My method is 'don't be greedy'
Sure, ores and mining is a important base of pretty much all things in minecraft. There is very little in minecraft that doesn't involve mining.
At the same time, there is very little that requires a massive amount of mining either, and there are plenty of alternatives to mining as well.
I guess I just don't find much joy in doing a very repetitive action for hours on end to gather hoards of resources most of which I'll never really use.
A single good cave gives me more than a stack of iron, nearly triple the amount of coal, and if deep enough(and many caves are deep enough) a few bars of gold, plenty of lapis, nearly the same amount of redstone as coal, and maybe a few diamonds.
This is more than enough to last me a good while as I do whatever I want.
Before I say 'I'm going to dig a giant shaft to bedrock and branch-mine for hours till I get a stack of diamonds!' I ask myself, what do I need all those resources for? Is there something I'd do rather than mine(which can be quite repetitive) for hours?
I find myself enjoying myself much more this way than I would if I spent hours digging through tons of stone for things I won't use half the time.

Yea, I had 2 ornate greatswords and 2 ornate greatmaces before my blast furnace........ It was like one ornate every 2~3 chests...
Just asking, can't you just give the entire minecraft loot system an re-write? Or will that just be too annoying?
Cute!
I think I'll have a hard time killing them....

Ok magic slimeballs, why not.
Anyways, I'll get steel soon, and be able to go look for for slimes, horses, diamonds, hounds, etc in relative safety.
It's really thanks to the 3 dungeons, desert temple, and mineshaft that I found all within a 100 block or so radius of spawn.
Speaking of which, you should really tweak the temple/dungeon loots, as they give waaay to much iron(got a blast furnace, plus an iron anvil, plus extras....).

I don't think most mods, even the 'op' ones would mess with BTW's tech tree that much, unless the mod enabled you to get iron from dirt or something.
That's what I like about 'total convention mods'
Even if you get a mod that gives you stuff that are op in vanilla and mess with the tech tree there, with the 'total convention' mods, by the time you gather enough stuff to actually use the stuff in the mods, you deserve to use it.
Anyways, that what I think.
But anyways, this is really redundant as BTW is incompatible with everything except minecraft and itself

I'd really like to know

I was hoping I could start with magic early-on, and not have mine down to lapis level just to start....
Since the lowest-tier crafting alter is wood and glass, I was hoping I could start with magic pretty much when wood and glass is really all I can afford, and then slowly make my way up to better stuff and better magic, not need to have a mine/cave to lapis level and iron to start magiking.
The reason I liked AM1, was because I could start when all I had was some wood and a tiny bit of iron, then slowly gather and search my way up from the bottom

Edit:
A somewhat funny story, I was playing vanilla, and I was swimming across a river.
I saw a squid and jumped out of the water, and ran halfway home before I remembered they were a passive mob in vanilla.

I'm 99.99% sure about this

Oh, btw, do I have to use slime balls for repair hammers, or can I use glue?
On another note, I think polearms should be able to be used with shields, but slow you down so much that it can only be purely defensive, or need to be used with mounts

Anyways, it'll take tons of kills just for one armor set if you don't allow them to mix and match leathers, or it's a ton of coding if you add something like that...
Well, I'll just sit tight and see what you come up with

I was getting so annoyed with the portal blocks sometimes working and sometimes not working... ugh, to think it was directions....
And say, can't we solve the issue by making end portal frames breakable?(but not replaceable, no)
And I think endstone in witchwater with endereye is a better recipe for end portal frames

Anyways, speaking of leather, I really like how all armor that is not the chainmail-type need leather to make.
And speaking of armor needing leather, can't armor made with better leather have better stats? like red basilisk leather scailmail/plate/etc have small fireprotection, minotaur leather scailmail/plate/etc has gives a slight attack boost, etc.

Strange I thought I nuked it......
Oh, look, a cat slaughtering mice, how nice.
Want fish?
I'll use some magic and turn this island into a mainland!
