I LOVE the look of this texture pack but I cannot get it to work for the life of me, I downloaded it, did the MCPatcher but it still doesn't work. I also didn't understand the message "copy the text in the box bellow and paste it into your sig to support this pack". Perhaps this is the reason I can't view anything? Please help.

In MCPatcher, use the "Convert pack" option at the top in the red. It will rebuild the pack and make it useable. I had the same issue.

The texture pack format has changed for 1.5. Use the "Convert Texture Pack" button on MCPatcher to update your packs to the new format.

    EDIT: Ninja'd.

    I'll try that, thanks!

The problem is you're using a pre-1.5 texture pack. In 1.5, texture packs only work if the terrain.png and items.png have been separated into individual image files for every block and item. You should see if the makers of your texture packs have created a 1.5 version of their pack yet, and if not, you can use Dinnerbone's unstitching tool to separate the terrain.png and items.png yourself.

Thanks for the detailed response. =)Converting the pack w/ MCPatcher worked. I checked the topic where I got the pack I actually wanted to use but it was the latest version, this will work for now, thanks everyone.

Having an issue with every texture pack I've tried. I apply the pack, and only a select few blocks change and the UI. When I check the terrain.png for the packs I use, the textures look like they are supposed to.

I have used the latest MCPatcher, and I use no mods. 99% Vanilla, all I use is a texture pack, or rather, I would if it worked lol.

The client is the game (minecraft.exe)

Only other thing I could think of is uninstalling and reinstalling Java. I think your problem is there, or at the very least on your computer (maybe your firewall).

On the computer you want to try as a server, since you aren't sure about the system specs you could post your MSINFO, or just type off your processor and memory (RAM). If it's not 64-bit Windows XP (not common), there won't be any more than 4GB of memory in it.

[Windows key] + [R] will give you the run prompt, then type msinfo32 into the box and hit enter. Honestly since we only really care about your processor and total memory anyway, you will only need the front page of that box.

Right, but the port is already being used, which means at the very least another program is using it, even if it's not Minecraft. Either restart the computer if you don't know what is using it, or assign a different port for Minecraft to listen on. If you know how to get to a terminal in a Mac, I believe typing in netstat -a will tell you if something is in fact already listening. It should still be the same for Mac at any rate.

Could try restarting your computer. That and make sure Java is up to date.

Set each server to a different port, and make sure anyone connecting from outside your network is using your external IP. http://www.ipchicken.com will tell you what that is.

You could alternatively turn off every server but the one your friend is trying to connect to, and see if they are able to.

Most routers are smart enough not to do this. The chances of this happening are incredibly unlikely, and the router would have to be a terrible router in order for this to happen. Most guides exclude this step due to it's low frequency, however you have correctly identified a problem that might occur!

    Thanks for the post!

It's good practice, and yes it is unlikely, but it does happen, and will likely upset someone when it does.

Yep, the genericReason message will come up when you get the Timeout, I had the same problem with my friend but he was trying to play from his college and was being throttled. Anyway.. Unfortunately my experience with mods is very limited (I uses none =P), but so long as you can play them single player, your individual computers should be able to handle them unless there is a lot going on in the server map. Six at most doesn't sound like a lot anyway.

The increased memory booting her faster means that the server registered the connection problem faster, or so I'm gathering, and subsequently kicked her faster too.

Since you guys were able to both connect before the two new mods, I'm going to assume you set it up properly. I know I'm latching onto McAfee a bit, but see if you can disable to firewall entirely. If you need to, turn off McAfee and there are two ways to do that. Through msconfig, and through services.msc. The first is easier, a bit.

Fire up a run prompt by using the [Windows key] + [R] and type in msconfig (If you are on Vista or 7, you can just type that into the start box).

Go to the startup tab and find everything with the word McAfee in it, and uncheck it. Do the same with the services tab. If you are having trouble finding it under the services tab, check the box to hide all Microsoft services. Ideally we don't want to touch those anyway. After that, it may ask you to reboot, which you should. McAfee should now no longer start upon logging in. If she still gets the same error, I'd suggest turning her antivirus back on by reversing the steps, as we don't want her to get a virus. Basically I want to be able to rule out McAfee as a problem, or identify it since you said there were already problems with that botched reinstall.

I personally like Microsoft Security Essentials, though Kasperky is very nice as well. I am just a cheap ******* =P

If she was able to connect before, try disabling just one of the new mods and see if she can connect.
If she can, join yourself (You said she could connect on her own, but you joining causes some problems). If that lag is still there, you can try allocating more memory to the server, it might help a little. It sounds like something isn't able to keep up, either the server or the connection.

As far as her McAfee goes, this might help. I hate that antivirus with a passion. (I hate most of them to be fair though, just especially McAfee haha)

Honestly if McAfee is malfunctioning, it might be the problem.

When you do set your IP static on the machine, make sure to reserve whichever address you choose on the router administration page as well. It's not a common problem, but your router could potentially assign that address to another machine if you don't tell it not to, and that causes both devices to have no network connectivity. A lot of guides seem to leave that part out.

Just to make sure I'm following correctly, your friends connected to you with Hamachi, and cannot connect to your server?

If you are using Hamachi, make sure you give your friends the internal address for your server. On a Windows machine you can find thing by opening a command prompt (Use the Windows key [little flag button] and R to open a Run prompt, and type "cmd" without the quotes). Then type "ipconfig" again without the quotes. The number listed as "IPv4 Address" is the number you will give them.

They should be able to connect by simply typing in the server's address without the ":xyz" at the end of it. The second half is the port to use, but if you are in the same network, or since you did the port forwarding anyway, it should work.

(The port forwarding only needs to be done for the server for your network, your friends connecting don't need to do that, and I can explain why if you really want)
