    ENTRY 3 - WAREHOUSE

Decided I wanted some paintings in my house but couldn't find mobs anywhere. Was worried this was a bug at first until I found them all. Cooling off in a forest spring (let the murder begin!).

Got a hefty amount of food and wool from that massacre. So I headed back to base and decided I should start work on a warehouse for RAW materials as I was quickly running out of room to store all the stone from my quarry. Half way through laying out the base of the building and terraforming a bit more a creeper snuck up on me and removed my entire health bar (thank-you hard mode). Turned the far left of my backyard into a graveyard as a result...

Got back to work and finished the warehouse off though. Upon completion I didn't like how it was right next to the path I laid out so I will probably knock it down to move it one square back. The forge or "armoury" will be directly opposite this warehouse. And the tower will be on the highest hill made from smooth stone.

Decided to call it a night and go to bed after this one. Next minecraft session I will fix the location of the warehouse, build my forge and possibly start my windmill. I am thinking of adding the windmill and farm across the bridge near the quarry. Maybe...

    ENTRY 2 - QUARRY

Needed stone badly as there are no mountains around here so the quarry will have to come first. Hopefully I can stumble onto some coal so I can light my house up a bit. Still stone is priority. Headed across the other side of the river and started to dig! I imagine it will expand out a lot more as I need more raw materials.

Struck coal thank god! Constructood me some torches and added a small room off the quarry that will be a 4x4 shaft down to bedrock. Quarry looking more respectable now (the lighting in 1.8 is amazing).

Dug down maybe 10 metres and hit a GIANT RAVINE. I can see creepers at the bottom dancing around. Explored the ledges a bit before heading back up to the surface with 38 blocks of iron :smile.gif:

Headed back home and crashed for the night. This morning built a bridge over to the quarry and decided to terraform the land behind my house a bit so I can add some more structures. First terraform; then lay out my paths and the base of my building so I can make sure everything fits nice!

    ARCHEBUS BUILD DIARY

1.8 is out HORAY! Which means a new world for me!! So this thread will be a running diary of my world as I build and add things to it. World will be 100% legit, and I will play on hard mode because it will help me grow a beard and fly rockets and punch people. Peaceful is for people who smell flowers and use baby powder.

    ENTRY 1 - SPAWN

Spawned in a forest surrounded by flowers ... awwwwwwww who cares time to punch down some mutha-****in trees to get my manliness levels back up. So ... obvious first goal is to get a structure going preferably with some torches and a bed. Punched down 3 trees and set off to explore. Threw together a wooden sword so I can kill me some sheep for a bed and came over a small crest to a river (1.8 terrain gen is amazing). This is it! Perfect spot for my start house.

    And Walaa !

So ends Day 1. Need to fix my start house as it's a bit boring being all wood at the moment. Throw some logs and some windows on it as well as a nicer roof. Also plan to build a quarry (strip mine), and terraform the land a bit behind my house so I can build a number of things. Warehouse, forge, tower, and windmill with farm!

Decided to become an acolyte of Penna as my first ever Minecraft challenge run. It seemed like a simple place to start before I try living on a deserted island or something. I admit I cheated a little with building... I built on layer 117 because I needed enough room for a glass dome, and I used sandstone in the building because I thought it fit the aesthetic nicely.

Adding you to the acolyte list !

ugh i just realized i was building stuff on my poise path with things outside of the path... *sigh* time to tear it all up and start again.

    Doesn't matter!
As long as it looks cool.
Don't tear up your hard work if you like the result :smile.gif: just run with it. The paths can be modified to fit your own play style.

posted a message on Why I won't update until 1.9
    Quote from xLakota

Yes, yes, everyone is excited about 1.8! 1.8, 1.8, 1.8.
All the big features we've been waiting so long for!
    Except they aren't ready yet.

Hence this being called a Pre-Release.
Having removed everything that is currently a bit buggy or broken here is what will be full and complete in the official release of 1.8:

At least 9 new crafting recipes.
The ability to place pressure plates on fences.
    Creative mode.
    At least three new mobs.
Underground Ravines including canyons on the surface and ledges to walk on.
    Naturally found Cobweb.
    Totally new, fractal-based biomes code.
    7 new biomes.
    New combat Mechanics.
New farming options, more interesting farming.
    New Food System.
    5 new food items.
    New achievements.
    Sprinting.
    Improved chest model.
    New improved lighting.
    New launcher.
Explosion particles are now shockwaves instead of smoke.
The ability to see the world seed when pressing F3.

