Jul 3, 2012We have reported the spammer to the VPN/private server service they are using and continue to block any new IP address ranges the spammer is using. A solution is being put in place to filter this out.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Mar 16, 2012Alexia posted a message on My Little Pony : FiM (All Pony-related things go HERE)Just picked up Rarity at McDonalds. Stands up on her own!Posted in: Culture, Media & Arts
Though I got confused when they asked a meal for a boy or girl when I already said MLP. Stay delightfully sexist, McDonalds.
Mar 4, 2012Sorry Mister Bucket! We were fresh out of reinforced iron buckets to hold the lava. Unfortunately the factory was back ordered and they were taking a while to get shipped. We now have a full stock of them again and are back in active duty on the topic listings.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info

The bar below the ads is horrible. Itadds extra time to the page load.
If you are so desperate for views, why not just plain ask people to constantly refresh the page every five minutes.
There is also the fact that the "users viewing forum/thread" thing is gone, the top bar being unnecesary, the formatting breaking, the change on the quick reply box, etc.
But you are probably going to ignore all negative things, just like Google, and only listen to those who praise it.
The Users Viewing Board/Forum/Topic features have been disabled for a while. However, we have a current version of the site on our development servers with those features turned on. It relies on an entirely new piece of software the was developed in the past month. We were not comfortable releasing it on to the site today with out further additional testing.
Feb 21, 2012We just deployed a performance improvement for the current version of the site. The fix affects topics with polls that have a large number votes. This is just one of the performance enhancements coming with the MCF IPB 3.2 site. Our deployment strategy is to release tested fixes in tiers that can be back ported to the 3.1 site each week while we prepared the 3.2 upgrade.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
The 3.2 upgrade will focus primarily on performance. The skin will have a few minor style fixes that most users probably will not notice, but otherwise it will be exactly the same. The 3.2 deploy is very soon, meaning, within the next thirty days. I can not give the exact date since we are still evaluating performance goals to achieve as many as possible before the big switch over.

Are you a Conan O'Brien fan? Do you wish he would play more Minecraft? Now is your chance to see him do it - Conan is hosting a new segment, called "Clueless Gamer", where he will attempt to play a video game chosen by the fans, alongside Aaron Bleyaert. Interestingly enough, Minecraft is on that list of games to vote on, and that's where you come in.
If you want to see Conan O'Brien play Minecraft on TV, click on this link (or the image above), vote "Minecraft" in the poll provided, and prepare to see the indie sandbox sensation make it on national television!
A few weeks ago, we started up a community banner contest. Yesterday was the last day to submit your banner for consideration, and submissions are now closed! The banners will be reviewed, and the ten best banners will be posted this week for you to vote on! Keep an eye out, because your votes will decide who gets to have their banner in every single segment of Community Creations - good luck!
Oct 18, 2011I just found out that clicking on the green number in the bottom right of a post displays who +'d it. I did not know about this before. Must snoop through old posts >.>Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Clarification: I know about clicking the + to give reputation, but I only just discovered that you can see a list of usernames who +'d a post.
Feel free to lock this thread. I think it has outstayed its welcome.
Oct 1, 2011Adverts are important to us. They pay our operational costs (hosting, licensing etc.) and they also pay the wages for the people involved with the forum. We are aware that some people dislike adverts and that is why we offer curse premium, for only $2.50 you can get rid of the adverts and you still support us.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
If you won't get curse premium and proceed block the adverts we won't ban you; it is your choice and it will always be your choice, however we hope everyone understands why we have adverts and if they really don't want to see them they would get curse premium.
There is a sort of gray line when it comes to promoting the use of adblock, if you post telling users to use adblock your post will most likely be removed, if you keep saying "use adblock", "get adblock", "who sees adverts get adblock!!" you will eventually get a formal warning, but you'll always be informally warned about this before hand. This is because it's rude and disrespectful and it's not something we want to promote.
