posted a message on Stuff you cant stop doing in minecraft?
For me, its not something I can't stop doing so much as something I can't not do. I can't leave anything lying on the ground. I literally save every single dirt / cobble / sapling I come across. In fact, as part of my current construction project I'm leveling off a few mountains that are in my way, and if a dirt block accidentally falls off of the side, I will climb down, grab it, and climb back up.

One thing I think you should touch on is torch placement. Its something I try and keep in mind while designing the interior of my bases. Having torches haphazardly slapped onto the walls isn't as nice looking as when they are evenly spaced out around door frames / paintings / other wall decorations.

    Other than that great guide!

    Quote from marett

Or you could just dig down, place some ladders and you'll prob find a lot of lava when you dig down far enough.

You can't tell me that a ladder going to an underground cave is more awesome than this:

I'd rather have my 100 lava blocks organized into a decorative pattern in my safe, well lit base instead of much farther away in a dark, mob filled cave. Granted, it takes a bit of time to get all that lava in place, but if you only need a small amount for a quick project its nice to not have to fill your inventory with buckets and go spelunking.

posted a message on Efficient and Safe Lava Storage
I've developed a larger scale, more compact but not quite 100% safe lava storage system myself.

Each column holds 5 lava source blocks stacked vertically. Its designed to be easily expandable in either direction and hold large quantities of lava safely with a small footprint. Granted, its not 100% safe but you would need to try to fall into it. Not shown is the emergency shower around the corner. I haven't had to use said shower yet, but its nice to have on hand just in case.

This shows where each of the source blocks should be placed for maximum storage capacity. I fill it from the bottom up and remove blocks from the top down so it doesn't look like there is more lava in each unit than there really is.

A much larger scale version I have in my SSP save game. Each side of the hallway contains 50 lava source blocks, and I've filled up 2 wings for a total of 200 lava source blocks in a relatively small area.

I have my own design I use for lava storage. Its a tad bit less safe than than your design but it allows me to hold a large amount of lava in a compact design that also looks lovely. I like what you did with the waterfall, fantastic idea there good sir. I'm not at home right now, but I'll upload some pics of my lava containment unit (I call it my LCU for short :tongue.gif:) once I get home.

posted a message on your chest organzing system?
In my main house, I organize chests based on the materials inside of them. I've got one for cobblestone, one for smooth / moss stone, one for sand, one for gravel, one for wood blocks, one for dirt, one for items gathered from mobs (gunpowder, string, leather, etc), one for plant materials (cacti, sugar cane, flowers), one for ores, one for crafted materials (stairs, glass and whatnot), one for consumables (food, torches, arrows), and finally one for gear that I'm not currently using and a ton of buckets.

I've also got a warehouse I've built out away from my home where I store all of my bulk materials, like excess cobble, dirt, and wheat. I never throw anything away, and would rather just expand my warehouse to accommodate it.

posted a message on POLL: Wolves, what do you use them for?
I just left mine sitting in the entrance to my garden. They get in the way most of the time, and boy do they love to fall off of my mountain. Its safer for them (and me) to just leave them alone. Also, diamond sword > wolves.

posted a message on Interior building VS trraforming
I voted both, but I usually build along with the terrain. My first world is just so beautiful, I didn't want to ruin it by building a bunch of ugly structures everywhere. My base started off as a hole in the wall of a mountain, and I've kinda gone with that theme for a long time. Something about a mountain with giant glass windows and a few balconies jutting out just looks imposing. That being said, I do sometimes terraform, but its nothing too major. I've only really replaced a small hill next to my base with my minecart station and warehouse and filled in the dry lakebed that I spawned in.

posted a message on What do YOU hate in Minecraft?
The one thing I could say that I hate in Minecraft thus far is the lack of real furniture. My house feels so empty and lonely without it. I'd make a lot more interesting rooms other than just the necessary ones (storage room, crafting room, bedroom, etc) if I could at least decorate them decently.

posted a message on Why there should NOT be obsidian tools.
If obsidian tools are implemented, I think they should be the low quality, high durability tool. Same or slightly less durability than diamond, mining strength of stone, basically used for longevity over speed / efficiency. It would give them their own niche and give obsidian more value outside of looking pretty and making nether portals.

posted a message on Rain, Snow, Thunder and Lightning in 1.5!
I like the idea of rain putting out torches, but it should only put out ones exposed to the sky. I've already made a bunch of light posts all over my base, and adding a few half step blocks over the top of the torches should keep them dry and prevent them from going out. This is what I have in mind:
