You guys realize that you don't have to defeat Herobrine, right? Instead, throw a rune of perpetual explosion on him (remember, he's immune to explosions!) which should stun him and have him drop the bow of ages. Then, hopefully, being a good boy you are, you have the Boots of Golden Hermes +20 on, which you should use to escape from the battle. Then do all the events you're supposed to in the regular storyline, except, when you go to the diamond creeper statue, you'll see Herobrine there, saying he wants to join your party. Switch one of your party members out (I would reccommend maxy the pig, since infinite ham is useless at this stage, Admin potions of PWN are better or Johnny the Creeper Missionary since he will sap your teams' really fast ) and move him in. His attacks mainly focus on group support and group offense. So, far, he is THE most overpowered member I have, since he can not only cast DIVINE HASTE and RESURRECTION, but also TROLLSTORM and VOID. Yep, he can cast VOID (which is really good for finding rare metals like agestone and rainstone quickly). He can also caste mass boost, among some other stuff. At the end of the story, since herobrine isn't there for you to beat, you automatically go to the final boss. After defeating him, you get the achievement "HAXK0RZ" and the secret ending.
Lean, **** off. Nobody likes you. As vulgar as that sounds, you are CONSTANTLY bitching on both the blog and the forums.
I honestly don't care what you think, and in fact you make me want to go make another blog post, I think I'll do that right now...
P.S: Dodging shoes oh thats a funny one had me rolling on the floor laughing at how ingenious it was, with matching avatar to boot, oh man you are the king of the trolls in shining armor :smile.gif:
Bad decision man, remember, people innately bash what they don't like to hear (usually), and being ignorant of changing times and shifts in ways of thinking is a serious mistake, people will constantly bash you, no matter how valid your point. Yeah, and you pretending to not care what others think openly is a bad choice.
EDIT: Guys, just stop it, bashing a person for being an idiot repeadetly isn't going to help anyone, and (depending on the person) could cause him to keep being an idiot.
@Anreg I read your ridiculously long post, and I agree with you to an extent, I'd go into detail but I have something else to say for now. Personally (read: obviously) I think both Manic Digger AND Minecraft are both underdeveloped in their current state (Manic Digger being even moreso) BUT the point of this thread was not if Manic Digger was better than Minecraft or vice versa.
The point of this thread is to spark a conversation about how, if, and when something should happen in the form of competition (something that we are seeing quickly spring up) would affect Minecraft and/or Notch himself.
Would he be motivated to work harder? Would he run with the money and give up? This was initially what I had hoped to converse about. If Notch were to feel threatened by a certain project similar to Minecraft, do you think he would actually put down Civ 5 and work on an update instead? What is everyones opinion on this?
As it is all everyone has done is help build more resentment for the guy to the point where I was extremely pissed at everything related to Minecraft (especially its crappy community, which is worse than the DOTA community... I know amazing right?) Unfortunately the community is here to stay so again, what does everyone think Notch will do IF serious competition comes knocking on his door, and I am not talking about Manic Digger.
Please do not derail this thread again. You ****in' Notchdrones :tongue.gif:
Ok, very well, but one has to realize that (serious) competition has not come out from MD, as addresed for reasons in my very (admittendly) long post, but let's get on track and not go on a four page tangent again everyone, if Notch would be threatened by some sort of competition, the following could happen in my opinion:
1. Greater improvement in both sides:
Yes, competition=more effort into the mix, but if competition becomes so strong that Minecraft becomes so rushed that it loses a bit of its flair (not neccessarily bad), this could mean some more upset fans
2.One side EXPLODES!:
Either Notch gives up (causing irreparable damage in his fanbase) and runs off or the other side loses because of giant :SSSS:'s, it will most likely be caused by a traumatizing experience to one side. Unlikely to happen.
So, yes competition in the long run=good. Whether something can catch up to Minecraft to actually spark competition is questionable though.
EDIT: Woah!!!!11!! We sure got off-topic while I wrote this
so, the entire purpose of the thread is...what exactly?
the notch defend team took this thread to crap but I believe the original purpose of this thread was just to point out that Notch already has competition and very likely to get even more competition from big development studios that have the know how, funding, and better ability to improve on the premise of Notch's Minecraft idea.
But from the replies, it seems like most posters want to live under a rock with their fingers in their ears and believe that Notch has it all under control and that no one can or will ever improve on his game. If anything the past few weeks and current events have shown that Notch is not ready to under take this whole thing. Certainly he's trying to get things under control but in the meantime it seems like he's failing.
Also, I don't like that Notch doesn't want to allow a team to do the coding. He said himself that he want's to do all the coding himself. While in retrospect this may be a good thing, development wise it's a really bad idea. And this is exactly why we are not getting our Secret friday updates or practically worthless last few friday updates.
A useless fishpole? Really?
Thank you, another one that knows what I'm saying. I don't want to dis Minecraft or Notch but all of his minions make it hard not to do so. I was just saying that I WANT Minecraft to be the best for as long as possible, but I'd switch if something better came along, thats all I'm saying. Plus SMP in its current state is not fun at all and very boring. JMHO thats all.
Yes, but you have to be patient for the updates, SMP is getting fixed up and improved and so is Alpha, so be patient! Oh, and read my other posts here, I'm sure you can reason with them.
P.S. Don't see it as a useless fishing pole, see it as a foreshadowing of fish!!!!
@Anreg
I know! I just drink a lot of Monster. Minecraft is so riveting. Er, my treehouse is. I'm currently trying to connect it to an underwater glass house. It's harder than you'd think.
Ehh, I hate that reason as it is overused by this forum, you should try reading sometimes, but then again if you think my posts aren't concise, in my opinion the only reason to use TL;DR then tell me.
I usually read long posts, but I'm high off sleep deprivation right now (53 hours awake) and I don't want to abandon my tree house in Minecraft.
Also, people, if you want to hate on Manic Digger, do it like Mr. Poptart ( I love poptarts)
He wasn't flamey, trolley (or is it troll-y?)
But he expressed his opinions in a not hateful way.
Take a moment to learn from this.
Um, I tried to be unbiased, but you didn't read my post, so I'll let it slide, try to go to sleep, that ain't healthy .

