth as the main mechanic. I've also planned out several PvP based minecraft minigames in the past.

Do you have any past experience worth mentioning as a Gameplay Designer?:

Nothing Minecraft related comes to mind, and not anything I haven't already mentioned I think . . .
    [GAMEPLAY DESIGNER]

Are you willing to dedicate an ample amount of your time and effort to contribute to DSO?
Sure, I put in a lot of effort in projects that I believe are worth it, and projects have a definite goal and end. I spend most of my time at my computer, so I'm available for large periods of time.

posted a message on Medival RP server looking for Builders and Moderators

Quick question: How complete is this server/how confident are you that this will actually be released properly?

    Name: [---]

    Age: 18+

Skype: ShaoLinAstantos (I usually have skype OFF since its been ages since I've used it. I can leave it on if I need to, naturally)

    Minecraft Name: ShaoLinAstantos

Why are you good at moderating/Do you have moderating experience?:

I haven't played Minecraft in a long, long time actually, so this is me kinda wanting to get back into it. I've been across many many servers, from minigames to survival, to roleplay. I've been mod on a few, and actually was Co-Owner (although really more like project manager?) on another server that never managed to reach release.

Am I good at moderating? Well that really depends on where and how you set your criteria. I'm older than most people who play of course (why am I doing with my life . . .). I reckon I'm a pretty calm and reasonable guy, and in a game where a large portion of the work lies in keeping harmony among an online community, that's pretty important. Apart from that, this is a really open ended question that I imagine will generate a lot of "I'm a good mod becus i am really matur" type responses, so I'm not quite sure what else to say. You could always shoot me a message if you want to ask me something in particular about myself.

More importantly, I think, I'm someone who is coming back to this game because I felt like making something. I'm currently at Uni, of course, and studying Games Design (and yes, that involves exactly what it sounds like it involves :) ). Naturally, I am therefore in the process of learning programming - specifically Java. I haven't touched Minecraft stuff before, but if you need a [slow] someone who can [probably] work things out either configuration or programming something simple, then I could be the right person (but I make no promises). I'm not actually sure how hard it will be since from what little I saw so far of plugin programming, it seems much more complex than making a program from scratch (but then again, that's always the case).

By the way, I reckon I'm a pretty decent builder of medieval style structures, if I do say so myself. I'd be happy to help out the building.

How long will you be on?

Depends on what I'm doing - in life, on a Server such as this. If there's something that actually needs to be done, I can spend at least two hours a day. Now, if you asked me how long I spend on the computer - 10 hours, 12 hours? Too much, in any case lol

Why do you want to moderate on this server?

I'm a huge player of RPGs - Runescape, TERA (now there's an interesting game . . . ), Skyrim, Fallout, etc. There aren't many successful minecraft RPGs that actually get off on their feet (hence my opening question). Also -an RPG server is usually pretty calm, so I can spend most of my time (if needed) just helping the community. Also it gives me time to work on any projects (such as building or maybe coding?) that I may need to be doing.

    Timezone? +10 (Sydney)

posted a message on Zombie Apocalypse Survival With Limited Resources!

    Hey guys!

Let me tell you a story.

So the other day, I was on Steam, and found a 'new' game called H1Z1. Actually the game style is so interesting, and the game is so well designed, it would probably have become my favourite game, except for one thing: the lag. I thought to myself, if I can't play this game, which is a terrible shame, can I try making my own, possibly on Minecraft?

And so this idea was born. I want to make a similar game, on Minecraft, which is less graphics intensive, and so people can play it without lagging (I'm in Australia, and trying to play the H1Z1 American servers is impossible). If this is something you'd like to see and be part of, please keep reading!

    H1Z1 Brief Overview

    Zombie Survival

So the basic premise is that the world had ended, zombie apocalypse etc. What's interesting is that unlike most (actually ALL, at least from what I've seen) zombie games, this isn't a one man army go in kill everything type scenario. Instead, its a sandbox game.

    - Resources are limited

    - Survivors aren't overpowered

    - Stuff can be found in houses, destroyed cars, towns etc - if you can kill the zombies that are probably close by - the

larger the population center, the more zombies.

