Apr 27, 2013Magmen: Towering, three-block high steves made of lava in an obsidian shell. Found in the Nether. Would drop obsidian blocks when defeated. Has a 1/16 chance of turning into a wither skeleton once their bodies of lava and obsidian have been bashed away, leaving the charred skeleton.Posted in: Mods Discussion
Apr 9, 2013Anonfox123 posted a message on Flan's Mod 5.5.2 Update : 1.12.2, 100s of new Skins! : Helicopters, Mechas, Planes, Vehicles, 3D Guns, Multiplayer, TDM, CTFNot sure if this would be too much work, but maybe you could add in helicopters? I'd imagine they'd be easier to fly/land in some areas, but also would go slower/cost more. They'd also be much better suited to the few open areas of the Nether where maneuvering is tight.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
(I might be missing something and a content pack might have a 'copter, but if there is one, I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could point it out to me.)
Apr 8, 2013Small nitpick regarding the ears on the furry model: they seem to be slightly offset from the edges of the head right now.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
When I first got this mod, when the edge of the ears and the edge of the head were in line. Is this an intentional change? Because right now they look ever-so-slightly mickey mouse-like, even when playing as a wolf.

Thanks man! I was initially kind of annoyed about the past similarity to the Aether, but after reading some posts I decided to give Damoniy the benefit of the doubt. This latest update especially shows how he is in fact trying to make the Ether into something different, and I do think it has potential for success once it maneuvers out from under the Aether's shadow. So, if my suggestions could help him do that, then I'm more than happy to provide them!Quote from Gurrok
+1 rep and agreed with pretty much everything said. Great ideas!
Apr 8, 2013Well, I check back here and what do I find...Posted in: Minecraft Mods
More angry Aether fanboys? Check.
A reasonably strong defense put up by Damoniy's fans? Check.
And an update?!? Woah, that wasn't on the list, let's check this out...
First off: the new textures are helping a whole lot, the greater visual distinction does start to move this away from the Aether a whole bunch. The thing that I am skeptical about, however, is the purple trees. Not just because the Aether has purple trees now, but because they kind of clash with the landscape. (To be honest, it looks as thought the trees were colored by a kid going ham with a highlighter.)
The colors for the grass and new plants/fruit look natural, but with the trees, they seem like plastic yard ornaments I'm afraid. The wood texture could also be a bit less uniform: from a distance they just look like plain poles instead of real wood. The thing about the Aether's purple trees is the fact that they go with the landscape. Most textures use "cool" colors, so the trees are a more "cool", washed-out purple which fits in with the overall scheme. The tree problem here is that they don't fit your overall scheme right now.
Also, it would be good to have several kinds of tree instead of just all purple. Once you have biomes, I could imagine grasslands with a few sparse trees, colored in a fiery orange, and dense jungles of purple trees. Having ordinary green trees isn't bad either. with the current look, I feel that blue trees would be a better change as the "normal" tree of the ether, with the proposed purple and orange having some special drop either from the wood or leaves.
Another texture quibble: the dirt is a little bit too green to look like dirt, you know what I'm saying? The old aether-esque blue/grey wouldn't work with the current grass, but vanilla dirt would be bad too... I'm thinking maybe a lighter kind of dirt, like a mix between the vanilla sand and dirt textures.
Now, I have another idea for moving your mod away from the Aether: fixing the portal. The original nether portal was a doorway. The Aether mirrored that with glowstone. Ok, cool. Now lets look at other dimension mods: some use doorways of new materials, but the thing that jumps to my mind as unique is the Twilight forest, which instead uses a pool of water transformed by throwing in a diamond.
Now, what can you do, Damoniy? Imagine this: a beacon portal. It could be a little pryamid/altar of glowstone or what have you. (hey, maybe even nether quartz!) You would then craft some kind of "portal focus", maybe out of gold/diamond, and right-click the top block with the focus, placing it on top. A beam of light shoots up to the sky, and when you step in it, you're whisked off to the Ether!