A clear case of internet backdraft, but reason with me rationally if you will

This is the cleaned up version, last thread sounded too trollish and yes I am extremely frustrated at the lack of a good update when it is sorely needed. And yeah, sorry the game was Manic Digger. Was playing Manic Miner a couple of days ago on an emulator and didn't realize it got stuck in my head.
Anyways, this is not a pump thread about Manic Digger. The game is atrocious in its current state.
The thing is, it won't be in that state for long. It is constantly being updated using feedback from users.
The problem is three-fold and it doesn't work in Minecraft's favor.
1) Manic Digger is open-source and free to play.
2) Manic Digger gets constant updates with LOADS of fixed/added features and it has barely started development in March, meaning it's catching up VERY quickly to Minecraft. In fact, too quickly.
At the current rate of fixes/additions, Manic Digger can be estimated to overtake Minecraft in as little as 6 months (MUCH less if Notch keeps taking breaks to work on, or play other video games)
3) Due to Manic Digger's open-source nature, not only can we expect it to be updated indefinitely (something that may not occur with Minecraft) but we can also expect multiple clones branching off of that which will put even a bigger bonfire under Minecraft's ass.
I've already seen a few other Minecraft clones in the works besides Manic Digger but are too underdeveloped to even mention. If any of these were to be picked up by a company, or if say an established company decided to make a game like Minecraft, Notch wouldn't stand a chance.
This reminds of DOTA a popular map for Warcraft 3. Two large companies cloned what was an indie developed map and they are now raking in millions leaving DOTA in the dust. The question is: How much confidence does the community have that Notch will implement more substantial and timely updates in response to the growing threat that is competition?
Ok, I’ll try to be as unbiased as possible here and attempt to rationally argue with you:
1. Yes, that is a good point, Maniac Digger (from now on known as MD) is open source and free to play, allowing it to cover a much wider audience in a faster, quicker time. Furthermore, hoards of high quality mods could pour in, adding more appeal and depth to the game. However, remember money is a HUGE incentive and the fact that MD is free and open-source means the guy who made it isn’t making a cent off it, not exactly enticing spending all your work and time into this game, right? (and it looks like this is happening to MD…)
2. Look at how Notch has updated the game in the early days, Minecraft was quickly gaining speed, with loads of quality updates, the creation of infinite worlds, new blocks, new recipes, yay! However, there is such thing as “burnout” where you just don’t feel like playing or working on it due to you being all tired about it and/or losing interest on it. It seems that Notch is slowly burning himself out every two months or so and then takes a large break. Furthermore, multiple events have happened to Mojang industries (or whatever), mostly due to the soaring popularity of Minecraft that has caused Notch to run into many things (thinking about business and expansion, slow website, etc) and has delayed many updates. Finally, it seems Notch is attempting to fix up Minecraft to make it more enjoyable to the mainstream crowd (though it already is) such as fixing bugs (big one), implementing SMP, etc. So Notch is actively fixing the game and optimizing it, though not so much in original content, but really, would you want a huge game with explosive content and awesome game play that crashes every hour or a more stable one?

a copy will NEVER be better then a original
remember that NOTHING can be more minecraftish then minecraft
Minecraft was a copy of infiniminer at one time. I agree that manic digger is horrible and notch doesnt need to update every week. I would hate to see these guys with duke nukem forever
Dat true, Minecraft, a clone of infiniminer, took the core concept and setting and added its own flavor into it, creating a different and entirely enjoyable DIFFERENT game.

What happens if Notch adds runes, enchantments, spells, and a bunch of other crap that noone wants, but he does anyways because "he likes that stuff"? What if Manic Miner DIDN'T add all that crap? Would Minecraft still be better? I don't know man, Notch already claimed he wanted to add enchantments and **** and I read on the Manic Digger forums that they weren't planning on adding that stuff. That's a game changer for me right there.
Well actually Lea, I think runes, enchantments, and spells will be good if done right, just like everything, but this isn’t the topic for it. Well actually, it sort of is, na, I can’t argue with it, it’s too vague, are you saying magic would ruin the game? And why are you comparing a single PLANNED feature of minecraft for a PLANNED non-feature of MD?
Quote from Raane »
That's part of the problem for manic digger. It looks amateurish, Notch has kept a really tight style all through development.
Minecraft also has the same boon which runescape has (hear me out?!? I don't actually play it!) it runs in a browser which makes it a load more accessible.
It seems manic digger is just mirroring everything notch develops - if they managed to branch and actually do some innovative stuff they might get some kudos.
Your original point was that if notch's development speed stays as it is, manic digger will surpass it. If manic digger can create features for themselves, maybe they will. Key point here is that his development speed will not stay as is. Now he's got all the financial and business issues under control it should ramp back up, possibly even passing his original progress.
If someone wants to be smart, make me a metaball-based tetrahedral-tesellation sandbox creation game. Then i'll give you some kudos!
You get a cookie!!
Finally, people, stop bashing the non-trolls who simply have different opinions, attack the arguements, not the people (or cows).
