Blow up/dig out some mountains, pave some lava lakes or build platforms.
Learn how your Nether topography correlates with your normal world and fix the spots that are interfering with your desired portal locations. It takes time but it is well worth it.
when you are in the Nether you should be able to know where you are in relation to your normal world and fix any problem that exists pretty fast.
I've fixed 8 portals now.
Yeah I could do this easily if the stupid thing would create portals 1 for 1 in the nether as in the real world, but when it just goes to any old portal I can't even begin to figure it out.
The whole thing is stupid, it should just build a portal in the exact place, and if it's in lava then deal with it you died.
Once you fix a few portals it will click, you will understand the problem and be able to fix it 100% of the time.
It is entirely predictable and controllable.
A few key things to remember.
1. When entering or exiting the Nether you maintain your direction. Use a portal facing North you arrive in the other portal facing North.
2. 8 blocks on Earth is only 1 block in the Nether.
3. Every portal can be fixed, some portals are easier than others...

@Unworthy:
But with this you basically can store the stuff from all hhis house/places/whatever's in one place.
And the texture pack is one of the many variations of Doku's that came up since the Halloween Update.
Exactly.
since all my bases have portals inside and those portals are within 1 minute of the storage i basically have an infinite sized storage room that i can use no matter where i am on the map.
Now when i go and explore if i find a good spot to build i can just drop a portal, link it by Nether rail to my storage and just focus on building instead of hauling materials for 3 hours...
I've decided to consolidate all my stuff into 1 spot for my various projects.
I dug out a central room between all my portals inside the Nether and created a storage room. Notice the rail that is connected to all my major portals.
I think this is the best use for the Nether so far along with fast travel.
This is a game based around mining yet the resources aren't even remotely accurate.
Minecraft Geology is non-existent.
If this same degree of inaccuracy was in the biology, for example if sheep legs were to grow out of a pigs back we would all call shenanigans,. We all know that sheep legs grow on sheep, not pigs...
Natural resources follow rules, just like biology. you wouldn't put the roots coming out of the top of a tree and the leaves digging into the ground so why is it alright to put resources randomly dispersed throughout the ground?
This should be mandatory before this game is finished.
Adding a "Give all" button to put everything in your inventory (except bar of items you use yourself) in the container would make it complete. I hope someone can and wants to create this, it would be awesome.

This is how pig men were created in the first place!!!
Haven't you seen The Fly?!
You can not simply put a man and an animal into a teleporter at the same time and expect everything to be cool.

The top corners need to be redone/deleted to make it look curved but i thought it was good enough to post and get some feedback.
Edit: updated the Metroid, added a firing animation and fixed the strange looking corners.
