Try the seed "Behemoth" It usually spawns you in a pretty flat area with some water in-land next to a very large lake/ocean.

Entering "OVER9000!" without the quotes of course, gives you a nice landscape of beaches and mountains with caves and plenty of :log: and :grass:

A nice little beach area if I do say so myself.

posted a message on aperson4ever (Brown and Bloom modified to Water Colour 128x)
I'm bored so downloading and giving it a try. I'll let you know what I think in a bit.

    Update:

I like the colors They seem realistic but cartoonish at the same time.

You can clearly see the tiles separately, was that the look you were going for?

The textures get some pretty bad aliasing on my screen but that is perhaps an issue with my system.

Other than that it's a good effort. I'm sure some people will like it.

posted a message on Trying to create a server.
Just a couple questions and some helpful advice.

Did you check the "enable" box after you put in the port forward information for your router?
Did you input the correct Internal IP address while setting one for your forwarded ports?

You can find your Internal IP address by doing this:

1 Click start and type "CMD" into the search bar. Hit enter.
2 Once the CMD window comes up type in "ipconfig/all" and hit enter.
3 Look for the the IP address that should look like 192.168.1.XXX (between 1 and 100 usually)

This is the IP that needs to be put in for your forwarded ports.

If that does not help and you are confident, follow the directions below.

    \\HOW TO DISABLE A LINKSYS ROUTER'S FIREWALL AND/OR OTHER SECURITY SETTINGS//
\ENABLE THESE SETTINGS WHEN NOT HOSTING IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT SECURITY./

Go into your router settings by typing 192.168.1.1 (lynksys routers only) into your browser and typing in your username and password.

By default for linksys it is Username: (just leave it blank) Password: admin
(I strongly recommend a real username and password especially when running a wireless network)

Once in your router settings find the "Security" tab on the top. Click it.
Look for a sub tab called "Firewall" and click it.

Now below it should have some settings such as:
"SPI Firewall Protection" Disable it while hosting.
"Block Anonymous Internet Requests" Disable it while hosting.
Then various filter settings. None of these would affect your ability to host.

Hopefully that should get you up and running.

posted a message on Voting on the top 10 texture packs
I dun voted Doku and Brown & Bloom. I've alternated between the two extensively. John Smith's is quite good as well but something about it just doesn't sit with me.

Say,... I'm having a weird glitch, don't know if this is supposed to happen, but... wooden stairs have become invisible o_0. I just downloaded the new version with the furnaces and the chests and stuff, patched minecraft with the MCP, and since I was using the old version and it was the same resolution, I could simply patch it over the old one without using a clean minecraft.jar, could this be my problem, and should I get a clean minecraft.jar, or is this something else, you think?

EDIT: It was something else, I placed a block on top of the stairs and the other stairs became visible, when I placed another pair, they became invisible.. not messing with wooden stairs anymore now. Just keepin' them visible.

If you were to remove the minecraft.jar file and launch the game, it would download a fresh new one for ya. Just for future reference.

    how do i download

    1. Download the terrain.png from his link.
    2. Download the HD texture patcher.
    3. Go to your .minecraft/bin folder and find minecraft.jar
    4. Make a copy of minecraft.jar and rename it to whatever you want.
    5. Open the renamed minecraft.jar with your archive software (winrar, 7-zip, etc.)
    6. Drag the downloaded terrain.png into the archive.
    7. Save & close the archive.
    8. Extract the patcher to your .minecraft folder.
    9. Launch the patcher, select the renamed minecraft.jar as the texture pack, tick the boxes and patch.
    10. Launch Minecraft and Enjoy.

The textures look great and I look forward to the finished product.
I noticed only a slight hit to FPS, and extended loading times.

    System Specs:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core @ 2.7ghz
    2GB DDR2 800mhz RAM
    nVidia GeForce 9600GSO 768mb
    Windows 7 64-bit

posted a message on Port Forwarding on a 2Wire 2701HG-B
If your router has a firewall make sure it is disabled while trying to run a server. Also if it has a "block anonymous connections" setting, disable that too. Disable windows firewall as well. But be sure to enable the firewalls again after hosting.

Also setting up a static IP never hurts. Used to have to be done manually but PortForward has developed a free program to set it up for you here.