Everyone who has been a member of this forum for a long time will know that we have never ever been about the money. The forum (and wiki) were ran at a loss for well over a year, we didn't have a single advert until August 2010, over a year after the forum and wiki were created, during that year myself and Andrew (aera) covered all costs -- mainly Andrew). The point where we added adverts was when the costs for the month had exceeded $2,500; that is a ridiculous amount of money for anyone to be spending and while we would have absolutely loved to have the forum and wiki remain ad free forever it's just not practical, at all.
Ultimately adverts are a fact of life, yes we understand that some users dislike them but we also have bills to pay. If you block adverts that's your choice, but we provide a way for you to not see them and support us too, I personally have no sympathy for people who block adverts when there are proper ways to do it, but nobody will ever be banned for using adblock however if you encourage users to use it after being repeatedly warned not to further action may be taken, and that is our official stance.
Jul 28, 2011Merging is bothersome on some forum platforms and it's entirely user's fault if he/she can't read the rules and doesn't bother to find if similar thread was created, or, god forbid, is active and on the first page (examples: people creating hundreds of topics about Adventure Update/issues with Aether Mod).Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Most users on hugely populated forums are lazy and immature. Mods are tired and easily irritated from maintaining a forum of this size. Really, cut them some slack and read the rules/search next time. You have 300 posts, you should know how to behave.
Jul 25, 2011This thread is pointless to begin with, so I will be locking it after this post.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
I personally ran the Minecraft Forums and Minecraft Wiki with aera before we joined Curse. I was the one who got all the alerts at 3AM when servers were crashing out constantly, and emails were broken. Does nobody remember when we had search disabled for months?
Back then we got 50 million pageviews per month. We now receive over 200 million pageviews per month. This site takes a tremendous amount of time and energy to keep up and running properly. Curse has never promised to be perfect, but we do try as hard as possible to keep the forums and wiki up and running 24/7.
What do you honestly think we are doing? Intentionally making it so you have a bad experience? Of course not! We want the forums to work just as much as you guys. Possibly even more.
Regardless of that point, I have yet to have a single person with this claim show me any proof of this 'constant downtime'. I see the uptime monitors every day that show the forum is not only up way more than it used to be, but it also has a much greater response time than it ever had before.
We welcome any constructive suggestions or advice, but please, if your only reason for posting is "ZOMG, I totally know how to run websites, curse sux.", then please don't. It's not constructive, and in fact is considered flaming.
Jun 26, 2011I feel bad for curse, since threads like these aren't just happening on this forum, but on most of the other ones they have and also for the fact that more threads like these are going to come up on most of the other forums.Posted in: Forum Discussion & Info
Now I haven't been here as long as some people, I joined in Febuary of this year (As Nath99, I'm using a separate account)
Now, I don't know anything about Server Handling, or Server Maintenance, or Server malfunctions, but think about it this way.
In the past, Minecraft and it's forums weren't so popular, so they did not attract as much of a revenue compared to today
Today, Minecraft and it's forums are very popular, meaning they attract much more of a revenue.
In the past, the revenue for the Forums and the Wiki were taken out of the pockets of Volunteers such as critic squid, it might not have been as much as today, but it still was a lot, and they all had to pitch in money from their pockets. I don't know the volunteers very well, but I'm sure that they have to pay for housing and food two, and eventually their pockets might run thin.
Now curse came along, and relieved them of the debt, added small little adds on the top and bottom of the page (which aren't very distracting) and gives the server a little more of a boost
Again, I don't know much about Server/Forum Handling, but I do know a lot about the rule of life "**** Happens", do you think **** doesn't just Crash, we are lucky, apparently in the past, there where a lot more errors like this
All in All
Stop your Whining, or would you like to pay to sign up, maybe even a subscription fee or have a lot more adds for this forum, since I'm pretty sure there won't be a lot or enough generous donators to keep up this forum, unlike wikipedia is able to do. And if you would like this forum to Quit Curse, where do we go for this forum to be hosted?