    - Make a base, protect it with walls, grow your own food, collect dew for drinking water and more

It's somewhat more complex than that, of course. Here's how I imagine it might work in Minecraft:

    - You can't break blocks. This is because, as a survivor (and a human) you're not about to punch a brick wall down, unless you've studied martial arts your entire life. I've studied for half my life, and I can't do it.

    - Resources can be found in buildings. E.g. food, tools, weapons

    - You can chop trees, ONLY if you have an axe

    - Seeds are available only by finding them in buildings (getting seeds from grass is too easy)

    - Everything is craftable - the thing is, you can't craft unless you have a stick, and you can't chop trees without an axe.

    - If you don't eat, you will starve to death (duh)

    - Breaking walls is extremely hard (and possibly can only be done with a special tool?) - that said, if you DO manage to do it, you can grief and steal.

    - If you leave a chest in the open, the stuff inside can be stolen. You must protect it with a base that has a locked door (that is, a wooden door with a password or maybe iron door?)

    - and other similarly veined minor tweaks

Does this sound like something you're interested in? Since you're still reading I'll assume it is :) In that case, if you'd like to help me, I'm looking for the following types of people:

    Developer/Programmer/Techie Guy (lol)

Since there are so many tweaks, this is not something server perms can do (although I know nothing about perms OR developing). I need someone(s) that can make these tweaks! You also would preferably be able to manage plugins (set up world border, perms etc) so I don't have to find someone else who can do it :)

Name: IGN or Real Name, I don't mind

Skype: Only way I have of contacting people at the moment, other than e-mail

Age: You know, like...your age. What else can I say?

Experience: You don't have to have worked for X server, done Y number of plugins etc, just know how to do these tweaks, and know what you're doing.

Anything else you want to add:

    Builders!

The world will be indestructible and limited, so I'll need builders to populate the world with towns, bridges, farm houses, etc

Name: IGN or Real Name, I don't mind

Skype: Only way I have of contacting people at the moment, other than e-mail

    Age:

Experience: Post pics, or just make a quick build. We aren't going to be in multimillion dollar mansions, these are

simple houses, flats, supply stations (old fashioned equivalent of Service Station) etc

Anything else you want to add:

I have no doubt that I'll need a lot of other types of helpers later on, but these two are naturally the most important and what I would actually need to get started. For anyone living in America and has a good computer, I do recommend you check out the actual H1Z1 however, its at: https://www.h1z1.com/home

Hey guys! So I was on Steam the other day, and came across a 'new' game - H1Z1! It really is amazing and would probably be my favourite game, but for one thing: the lag. I thought, if I can't play the actual game, maybe I could try making my own?

I really do recommend you check out the actual H1Z1, especially if you're in America with a good Rig. If this sounds like something you might want to see in Minecraft, keep reading!

    How it will work:
    - The actual H1Z1 (I'll just call it Game, shall I) works on the basis of a zombie apocalypse. Resources are limited! Survivors must make do with what is left over in abandoned houses, towns, cars and so forth.

    - They can kill each other, or they can work together

    - fresh resources, such as water and food, must be collected or grown

    - Naturally, there are zombies. Naturally, they try to kill you.

How I imagine it might work on a Minecraft Server:

    - In the Game, you can't just go around blowing up houses or knocking down walls. On a MC server, this would be pretty easy - just protect the entire world / not give players permission to go destroying things.

    - Resources are limited - so food, tools and so forth can be placed in houses, cars and so forth.

    - Restrict hostile mobs to Zombie only, somehow

    - population centres have more zombies! In the Game my PC actually froze because a) there were too many zombies, and B) my PC is terrible :S

    - trees may be chopped down, but ONLY if you have the right tools - i.e. axe. You'll need the wood to make just about everything.

    - You cannot get seeds from ripping out grass (that's too easy). Seeds will be rare, and can be found in buildings.

    - zombies spawn all over the world, constantly - Not sure how this may be done so that an area won't have too many zombies, and the time will probably have to permanently be night.

    - And many other minor~ish tweaks!

