I walk around barefoot all the time, and my feet have some lovely calluses due to that. Also, my hands are getting calluses on them from HARD, MANLY WORK.
YO.
Sorry man, but everyone bought it in Beta. This means everyone would get capes, and they wouldn't be special anymore.
So I suggest milestones that really matter, like playing before indev.
I've seen the birth of indev, the birth of infdev. Back then, I was just playing creative and people just popped into indev now and then as a little diversion. How it's grown.
I kind of miss indev maps- there was something nice about having a little space where you KNEW where everything was, where everything was finite and the whole thing wasn't a slideshow, framerate-wise. I miss changing the settings to an Island map with a tiny size and being deep, so I would spawn on a map about thirty or fifty blocks across.
Those were the days when I actually enjoyed playing Minecraft. Now it's lost its spirit, somehow.
I miss it.
I hate to sound negative, but what she says is rational. By no means should you stop pursuing your dreams- do what you love. But she just wants you to have no regrets if you do, by some chance, fail. She's telling you the truth- fame isn't easy to come by, and it's really difficult to get by with jobs like this sometimes. But if you do try hard and commit yourself, you will have success.
Just tell her that you know the risks and are willing to take them to pursue what you love doing. If she still says it's a bad idea, then yes, she is a jerk.
Actually, nobody had to say it. In fact, you could've not said it and left this thread as an intelligent conversation free of idiocy.
But no. You had to go and post some stupid meme, didn't you? Well, I hope you're happy. You monster.
Good to know that there's somebody on these forums who thinks rationally about making games. Experience really helps ground one's view, and you seem to have some of it. That's good.
My opinions are similar- start small. REALLY small. You won't be making the next Minecraft anytime soon or even in your entire career. Keep the scope of your game small so you can handle it. Make a game yourself before asking others to work with you. Become a part of a community, they can be really helpful.

Would you like this to happen? No, I didn't think so.
