These things were already in 14w04a, weren't they? Pretty sure b just fixed some bugs...Also not sure why people have an obsession with posting a changelog, when there's already numerous out there.
My first impression is that this thing would be incredibly annoying. Depending on its aggro range, you could have a few of these crazy things chasing you at full sprinting speed, which would be even worse for a "first nighter". I guess most people without proper gear shouldn't be wandering the forest at night, but still, something to think about. All in all a fairly thought out post, props to you.

Maybe it's hinting at red dragons because in the picture there's a dragon egg..and..uh...and the only thing they added (besides the minecart/command block) is red sand...and..red dragons and red sand are both red...and half life 3..