If you're still reading, I'll assume you're interested? In that case, I'm looking for help to try and make this thing work! I'll need to following types of people :)

    - Developer/Plugin Writer - I think this is pretty obvious lol

This map is amazing, I love it! I especially liked how suited to the situation the music was, and it faded in and out. The designs of the buildings were simple, but very functional and still looks great, especially with the resource pack. The best part of you build in my opinion is how everything fits together. The atmosphere you created was awesome, and at times could really get my pulse up :D.

Of course, for me, the story has to be the best part of it. As a writer myself, I absolutely loved the story you put together, it is one of the best adventure map stories I have every seen. Even the wording of the signs seems to be well thought out, and adds to the map, rather than taking away from the immersiveness. The two endings were superb, and I'm glad I got the first ending (although honestly, I 'got' the second ending too, naturally lol :P). Its nice to see so much plot driven gameplay as opposed to endless puzzles and a million never ending mobs (although the spiders were a bit too numerous and annoying since they came from spawners haha).

I started making a while back, and while I would love to say that you were the reason I decided to make a map, you weren't, sorry. ^_^ Your map is really inspiring, however, and while I don't know nearly enough tips and tricks to make mine the same quality, I'll aim for it...

I noticed that your map doesn't have a lot of command blocks, but it worked out perfectly in the end and really added to the map. For some reason, I've never considered using LESS commandblocks, only more :O. Kudos on an amazing map!

I have to stay I'm still kind of bathing in the afterglow of the ending...I do have ONE criticism however. You mention that enderchests can be used to store books and notes, which is nice but I ended up with at least 1.5 inventories of story things. As a completionist, I really don't want to throw anything out, which was kinda annoying after I filled up the enderchest -_-.

Since I'm a novice, I was wondering if you could tell me a few things? :P

What did you use command blocks for apart from music, and how did you set them up? What commands did you use, what set ups generally?

How did you do your music and get it to play that well?

5.) Write us a story or quest about a person ect. (150 words)?

    >> I got better: http://telesticraft.wikia.com/wiki/Telesticraft_Wiki
    >> This was a RPG server's wiki that I wrote (all of it) and has many samples of my background lore on Races, Religion and History. Most of it is unfinished because the project was abandoned by the Owner - he tried to do to many things, combining with other servers, combining ideas etc and it just didn't work out, because he didn't have a clear focus.

6.) How often can you be available to write?

    >> I write whenever and where ever, so basically every day. Usually at home, but I might decide to write up something during Uni, on the bus, etc. I'm that sort of person lol.

7.) Why should we choose you?

    >> I have a lot of experience writing in-depth and quality lore - as the wiki shows, I do consider factors such as history, language and religion, all of which are related because, in a real-life scenario, they would be.

8.) Are you a relatively fast writer?

    >> Given how much time (potentially) I can spend on writing, yes. I'm also rarely short for ideas, because of my experience as a writer (not just lore) and as an English Tutor (private tutoring, tax free big bucks).

9.) Anything else you would like to add?

    >> Check out the wiki! It was, unfortunately, one of the only things that was going right with the last server I worked with. If you need something specific, like a piece about a particular subject, then feel free to skype or e-mail me at my "spam" e-mail (so that I don't have to reveal my work one), which is [email protected].

    >> I work best with relatively free reign creation wise - because of how connected my lore is, I need to have the pieces connected up. I say this because my work within someone else's lore would likely be slower in coming, and unavoidably lesser in quality due to the detail I can put in.

    >> I'm also a fervent supporter of grandiose, lore-friendly architecture. If you have builders, that would be great, because, in my opinion, having the actual concept there goes a long way to help writers (regardless of whether I'm on your team or not, this is just a general point). So, in case you were interested, these are some of the things I came up with, and yeah, they were all built by me using world-edit - as I said, the last server I was on wasn't the most successful.

So couldn't upload last two images, so here

4.) How important is this to you? I would love to create an entire lore filled world such as an RPG. I've been looking a long time for servers that are dedicated to such projects, but they have a tendency to falter, so there hasn't been much luck there.

5.) Any past experience in this field or something similar? I've written lore for other servers. They faltered, which is why I now try to get a good feel servers and how committed they are before helping out. I've also designed minigames and RPGs before - once again, these were only ever theoretical at best, given the lack of commitment on the servers I've worked with. I can't establish my own server, I know next to nothing about what that entails unfortunately.