    Quote from xLakota

A lot of people don't realize that the adventure update is being split in half, with a lot of the features that round out the update being released with the second half of the update.
    This includes:
    - NPC's
    - A use for experience points.
    - A use for ender pearls.
    - Animal breeding. (+Sheep growing wool back)
    - A use for Zombie Flesh
    - Volcanoes/More Biomes.
    - More expansive Strongholds.

You know who realises the update is being split in half.... Everyone..... everyone realises this.
And so what? Read above to see all the features we DO get.
Are you whining about unreleased features or whining about the entire update? Your frame is starting to confuse me.

    Quote from xLakota

Without NPC's, game generated villages become awkward ghost towns. Making towns in SSP in previous versions were cool, because even though you were still alone, you could be proud of what you've built. With ghost towns, you still have the lonely feeling, combined with the lack of any sense of accomplishment attached too these towns.

    So turn them off ?

    Quote from xLakota

Lets face it. The XP bar is pointless as of now. totally pointless. so are XP orbs. no use whatsoever. not even a counter for how many times you've filled it up.

But how does this alter your game-play experience at all?
Are you really so stupid that you can't just ignore the bar?
OH **** I HAVE FULL XP I CAN NOW NO LONGER BUILD WITH WOOD BLOCKS BECAUSE I AM A MORON !!!!

    Quote from xLakota

Ender Pearls.. ooh mysterious. except they're useless. so is zombie flesh, unless I'm missing something.

My dog. Who can't read. Is amazed at how stupid you are.

    Quote from xLakota

Without animal breeding, there is no balance to the change in the rate of mob spawns. a player like me will find himself completely out of wool, pork, beef, leather, and... not chickens because you can already breed chickens. It will absolutely stink having to travel far and wide in search of... pigs.

What are you even talking about?
I checked the wiki and it stated nothing about changing mob spawns.
Please post a source to this fact, so even when it is true, I can dispute why you should care about it at all.

    Quote from xLakota

Jeb has stated on twitter (don't ask me for source) that notch might have to change the biome code again. which would mean another change in terrain generation, meaning more awkward changes in the landscape occurring along chunk lines.
Notch has also mentioned that he plans on adding more biomes for 1.9, meaning the same thing.

You know what's fun? Starting a new world. Starting from scratch with new ideas.
You know what else is fun? * Cough *

    Quote from xLakota

So all this update does in the way of true ADDITIONs to the game, is strongholds and abandoned mines.
    And the new combat mechanics.
    And melon/pumpkin farming.
Everything else takes away from the game...

Refer to above points. You seem to be suffering from severe cases of dyslexia and/or selective memory of actual facts.

    Quote from xLakota

Also, in my opinion, i dislike the new biome generation code. Nothing like the sort of environments we minecrafters are used to. What if you spawn in a ginormous plain? no trees in sight, you'll have to truck it to the nearest forest biome to find a tree. Then you'll have to truck it to the nearest mountain biome to find coal. Then after a few nights you'll have to truck it back to the plains to get building. It just seems annoying to me. I do like the idea of Medium islands and oceans. the idea of minecraftland being a Pangea with 30% water coverage always annoyed me, but it doesn't make up for the awkward biomes.

The overwhelming majority of the community wanted bigger biomes and they got it.
Yeah sucks being in the minority but you are actually exaggerating the issue a bit. Coal and wood are no where near as hard to obtain as you are making it out.

    Quote from xLakota

One thing some people are gonna say is:
Oh well the games in beta, were gonna get these updates that mess up the game from time to time, you'll just have to deal with it.
    My response:
well, Notch added the option to update instead of forcing updates, so i don't have to if i don't want to. but i will. when the adventure update is completely added. And as an alpha customer, i have reserved the right to any future updates i want, including the full release. so i can wait as long as i like without having to worry a bit.

Hey xLakota, the game is in Beta. You absolutely have the reserved right to wait for the 1.9 update but in all honesty no one really cares about your opinion. However I do care when you come here to the forums and diss the 1.8 update with poorly researched facts making it sound like anyone who updates is an idiot. In this case I have no choice but to refute your points.

Terrifys me you spent such a long time making up this crap

Don't get me wrong, it is very well written and you put a lot of effort into it... But really?

Watch your use of adjectives mate. "Crap" is a good choice of words if you want to commence hostilities. Strange you think this took so much time. 2-3 hours bored at work on a Friday afternoon for the first 4 posts. People spend longer than this on there first in-game structure easily. A large chunk of the work on the other gods was community driven.

I won't be updating until I am content I have fully played through the 1.8 patch. So if this thread is still alive after I am done mucking around with 1.8 then I will update the paths.

Also I updated the main page with new scribes and acolytes.