Sorry if the post is a bit long, all kinds of stuff jumped into my head.
Apr 7, 2013Right, so I uploaded my edit of the wolf model, but it's not showing any of the added features (ears/tail/etc), only the normal Steve shape. And yes, I colored those coding-pixels correctly.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Any reason why this wouldn't work? (Nevermind, figured it out. Those sample skins should be updated at some point, the pixel-codes don't match)
Apr 4, 2013Anonfox123 posted a message on [1.5.1][API][Forge] Main Menu API v1.1 - Have your own Main Menu! (No base class edits) - Jukebox player!Huzza! Looks awesome, saw some streaming for it. I guess the backdrop isn't going hyperspeed any more?Posted in: Minecraft Mods
(And now that this is done, hopefully the main event will some soon after!)
Mar 28, 2013Another Aether fan over here, but I'm not here to spew mindless insults. Heck, after reading what some of these people say, I feel as though I should apologize on the behalf of the Aether community.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Like I mentioned before (page 9 I think), I feel that most people's negative reactions come from the fact that visually, the Aether and Ether are very similar. Direct texture copies/ pallet swaps, etc. Mechanics-wise, the summonable bosses and other such things do help to distinguish it, and I am assuming you didn't copy the base code that it runs on behind the scenes. You do seem to have put in a fair bit of effort here, and I respect that.
Still, even though the other Aether fanboys are quite annoying, I feel that the best way to get them to shut up isn't to just tell them to be quiet, or to tell them that it's not a copy. You have to show people if they're going go believe you. This mod, as it has been said, is still being developed. You have a choice here, Damonly. Are you going to take this mod to new and exciting places? Or are you content to stay on your current path, and fade into the Aether's shadow once it returns?
To FANS4ever: It would seem that there is normal overworld landscape, but with floating islands in the sky as well.
Mar 28, 2013I had a bit of a hostile reaction when I saw that it was an "Island dimension in the sky", but looking at the pictures, you've already managed to distinguish this mod from the Aether, which is good.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Haven't downloaded and played it yet, but it looks interesting. I'll check back once this is more developed I think...
Mar 13, 2013Anonfox123 posted a message on [1.5.1] [SMP/SSP/LAN] [Forge] The Halo Gravity Hammer ModInteresting. The sprite could use a bit of work, but overall, not bad!Posted in: Minecraft Mods
(haven't downloaded or watched the vid yet: does it make the shockwave sound when you swing it?)
Mar 8, 2013Just wanted to say, I've been a fan of this mod almost since first release, and it has only gotten better! My most generous compliments to an interesting and original dimension mod.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
My other favorite thing about this is the way that it looks so different from the overworld while still preserving the overall minecraft aesthetic. Never could stand those dimension mods with their neon-colored tools and other such nonsense...
Mar 8, 2013First off: I did read the thread, and while you aren't copying the aether block for block, you cannot escape the fact that your floating dungeon-thing is a splitting image of the Aether's silver dungeons, the fact that your grass/dirt textures are exactly the same as the ones in the Aether, and the fact that even though you have different tools and items, your sprites for them, especially the pickaxes, are more or less pallet swaps of the tools from the Aether. It is also painfully obvious that you have pallet swapped zanite gems, and your portal is exactly the same as well. (nice job on the name by the way, dropping the A from Aether is really original...)Posted in: Minecraft Mods
While I do like your idea of golem-style boss summoning, as well the tamable spider, those are the only saving features that I can see here. (And I assume you're working on your own, so that's another point in your favor. The Aether does have a whole team.)
But those positives aside, this is merely a cheap facsimile that takes advantage of the Aether's absence to succeed. If you really want to keep this alive when the real deal come back on the scene, you have to bust out features that are massively different and/or better than the Aether. Right now, people might just be using it as a crutch to get by until they can get a fix of the original.
