There should be random (and very rare, rarer than diamond) meteorite impacts in vanilla minecraft.

The Meteorite could make a big crater around it. The meteorite block can only be mined with diamond. Once you mine the meteorite block, you can smelt it to get a meteorite crystal. These crystals can then be made into armor and tools and are harder than diamond. The meteorite also has a good chance of dropping star dust when broken, which can be used to make potions. The star dust alone can be made into a defense potion, but when added to other potions, it gives them a big buff. For example, when stardust is brewed with a speed II potion, the potion becomes speed IV.
Another type of meteorite is the comet. Very rarely will a comet crash into the ground, but it can be seen occasionally in the sky at night. When a comet is broken, it drops 4 to 5 tekites, which can be ground up into a dust that can be used like bluestone or greenstone wire. This "tekite wire" can send currents up to 50 blocks, as opposed to redstone's 15 blocks.
If you set your render distance to normal or far, you can sometimes see a comet or a meteor shower. Meteor showers occur every 50 minecraft days. This means a heightened amount of impacts, most of which are mini alien spaceships. Once you get the trust of these aliens, you can trade with them. They only accept very rare items as currency. These aliens are unique in the fact that they give you items not found on minecraftia, like spawn eggs, alien trees, (which look like giant corals), venus flytrap seeds that can be tamed and used as an effective mob trap (the flytraps have a cooldown time to prevent abuse), and lasers that can either be crafted into weapons or used in redstone.

Maybe an abandoned city would do. And maybe one of the hostile mobs in the city would be giant rats.

    Quote from jtduck

If you make string into wool, it should stay wool. Take sandstone for example. How would you turn a stone like material back into sand without destroying it?
You rub it against something. Have you ever felt sandstone? You can break it with your hand IRL.

What about killer bees for a hostile mob? They could live in hives high on a tree and if you destroy the hive, they attack you. Kinda like an aerial silverfish.

There should be opposite dimensions to the nether and the end, like an aether and a beginning (maybe a space dimension?)

And there should be redstone blocks for storage, meteorite ore that spawns randomly and rarely out of the sky, is harder than diamond, and can be made into tools and armor. Also, mutton drops for sheep.
