A few facts...
1.) After minecrafts initial hype and sandbox experience wore off, people realized the game could only ever reach its potential if enhanced by creativity/ingenuity (which the game was founded on) and thus the modding community began. I don't know of any minecraft SMP server that doesn't have a few mods on it to make it unique above the rest. Who really wants to play straight vanilla minecraft anymore - sorry to say, but it does get old. The only reason it hasn't hit a dead end yet is because Notch has been putting out and promising more content.
2.) Notch hinted a modding API system which was supposedly on the horizon for 1.8 and that never happened. What did happen however, is implementation of existing mods into the core of minecraft (pistons, new lighting engine)... Can anyone say mooch?
3.) Minecraft continually suffers from being written in Java. People who play on 32-bit systems can't even run minecraft with a far render distance because it runs out of memory... This has been a problem since the inception of minecraft and yet Notch makes no effort to port the game to C++. However... He released the portable version of minecraft ported to C++ and now he lets another business port his game to C++ for the XBOX 360... It makes you wonder if Notch really even knows what he's doing or if he's just flying by the seat of his pants from day to day...
Bottom line... This is a PC game made popular by the fans of the game (mods) and has no place being in the console world where big business (microsoft, sony) lords over every transaction... Minecraft has been a game created for the fans, by the fans... Minecraft would be Nothing without its modding community and to further ignore support for it is only going to hurt minecraft in the long run... There will be no modding or texture packs within the XBOX version, just a straight up vanilla version which can't compare in the least to modded versions of minecraft which add endless features to the game which Notch has so conveniently ignored or dare I say "stolen" as he saw fit.
We need to bring minecraft back to the fans... To our obsessive compulsive creations and fantastical imaginations...
I've spoken my peace. G'day.

I'm using a LOT more mods then you, which is why you don't have problems. I use:
Forestry
Redpower2
IndustrialCraft2
RailCraft
ThaumCraft2
BuildCraft
DoggyTalents
Laser Mod
Ropes+
EnderStorage
LogisticsPipes
ABO
MoCreatures
More Pistons
IronChests
CompactSolars
Advanced Machines
That's about it, there's a few more I can't remember, but those are the main ones.

What mods do you use? Because most mod items are displayed with flat textures when dropped on the ground, especially thaumcraft wood (not all wood). It seems it only affects items within a certain range.

It made items MUCH easier to see on the ground, heh. It's surprising how big of a difference that can make when killing monsters, mining, etc...

It's funny you say that, because I placed some seals down in version 2.1.6c and the block IDs were above 1000 lol. No crash...
@natchu96
That makes sense. I know they don't have full support for 4096 yet. On my first customization of IDs, I was also very OCD with the item IDs... I learned that item IDs DO NOT like to be changed AT ALL... Even though I had no conflicts, items were mismatched all over the place, it was horrible. It seems only blocks have real leway when it comes to IDs, though forestry seemed not to care about what item IDs I gave it, so it might also have to do with the way the programmer is handling them... Redpower2 was the worst of them, I even tried to use the auto-assign mode (after manually assigning all the IDs) and it ended up assigning itself multiple SAME IDs conflicting with its own items... It'd be nice to finally see a unified solution so that if we WANTED to, we (the users) could specify the IDs for our specific needs, even if it is just to stay organized...

Yup, I reset all the IDs and ThaumCraft wood blocks look as intended in NEI, as well as in the inventory. I have a question though... When are we going to be able to set IDs to ANYthing without any weird side affects? What's the purpose of having 4096 IDs if we can't actually utilize them all without graphic glitches or potential code fail?

You are major helpful, thank you so much. I'm about to play some Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion with a friend, but I removed modloader and audio mod but still have the same issue, so i'll change all the IDs to vanilla once we're done and get back to you.

Yes, they are assigned IDs in the 1000's. Do I need to lower it? I tried it with default textures and same problem.

Could it be that the way HD textures are handled has changed? I'm using Sphax PureBDCraft 64x textures.
Let me give you a screen shot of what it looks like.

After updating forge -> 3.3.8.152, IC2 -> 1.97, a few lesser mods and of course ThaumCraft -> 2.1.6d, I noticed the tree item graphic is now flat, even when it's on the ground. I chopped down some greatwood/silverwood and it gives me the "flat" version of the texture, not the 3D version. When I search for greatwood or silverwood or any ThaumCraft woods, it shows me the flat texture.
What happened?

I am getting the same error. Thankfully I have this file already, but since the update to railcraft, I was expecting an update to this plugin, like there was for the RedPower plugin.

Wow, that looks amazing. I can't wait until you're finished. I just got into the whole mod scene recently with IC2, BC3, and RP2. I am currently using BDCraft with the texture patches. Misa was my first choice, but of course there was no support for mods originally...
Please keep up the good work.

I second that...
