That would freak the hell out of me. I think it is a great idea! The depths need to be more foreboding.

Reminds me a bit of the Shrieks from Dragon Age.

[Joke] They drop leg joints, which let the player run faster. [/joke]
How a bout implementing a bit of behavior I thought would be fun in a mob but since nobody reads my stuff i can't get into the world; When you hit it it flees for three seconds before resuming its attack. Picture this: You've become lost in a massive cave system, and have no supplies left but the ores you have mined. You spot daylight radiating from what you thought was a coal vein (treacherous texture pack!), and immediately start heading that way. Since you're out of torches, the way is dark and you fall into more than one hole, but as you finally approach salvation a scream echos out of the darkness behind you and as you turn you loose one heart. A pale, waist high shape greets your eyes, and you strike at it with a diamond ore. It whines loudly, and sprints back into the dark. Just when your adrenaline reaches an acceptable level it comes haring back at you. After a few rounds of this you're getting bored, so you knock it back into the dark, build a wall, and turn to go.

See how cinematic that was? Or would be if I were any good with narrative?

Also I like the idea that they retreat. Then it isn't like they run up. Swing, dead. Oh that was easy. With the retreating is plays more on the fear of the player.

In anycase, a suggestion is a suggestion. Notch can determine whether it would be too much work or not. All we need to do is determine whether we like the idea or not, and possibly expand/contract it.

Oh I didn't know you could make paper. I was also looking for some uses for Wool. Either would work.

Also added a poll. Since they are a convenient way to sum up people's thoughts on the matter.

Make your pet dragon ridable if you can get a saddle! that would be beyond enjoyable, if you could saddle up and control that bad boy, flying around the vallie like a god!

I don't think that would be a good idea. Dragons should be more formidable than that. My future dragon hunts should be a challenge :tongue.gif:

They should not be reduced to being tameable.

I don't like the idea of a flashlight, doesn't really fit.

But the telescope would be very useful.

I'd love to scale mountains and hunt dragons. Deeper depths would be cool too, but I really like the idea of higher mountains. Perhaps some rare ones could even reach into low clouds (depending on how much higher he moved the limit).

Dragons should also have some gold hoards.

But sticking to the main idea here. Greater Heigh/Depth Limits.

    :iapprove: I Agree.

posted a message on Allow Water/Lava Flow through Open Doors
It would make sense if they went through open doors. I would also suggest adding larger 3x2 (Horizontally by Vertically) Flood Gates (Sluice/Water Gates). Which raise and lower, for the expressed purpose of controlling the flow of water.

It would have to be made of iron and activated with a mechanism. Perhaps it would be a needless addition though. :/

I think it would be more interesting and fun, if you had to do it yourself. That way it is prone to human error.

Though yes that could be a possibility, though personally I would prefer no map, to that kind of map.

    Exactly! That would work too.

I just used Bolland, because I couldn't think of any better word (I googled for a word).

I know there is a tool out there which will map your Minecraft world for you. But it feels like that kind of ruins the expansiveness of the world. I'd love to be able to actively explore my world and map it myself.

And I don't mean I walk around and suddenly I have a map. (That would be auto-mapping, as in the poll above)

Now I am not entirely sure how this might be accomplished, but here are just some thoughts on how it might be done.

    Details
First off, you would need to make a canvas. This would likely be crafted using just a full 3x3 grid of wool. Alternatively paper could be used.*

Next take it with you, out into the wilds, and take a look around. Then switch to your canvas and right-click.

This would open up some kind of dialog where you could create a basic map, nothing complex. Like everything, it would probably be blocky. Perhaps a 20x20 grid, which would allow you in each square to place a water, sand, snow, or grass block. And perhaps some way to indicate that this area is a hill, that area is frozen over with ice, this region is a mountain etc. Obviously you could make the map as detailed or vague as you like and still maintain a fairly useful image.

Perhaps then you could store these in Library blocks even. It would also be cool if you could put names for the locations on the maps, but that might be a bit much.

    Additional Possibilities
I posted this idea primarily as an aid for exploration, however the maps could potentially also be placed on walls or tables, either along or alongside other maps to form larger area maps.*
It could also easily be used for creating paintings if people are so inclined.*

Seems somewhat unlikely that such a feature will be added, but I'll make the suggestion anyways. :smile.gif:
