I hadn't been to this thread (or the forums in general) in quite a while, so I was reading through the updates on the first post and noticed you wanted people to click the green "Reputation" button -- looked and didn't see it, but I would gladly click it!

Thank you for continually updating this pack. I am a TPoholic and switch between packs often, and some packs I've come to enjoy have seemingly just stopped updating. But yours is always top notch (no pun intended). Have a blessed week!

Very beautiful pack. I d/led the Painterly pack and was pleased with some things but not others, and felt a little confused in my own world. The detail you gave to your pack wasn't overbearing, but was unique and I didn't feel lost. I look forward to the completion of it.

I would definitely enjoy a pearl mod for, like suggested above, decor and building. And anything that glows and continues to glow once processed I think would be good, though maybe not necessary.

I don't see pearl being much better than gold and certainly not better than iron (thinking IRL here, though we all know there are some IRL mechanics in the game and some aren't).

I am 100% behind this suggestion. Carpet, bi-colored tables (my main reason for wanting it), canopies... just a fab idea.

This idea has been proposed in various forms, which is probably why you're getting no feedback. I myself made a similar post just last night (Writing Desk) and was (rather snidely) pointed to the Better Books thread. I've also seen at least one other journal/book we can write in suggestion in the 5 or so pages I went through to find mine, lol :smile.gif: However, I like the addition of a calendar.

As I said, the search function on the forums is down. I didn't think to search Book, because my thought was on a "Desk" so that's what I looked for.

Deathguardian97, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic toward me or not, or if you're saying that my way of writing it was more desirable or vice versa.

Regardless, since a similar idea has already been posted, I suggest the mods of this thread simply lock this thread. Thanks again.

Yes, I admit that search is down. That isn't an excuse to ignore the blue hyperlink where search used to be that says to search via google.

And that isn't an excuse to ignore the parts where I said I "searched via Google" and also "didn't think to search for Books".

I'm fully aware that forums are flooded all the time with ideas, and I knew that this idea was fairly mundane and had surely been mentioned before. But when I DIDN'T FIND anything via GOOGLE, I decided to post my (as well as I could) thought-out idea.

posted a message on "Better Books" Suggestion (Making Books Awsome) V2.0 (Completely Revamped)
I like the idea of making books more useful, specifically writing in our own books. I was told about this post after posting my own journal idea, and since this thread has already started I'll just put my backing here for a journal.

I also like the idea of books being used to pass the time, the Secret Compartment book, and the Trap book. I dislike a custom book's writings being destroyed when the book is broken (what if there's an accident :SSSS: ?) The other seem to simply be filler and not books I would personally want, especially tutorial books -- for me, getting a tutorial book after crafting a book seems a bit too late. Depending on the world, reeds are difficult to find, and once found one still has to figure out how to make a book out of it (and not sugar, since that's a thing now). By the time I'd found reeds, I'd already crafted many other, more vital things that a tutorial book would likely tell me how to make.

That said, I do think an optional tutorial level should probably be implemented for those who need it, though I (and many others, as I've seen in blogs) enjoy the "Oooh, what if I put this with this?" aspect of Minecraft (which is why I said optional). And I also second a comment containing the idea that the book be more of a log, only showing a recipe after you've crafted it once. I *still* head to the wiki when I forget how to craft something I don't use as often, so an in-game reminder would be really helpful.

Bottom line: everyone has their wants, so I'm sure there are those out there who would like tutorial books on various subjects.

posted a message on Writing Desk
Note: Because a couple posters have liked this idea, I am taking away my *please close* request. I'll leave it up to a mod to decide if the thread should be closed or not. I do want to add that, while the Better Book thread does include a Book one can write in, mine deals solely with this suggestion and not many listed in one thread, and I feel that mine is well explained, including function, creation, and possible problems that may arise.

In single-player mode, I've been looking for a wolf for (in-game) days. I holed up in a cliff facing and sat there, minus the items to make a bed, and realized I wanted to log my journey. And then I realized I wanted a desk.

Before you read further, I do want to point out that I did a minimal search (the advanced search feature is broken at the time of my posting) through Google, and "Minecraft Mod + desk" and "Minecraft Suggestion + desk" searches turned up nothing. A similar search for stained glass did turn up the appropriate mods, so I am assuming a writing desk hasn't been talked about. However, I can't believe that I'm the only one to have thought of this, so I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's idea or annoying anyone if the idea has been suggested and quickly shot down.

The idea: A writing desk, complete with a blank journal to fill with writings. Construction wouldn't be complicated, just a bit time-consuming because the player would need to create a book, thus cultivating reeds (which sometimes one has to trek to find). The recipe would be something like this:

    [] [] []
    :wood: :bookshelf: :wood: *
    :wood: :wood: :wood:

    * Not a whole Bookshelf, but a single Book (journal).

The player could place a Desk, and when used an interface would open for the player to type in (something simple like this). This would save to a flat (text) file. The Desk (like the Workbench) can be picked up and moved. The Desk would only need to take up the space of one block.

I know there are some RPers playing Minecraft, and I can see this as a great tool to showcase one's journey. For those less RP-inclined, it could be used just for making notes ("Diamond motherlode back behind the creeper-faced cliff").

Troubleshooting: I don't personally see this as an item that would 'break' the game; it wouldn't make anything easier, and considering the usage of the Desk, it wouldn't be hard to create.

But there are a few variables that I could list regarding the Desk.

Should it be finite? For 'realistic' purposes, I can see the pages filling up, or the pencil breaking. Perhaps to continue writing, another book will be needed. But this brings up more questions: Do multiple books share text? Will the files save differently or in one whole file? I don't see a reason to make the desk finite, or to split the text, and added hassle would really just be more difficult/annoying/hard to keep up with.

Should there be a Pencil? Wouldn't be hard to construct:

    [] [] []
    [] :|: []
    [] :Coal: []

But that'd just be another item to keep up with, another tool to stuff in your already loaded pockets. And a quill would just be ridiculous (awesome, but ridiculous).

Should others be able to write in your Journal? I've been away from the Interwebs for about a month (was visiting family out of state) but I've heard rumors of locked chests/personal chests. I certainly wouldn't want to come back to my house and read a bunch of random keystrokes put in for jollies by a friend in SMP. So I would say no to this question, in the hopes that whatever programming makes locked chests could also lock a journal. But that brings up the next question...

Should others be able to view your Journal? I'd want them to. If I've been out for 38 days searching for the elusive snow wolf and finally found one, I'd want to share with my friends all the tales I jotted down on my journey. A 'read-only' feature would be great.

Demolition? Here's a question I don't have a good answer for. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how complicated this could become. But if Player A places a Desk in Player B's house with the intent of B reading it, what then? B doesn't want the thing sitting around anymore -- does A need to come in and break down the Desk? Similarly to a question I posted above, does creating a different Desk create a new file for Player A, and as such, if B removes the Desk, shouldn't the file still remain with A (even if it's within the bowels of the .jar file)?

All of that said, I'd at least like to see a mod. I know that various mods developed by the creative players of Minecraft have been/will be implemented into the game, depending on popularity and Notch & Co.'s reaction to those mods. If this topic would be better suited in the Modding forums than Suggestions, please kindly let me know.

Thanks, AnaBrie. [...] Anyway you Yanks all walk around with Stetsons(?) on boardwalks don't you? ;D Well at least they did when I was a kid! Lol! Now I'm going to be causing offence now! Aaargh. :SSSS:

The water would add to your atmosphere though. That should be acheivable for you in th HD fix mod by xau. You have to make the right choices in that mod to get my water visible and animated. It's a little more transparent than most folks are used to, but I was thinking of all those underwater Captain Nemo style subs and constructions that would be viewable from the surface. Also helps somewhat in finding clay, which I always find a pain discovering!

AnaBrie, sorry, but the green flame popping out of the lava is a consequence of changing the colouring of the particles for the lamps and the furnace. It's not possible to have different colours I'm afraid. I look at the green lava flames as a nice contrast and see them as impurities burning up, like copper, etc. Sort of like the diffferent colours you get with fireworks, smelting, etc. It is a trade off though. :sad.gif:

I'm not sure it's possible to have anything other than Notch's fire animated, if unanimated then you can use alternative textures. I've not really looked into this though. I use the original fire though myself. More than happy with that. However, again with the particles limitation, you've got to put up with the murky green polluted smoke I created for the green gas lamps puffing up over any of your fires! :biggrin.gif:

Ha! No offense :biggrin.gif: I'm from the Southern US so I get asked redneck/hillbilly questions. Stereotypes are stereotypes -- I rarely take offense unless they're meant in a hurtful way.

I did the HD texture fix, AND kept your water. I even lightened the lava a bit from the deeper red orange to a bit lighter, and more yellow. I messed with some other colors as well:

Just simple things, though, as I'm not very well versed in PS (that's my hubby's department :smile.gif:). So I just selected and used the various hue/saturation sliders, because I really wanted to keep the feel of what you did, because it's excellent work.

Good idea about impurities burning up. And since I realized it wasn't to do with me messing up the HD-texture patcher, I feel better :smile.gif: I wouldn't trade that green lamp animation for anything, even orange lava embers!

Thanks so much for explaining the fire animation to me. I just knew I'd screwed something up or was overlooking a specific "fire" file somewhere. I don't notice the smoky green puffs coming off fires, but it did surprise me the first time I killed an animal and its corpse went up in a green poof! :Zombie: :wink.gif:

Also, I had read in one of the comments that someone (Arlo) wanted the sky to be a greyer color to complement the Steampunk setting. I suggest turning the fog settings up a bit higher if you haven't already. Gave it a "London" feel (I'm completely from the US and have never been to London, so forgive me if for some reason that was insulting, because it certainly wasn't meant to be :tongue.gif:)

Gah, I never thought of that - how clever! A fog-shrouded London fits the era very well, btw.

I thought it fit well :smile.gif: But I also wasn't sure if there are some who don't equate Victorian England with Steampunk like many do (including myself).

And having seen your other comment -- eyes nearing their 6th decade! I told my husband and he was said, "Awesome." We're only in our twenties, so we had a short conversation about seeing his parents playing Minecraft (if they weren't currently addicted to Red Dead Redemption, :Sheep:)

posted a message on [128x128][1.5][1.6] Aza's Arid Pack 1/06 [WIP]
While HD packs aren't my thing (32x32 will be the highest I go), I can always appreciate the time and artistic effort put into these packs. I've seen the other "desert-y" packs, but this one is truly beautiful.

I, like some others, really liked the older glass (with the designs), and thought it felt Middle Eastern. But I can understand that, with buildings made from glass, such a pattern could get old/troublesome/take away from other things.

Also, as some others have said (and I certainly will not claim to be any type of expert on this), I think the edges of some of your blocks could be a bit softer to blend better. However, in the large pic you posted (of your old base, to show the various blocks mixing and matching from afar) everything looked really well together. I love the color palette you've chosen, especially the water color.

I can tell you've put care into this pack, and I wish you tons of luck finishing it! Also, I'm hoping what a previous commenter said (about HD textures not being usable after the update) was just a rumor. I'm personally running Glimmar's Steampunk tex pack, and I know many were clamoring for yours, and it would be such a shame for some of these amazing HD texture packs to be unusable (and all that time wasted!).
