posted a message on Resource Pack Shader Support [Parallax (POM), Bump Mapping and PBR] [S&K/R3D Craft]

CGO HD Texture Pack (not updated) :

    INSTRUCTIONS :

    1. Download and install Optifine, then turn OFF Connected Textures and Alternate Blocks.

    2. Download and install a supported shaderpack :

    Recommanded :

    - Continuum Shader or Ebin (PBR only supported by Continuum PBR).

    - SEUS

Other great shaderpacks (reflections not available with some of them) :

    - TME Shaders

    - Triliton's shaders

    - BSL Shaders

    - Sildur's shaders

    - Sushi Shader

    3. Download the original resource pack and then both POM and PBR version (same texture size, to have all the effects). See 5. and 6. if you don't see the POM effect ! The add-ons work even if it is written "not compatible" in Minecraft.

    4. Install them in Minecraft in this order :

    5. If the depth of the POM is low, you can try to change the depth of the POM (only with some shaderpacks). In Minecraft go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders (select your shaderpack) > Shader Options then search for POM or parallax and see if you can change the depth.

    6. Do not forget to change your resources pack resolution in the shader settings and turn ON POM or parallax to get depth in blocks.

This work is free, but donations are welcome, feel free to donate if you want to support my work and help me continue this project.

Best. Birthday. Gift. So far. (Today as of this post is my birthday)

    Vibrant... <3

Vibrant shaders used with Extreme preset, plus POM, Volumetric Lighting. Red Craft (+ the Default Realism and Shader Support addons) used.

I am glad to see that you enjoy my shader support ;)

Can't give an ETA, busy with real life. But I can tell you what I'm working on - what's coming:

    • Fix current bugs and improve support.
    • Improve bloom
    • specular mapping
    • volumetric lighting

Great to see that specular mapping is coming for your shaderpack ;)

    is this normal?

This is normal, it is how POM works.

How to learn about something: Step 1: Already know that thing. :P

I joke, but I appreciate the link. I'm not a programmer but can usually figure out how to do simple things if the explanation is well-written. As i said, I figured out how to do it for the vanilla system because some nice programmer was good enough to translate a few things into artist. Hopefully what you've posted will be close enough for my very simple purposes. :D

No problem, good luck with what you are doing ;)

Does anyone know of a good newb-friendly tutorial for writing Optifine shaders? I managed to write some simple color shaders for vanilla Minecraft back when that was a thing. It took me an hour to figure that out because I had a good tutorial, but trying to translate it over to Optifine has proven to be an exercise in futility. (After four hours I managed to turn the screen completely black. Progress!) Ergo, I'm hoping someone has a good tutorial to explain this stuff to me so that I can understand what I'm looking at and hopefully actually make something useful!

There are the basics here, but you will need knowledge in OpenGL and CG in general if you want to write one. Also go on the Optifine GitHub to have informations about Optifine and shaders.

HERE follows the same exact issue you are having but posted by another person to which sp614x answered and now confirms what I was about to reply to you.

The info below was taken out from your spoiler:
    [OptiFine] Maximum texture size: 16384x16384
    [14:26:15] [Client thread/INFO]: Created: 32768x8192 textures-atlas
Here lies your issue, your game is making a texture-atlas way bigger than the maximum texture size "allowed" by Optifine. This is why you're having "missing" textures. When the game can't load textures, the game discards them and turns them white to try to give room to other textures to get loaded.

I hope someone else with better knowledge than me can help you. If I was in your place I would just simply play with a 256x pack IF you really NEED that much detail in your game.

If not, simply give your computer a break and use 64x or 128x resource packs as this will decrease how big the texture-atlas is.

    Best regards,

Thank you very much for your answer ! I don't really need to play in 512x but without this I can not test the look of the shader support I have made for the 512x R3D and my test shaderpack (Continuum PBR) changes the depth of the POM with the resolution of the pack. So I do know how the POM looks like with the 512x R3D (it seems that the depth is too high).

    Regards.
