the hand being white thing is because the hand get shadowed incorrectly.
so if you happen to hit any shadow your hand turn dark, sun(its extremely bright ;D) white.

Yes, well... that much is obvious. I guess I should've posted right away that I wondered whether there's some lightmap or whatever that I have to erase/add somewhere.

Also, just wondering: 64x texture packs don't seem to work. It loads and seems to display everything correctly, but then freezes about three seconds in. I realise all the shaders are made for bigger res TPs, but why exactly wouldn't this work?

Optifine for 1.3.1? This mod isn't for 1.3.1 yet

    v10 is, that's what I'm trying.

Fixing the water using this method worked fine:

    Quote from zatoichi

here is a scaled and clean version of the water texture in 64x, to easily edit your own packs to work with the water shader:

basic directions (use something like gimp or paint.net that will maintain alpha channels):
    - resize to match your tp (it's been reduced to just 2 colors + alpha so it will always scale perfectly)
    - delete the water texture in terrain.png, then paste this directly over it (together so that the pink color replaces your water with the additional transparent one next to it)
    - make sure your pack doesn't have any custom water stills, otherwise it won't work (delete anything named custom_water_still.png in the root of your package)

Reposting it for other people's benefit.

However, one problem remains: when the sun is up - and only when the sun is up - the items in my hand are all white, see:
    -- pic1 (sun) -- pic2 (rain) --
Apart from that, everything looks good.

So far it looks like the shaders are great, apart from some minor stuff like water edges being highlighted in darkness... needs to be bumpmapping on this, and it'll be quite amazing.
They're extremely resource-demanding, though. My graphics card heats up like I'm playing Skyrim. I realise this is probably the best you can get from a Java-based game, but still, curious.

Il fix that for you in an hour :)

    That's awfully kind of you.

If it helps, the log in the cmd window constantly says:

    @Post render
    1282: Invalid operation
    ######### GL ERROR #########

I should mention that I'm using the latest Optifine for 1.3.1, might be related to that.

Thank you for the fixes, Ruben, the environment one helped me, however, as you can see on the screen:

Looks lovely (PureBDcraft 256x), but the water isn't there. Or, rather, it's there, but very, very transparent.

The item in my hand is also not transparent, but white.

Ahem. Shameless self-bump on the issues with 512x and 256x:

    Quote from AquilaAudax

    Installed:
    Optifine
    GLSL Shaders
    This texture pack
    Have Java 7 x64
Set launcher to 4Gb max memory (with McMemory)

...and still can't load it without crashing. The 256x version goes out of memory as well sometimes (when flying in Creative especially rendering is set to Far, but really, must I reduce that?). Am I missing something?..

PC should be handling it (i5 3570K, 8Gb RAM DDR3, GTX680, Minecraft running off an SSD as well).
If anyone has settings for those packs that run stable, or just advice, I'd appreciate it.

Errm. So is the 512x version meant to be used at all? My PC eats any game out today (and in the next couple years by the way things are going) for breakfast, and yet it can't load the pack.

From my post in the Looking For forum:

Not asking for anything special or too complicated. Just a server that feels alive, with people you can communicate with. I'm okay with roleplay, but somewhat wary of it, since it tends to engender DRAMA, last thing I need after work. Somewhere I can dig my own holes and visit other people's, and go on spelunking expeditions, or even better, help built something (that would be absolutely grand, if I could not only build my own stuff but help build something together). A simple farmer'sminer's life is what I seek, pretty much. With additional light thrills. No rampant PvP or whatever, of course.

Also in a weird timezone and pretty far from anywhere (Japan...), so I'd be on at weird hours, unless of course the server is Aussie or West Coast or something. Not really a noob though, been playing since 1.6.3 I believe, recently paused for several months.

    Would appreciate any pointers.

Wouldn't mind getting into some fancy paying server if it means I could enjoy the view and have nice people around. But I don't know any, and there's all this complicated talk about shops, taxes, whatever, that gets my head spinning (back my day, we were happy to find one diamond through hard work! *cough* *wheeze*) so again... help with that would be appreciated.

Can't you hit mobs' feet in SMP in 1.2?

So you're saying that was fixed? One block away, like in all those SP farms?

Hit them from underneath, place 1 iron bar, they cant fall through, but you can hit strraight up(look at ethoslab)

Does this work now, as of 1.2? I'm trying to think of ways to make a double duty mob/xp farm. The mobs would fall through a central 40-deep hole to a standard grinder down below. However, at the flick of a switch it would get closed off around halfway, so that they would get fall damage and become easy to mass-stab. The important thing is - I don't really care about it being 100% safe (getting an arrow or two is okay), but I don't want any creepers blowing up in my face.

What would be the easiest way, or a way that works, anyhow? I mean, create a village with NPCs that will eventually breed and occupy all the houses I will have built for them.
Only thing I could find out from the wiki is that I can give myself these Spawn Eggs; but will the NPCs behave normally after that? Also, Spawn Eggs seem to generate only Farmer NPCs, - so what about others, will they appear over time (with breeding)?

posted a message on OptiFine HD (FPS Boost, Dynamic Lights, Shaders and much more)
Something happened with these newer versions... I basically took a break after 1.8, and only came back now, to 1.1. Clean install, OptiFine Multi-Core installed: runs very smoothly, but I get see-through chunks constantly, especially when water's around. It's very frustrating and at times unplayable. I've tried the suggested disablind Threaded Optimization and forcing VSync on, does nothing to help. Any ideas?.. Never had this before with OptiFine.

It is not the "flickering" that was linked to in a video; it's the good old see-through chunks, except they can happen up to every five seconds.

I thought it just copies everything? Gah! And there's also the problem of the structures and railways in the Nether.

Well, I went the brutish way, copying the whole ~277.5 million blocks, not counting the Nether (according to MCEdit) into a new map (it's a pity MCEdit can't generate anything that's not flatland by itself). Re-lighting 6336 chunks, oh my
The most annoying thing was aligning the Nether, but I figured it out. The biomes are somewhat screwed up, but it's definitely not as bad as before.

    Okay, this is very weird.
I could swear on whatever you wish that I've seen it, and yet I must've been dreaming or something.
I was pretty sure MCEdit was explicitly updated to 1.9 pre4 at least, and I've seen screenshots that had a typical MCEdit menu with map generation using the 1.9 generator. Am I going crazy?

Right, so it's how I thought. See, when I asked about this before the release of 1.8, people told me it's better to migrate to the next patch simply by deleting most chunks outside of those we have built on/in. And I initially wanted to export schematics... which is I guess what I'll have to do now.
