Have been using these guys for about 6 months now. Amazing quality, my server never lags, and I'm running a decent sized mod pack!! If I am experiencing any lag, it's because I play on a bad laptop, but my friends who have nicer computers have no issues at all!! Would highly recommend Advantage Servers. Support is also epic. You give them an issue and they WILL fix it.
Thanks for the great service! I'm looking forward to another amazing year.

TommyJoJo posted a message on Minecraft Hosting Employment - A GuideHello all,Posted in: Hosting Discussion
I think the time has come for a thread like this. The quantity of people making threads in this section titled "Looking for a job with a host" or "Hire me for your host" has shot up recently and the general replies have been the same. So I have decided to come up with a short thread for all people looking to enter employment in this industry.
#1 Skills
Hosts in this industry give the service of providing and maintaining minecraft servers, it would therefore make sense for you to have some understanding of how minecraft servers work. Below is a list of day to day procedures operated within a host which an employee would be expected to fulfill.
- Some form of live chat: This is a simple program/software/service used by the host to easily talk to clients and potential clients, usually located at the bottom right of the website with a rectangular box. Live chats are used for support and sales inquiries. This means you will need very good English, knowledge in how to talk and to achieve sales, and knowledge in providing server support (Explained below).
- Server support for their clients: Many people who buy minecraft servers are unsure in how to run and maintain them, and so many hosts provide a support service to clients. You will need knowledge of working with FTP file access, Multicraft control panel (Most common), and editing server files. If you have owned your own server before and have mingled with the control panel and other files, you are probably qualified for this.
- WHMCS billing centre: Not all, but most hosts use WHMCS for billing their clients and providing ticket support. WHMCS is a neat program for coupon codes, tickets, cancelling/creating servers, and more. If you expect to be hired by any decent host you must have at least a basic knowledge of WHMCS. There's plenty of tutorials available online and on youtube.
Most often you will use WHMCS for answering client tickets. These are simple forms clients submit with queries like "I can't download a plugin". Simply download the plugin onto their server and reply with a friendly "We've installed the plugin on your server, have a great day!". Simple stuff.
Q:"What is the difference between tickets and the live chat?
A: Live chats take place in real time, replies between you and the user will take place every few seconds. Ticket systems are operated on a longer timeframe. A client submits a ticket, and maybe 15mins later one of the staff members see it and provide an answer.
TL;DR of Skills Section:
- Have perfect English (Or whatever language the host primarily uses)
- Have knowledge of managing minecraft servers
- Know WHMCS (Other platforms are used but WHMCS is most common)
- Maturity, maturity, maturity.
#2 Finding an employerFirst off, posting the types of threads mentioned in the beginning paragraph is pointless and no host will see it. Employers will not come to you, you need to go to to them. Many hosts are hiring as of now, a simple "Minecraft hosting job" search on google will provide many results. Another method for people who haven't worked at a host before is to contact hosts in the "other hosts" section in search of a job. Here's a list of hosts you may want to look at:https://mcprohosting.com/about/positions
https://nodecraft.com/about/jobs (not currently hiring but may want to keep an eye out)
http://apexminecrafthosting.com/jobs/
https://www.bisecthosting.com/jobs.php (currently not hiring but want to keep an eye out)
https://cubedhost.com/info#jobshttp://wobhosting.com/staff.html#jobOpps
http://www.creeperhost.net/contact.php (submit a ticket with them and they will get back to you shortly about the available job openings)
(Stole those links off a post made by aackert, credit to him for that)
#3 Producing a CV/Resume
Once you have found a host that is hiring whom you would like to work with, you will need to compile a CV/Resume. For a job "in real life" a lot of work is needed to complete your CV/Resume, however for jobs within this industry you won't need to go that far. Your CV/Resume should be in a .txt file that you can either send to hosts directly or copy/paste it into an email. It should contain:
- Position you're applying for, why you think you'd be suitable for this job, why they should pick you over other applicants (Only a paragraph).
- Name (first) and age
- Some information on yourself, based around your encounters within the game minecraft. Try not to go into detail about your life, where you live, as this is an online job you're applying for.
- Your skills. For the best chances just list every achievement you've had within minecraft and the community (Not to be confused with in-game achievements), your skills, and where you obtained these skills. Make reference to how you'd be able to cope with daily tasks noted in "#1 Skills".
- Mention briefly on how much you are expecting to be paid and what you expect to do. (For people who have not previously worked at a host, I advise you ask not to be paid and do work experience) The more hosts you have worked at, the bigger your CV/Resume will be, meaning you can apply to work at a larger host for better pay.
- Finishing paragraph. Show them your character, maybe crack a joke, let them know you're a good person dedicated to good work.
Use proper grammar and be mature. Plan your CV before typing it.
To Conclude (TL;DR of this thread)
To enter this industry as an employee you need to be a mature, experienced and sensible person. Know what you're doing, take it seriously, and you should have no problems in getting a job. And please, please, do not post threads on minecraftforum in search of a job at a host.
(This thread does not guarantee that you will get a job by using these methods, it is simply my advice. I have worked in this industry for quite some time and know it's logistics, and therefore felt I am qualified to make this thread. If you are in any way uncertain feel free to private message me here on the forums.) - To post a comment, please login.