    7.) Describe your personality:

Actually now that I try to answer this question I have no idea what to say. . .I love writing, especially lore and creating complex (but understandable) links between names that I mention and their fictional history (basically, I try to emulate the depth of lore behind Lord of the Rings). I play League of Legends, and practice martial arts, yet I'm actually quite relaxed. Oh I know - here's a word for my personality - cynical :). Doesn't come out in my writing though, only in actual conversations I have.

    8.) Do you always type/speak with proper/fluent English/grammar?

Well I consider my self a decent writer, but feel free to look at my samples and judge for yourself!

8.) Why should we pick you?

Pure skill. No? I've got a lot of experience with this kind of thing (which is unfortunate actually, as it says quite a lot about how many projects I've seen start and fail ). I used to write fanfiction, and I've watched (in hours) 1/3 of a year worth of anime - while this isn't as much as some people, I only watch the highest rated shows which have the most moving stories and lore - honestly, I don't really see how anyone can completely refute this statement even if you don't like anime. I've also read Lord of the Rings (4 times), Harry Potter (more times than I could count when I was younger, I actually think the series isn't that well written now), the Eragon Series (of which only the first book was satisfactory. . . ah well) and many other less well known, but no less lore-intensive novels. If you want another reason, then I guess it would be because I'm the guy that can produce a limitless amount of quality content for you lore-wise, usually in only a short time - my working time is usually 1-2 days maximum for a hashed out idea, the actual writing takes longer, naturally.

10.) Anything else you would like to add?

Detail. I pay a lot of attention detail in my work, and if you've read my samples you'll have seen this. I create names just like any writer, but I try to make mine logical and in line with the language - which itself I aim to make as believable as possible. People, places, events, principles of the world (e.g. magical laws) - all of these are not just mentioned and forgotten in my writing, but connected like a long epic.

Hey Guys, its Astantos here! I am currently in development of an RPG server add-on to an existing Factions server! We plan to use the Betonquests plugin, as well as Mythic Mobs, but what we really need now are builders! Someone is currently using world-painter to create a world for the RPG - that will be done soon. For now, building will mostly take place in the factions world, where custom dungeons, possibly with questlines, will begin to be constructed in preparation for their implementation into the RPG. These dungeons will be released to players on the Faction server temporarily on a one by one basis. If this sounds like your thing, feel free to apply!

    BUILDER APPLICATION - Format

    NAME/IGN:

AGE: [Note this will not directly impact anything, but will be considered in conjunction with other details]

EXPERIENCE: [Please note, the dungeons will be, well, dungeon like, but eventually, cities and buildings will be varied and race dependant (i.e. Humans, Dwarves etc)]

SAMPLES OF YOUR WORK: [Pictures will be preferred, otherwise we can have you do a build test.]

WORKING WITH RPG: [How much experience do you have with making not just dungeons, but possibly scripted dungeons? Why do you want to work on an RPG project? How good are you with building other people's (lore-friendly) designs]

I will be contacting some of you shortly regarding the terraforming and the building process, as soon as I finalise some other things such as the project manager and so forth (I have contacted my selection, so expect some news in the next 1-2 days hopefully).

Well you be looking for Moderators?

At this moment, we are not looking for any of the usual server based staff because nothing has been decided or built yet.

There's a huge lack of information in this project, nothing is explained of how it works what is it about.

Unfortunately, I can't post more specific information such as storyline or quests. However, I can tell you that the server will be released in portions, each portion bringing more content and more lore, as well as expansions to the map. Furthermore, (if anyone can remember the old Battleon Adventure Quest days), there will be events at set intervals (e.g. monthly) that will have a visible impact on the other parts of the server (such as wars, important NPC's dying, and so forth). There will also be factions, some of which players can join, some which are not joinable for Lore reasons - these factions aren't just limited to class or race, but other factors as well (e.g. if there was a merchant class, then there can definitely be a Dwarven merchant as well as a Human one).

That is why I'm looking for good plugin developers and strong build teams for this project.
